Welcome to What The Heck season 3! This podcast explores unexplained phenomena using stories gathered from various sources, then applies an academic research method to find theories and solutions for each one. So far, we've been unsuccessful in finding any concrete answers, but a few of the stories we've covered has been solved. This week, we're looking at the murder of Candace Hiltz. In August, 2006, Dolores Hiltz returned home from running errands to find her granddaughter upset and alone. Shortly afterwards, the body of Candace was discovered. After a short investigation, the case went cold for 11 years. A man had bought a storage unit, discovering lost evidence and exposing a member of Fremont County Sheriff's Department. What happened to Candace Hiltz? Why did the case go cold? What was inside the storage unit? Listen in to hear all the theories!

This week we're looking at The St Augustine Monster. In 1896, 2 boys discovered the remains of an unidentified creature on a beach near St Augustine, Florida. Initially, scientists believed the creature to be a giant octopus. However, upon receipt of a sample, the professor who was supposed to look into the creature changed his mind. Over the years, several different types of scientists have weighed in on this. What did the boys discover? What other things did people think it was? What did DNA tests say? Listen in to find out!

The SS Ourang Medan exploded in the 1940s near Indonesia. Despite efforts to rescue the ship and its crew, the Silver Star, a US ship, was unsuccessful. Allegedly, a single crew member made it out of the ship alive, perishing days after recounting the events that led to the explosion. There's a problem with this though- the ship doesn't exist on paper. What happened to the Ourang Medan? Who was the survivor and what did he see? Where are all the documents for the ship? Over time, their stories, descriptions, and powers have evolved. Today, we take a walk through history to see some of the most prominent stories of dragons, including the story of a Norse hero, a saint, and a humble cleric. DMT is a hallucinogenic drug that can alter perceptions of reality. Some people report seeing creatures and a completely different world whilst on the drug. One man has begun a journey to document his journey through the realm, and others have been training to do the same. Even reports of the creatures are similar, even if the people reporting them are completely unrelated. What is DMT? As it turns out, another, very similar creature was seen in the early days of Detroit in 1701. Both men associated with the Little Red Man were given warnings to be careful, and neither man followed the warnings. This led to some misfortune on their part. Who is the Little Red Man of Destiny? In 1885, the Great Farini decided to go on an expedition to the Kalahari Desert. THe, and his group of explorers, discovered the ruins of a city in the middle of the arid land. Over 30 other expeditions have tried to find the ruins and come up empty. AJ Clement eventually traced what he believed to be Farini's route, but found something totally different. What did the initial expedition find? What did Clement find? How would a city flourish in an arid desert?? Listen in to hear all the theories!

This week we're looking at the Minotaur. Greek Mythology tells us of Asterion, the half man, half bull hybrid. We know him best as the minotaur. Because he was so violent, he was locked away under the city of Knossos. Eventually, Theseus chose to become a sacrifice and entered the labyrinth the minotaur was in. What is the minotaur?
