Episode 386: Family In Front, Bomb In the Back

This week Host Dave Bledsoe sustains painful burns in a sensitive area while attempting to light his farts as part of his “research” for this episode. (Again) On the show this week, we tell you the True Story of The Little Carefree Car, which turned out to need a LOT of care indeed, the Ford Pinto! (Big Badda Boom)

Along the way, Dave tells the same damn story he always tells when cars come up about his dream car that turned out to be a real POS. (Much like every poor woman who dated Dave naively thinking he was their dream guy) Then we dive right into the story how Ford created a little car that could go boom because of the Nazis. (Technically, they were just West Germans by then) From there we dig into the details behind the design flaws that made the Pinto so flammable and the lawsuit that demonstrated how little the Ford Motor Company valued a human life. (Less than eleven dollars) Then we cover the debunking that wasn’t exactly a debunking, but more like lawyer-splaing.

Show Notes Episode 385: They Were Dueling Dalton at the Double Deuce

This week Host Dave Bledsoe decided to apply for work as a Cooler in a small midtown bar hoping he can drink for free, only to discover the bartender is much tougher than he is and she kicks his ass right out. (Again) On the show this week we talk about one of the greatest movies of the 1980’s, it has everything, fighting, boobies, booze, boobies, monster trucks, boobies and a dude’s throat being ripped out: Road House!

Along the way we learn about the time Dave was savagely beaten by a tiny Korean woman. (He deserved it) Then we jump right into the history of the noble profession of bouncing from its beginnings as temple guards to the modern incarnation of large men who tell you that you are too ugly get into the club. Then we deep dive on Road House, a movie that most critics thought was so terrible it might actually be good! (Unlike this show which is just bad.)

Show Notes Episode 384: The Devil and Caleb Black

Part 5 of Spooktacular 20222

This week Host Dave Bledsoe actually did some damn work and wrote original audio fiction for the finale of the Spooktacular. (It was because he was afraid the Satanists were gonna cast a hex on his Jameson bottle!) On the show this week tell you the story of a bad man and his deal with the Devil. (Not Dave, and the devil isn’t real)

Along the way we meet Dave’s Papaw, who is the guy on the right in the show pic. He tells him a tale of an Appalachian bootlegger and his encounter with an old man in the mountains who makes him an offer he can’t refuse. 

The Devil and Caleb Black is an original audio drama written, performed and sound designed by Dave Bledsoe. (Is it a thinly veiled rip off of Old Gods of Appalachian? Yes, it really is!) It concludes Spooktacular 2022, with one last story about the Devil. Hopefully the Church of Satan will not get their black silk crotchless panties in a twist over this one since we admit right here at the start, that we made the whole thing up. (So lighted up! We thought you guys had a sense of humor and shit!)

This week Host Dave Bledsoe demands his bar tab be wiped out as a religious observance to his new Church of Dave! (The bartender was an atheist and told him to go to hell) On the show this week we introduce you to the man who made Satanism modern and cool, Howard Stanton Levey! (He preferred Dr. Anton Szandor LeVey)

Along the way we learn about the first time Dave was called a devil worshiper and how much he was and is afraid of girls! (What a nerd!) Then we dive right into the exotic story of a boy, the circus and the Devil! (You can take the carnie out of the circus, but not the man!) We follow Anton LeVey from his humble origins of lying about his origins to his rise as a minor celebrity on the San Francisco OddBall circuit to his eventual formation of the Church of Satan. (Not really a church and didn’t even believe in Satan!) We take a look at Anton's philosophy and discover most of it is actually someone else’s philosophy with some spooky words and black cloaks. We chart the rise of the Church of Satan and the eventual decline of Anton LeVey when he discovered that most Satanists were just there for the black eye make up, the sex and the discounts at Denny’s (10% off all breakfast items at participating Denny’s in Northern California with proof of membership in the Church of Satan)

Part 3 of Spooktacular 2022

This week Host Dave Bledsoe has the strangest feeling he is not alone in his bed, only to wake up and realized he isn’t in his bed but has passed out on the bar (Again) On the show this week Spooktacular 2022 continues with Richard Ramirez, the Night Stalker and how he said he loved Satan. (Satan never thought much of Richie)

Along the way we learn how military unit nicknames could be somewhere better thought out. (A lot of “bastards” out there) Then we dive right into the story of Ricardo Leyva Muñoz Ramirez. (Though his friends and family just called him Richie, the little thieving asshole.) We take a short tour about what made Richie so very Richie (Dysfunction, drugs and war) and how that created one of the most sadistic serial killers in American history. (Which is saying something when you look at the competition.) Because this is NOT a true crime podcast, we do NOT go into the gory details because even for us, they are a bit much. Instead we talk about Richie’s relationship with the Dark Lord Satan and how it was a bit one sided. (The Devil repeatedly claimed “not to even know the guy!”) Then we wrap up by explaining that Richie was no more a Satanist than the Pope. (Who, well, you know!)

This week Host Dave Bledsoe digs out his Iron Maiden t-shirt, straps on his leather and spikes and tries to relive his headbanging youth, only to grievously injure his neck and need an appointment with his chiropractor. (He is OLD!) On the show this week we head back to the Glory Days of Heavy Metal when Satan reigned supreme and everyone was worried the kids were practicing the Dark Arts. (This was before Satan got into producing Boy Bands)

Along the way we learn that Dave’s indoctrination involved a deal with the Devil (Because apparently the Devil needed a Dungeon Master’s Guide) Then we dive right into the history of Heavy Metal from its humble origins as acid influenced guitar shredding and the short, quick march into the occult realms of(checks our research notes) JRR Tolkien. We tell you about why Black Sabbath used some many “diabolical” themes in their music (Hint: because it was COOL AS HELL!) and Alisteir Crowley became the go to guy for every Heavy Metal songwriter. (Drugs, it was the drugs.) Then we explain why people thought Heavy Metal musicians and their record labels thought the bands were telling their fans to kill themselves. (We guess all the money, drugs and sex was really getting them down.) Finally we explain why young people like to listen to loud angry music for all you parents out there. (Hint: Because they’re teenagers)
