  • Spooktacular 2022 Bonus: The Candy Man Can

Happy Halloween Podfriends, it is time for a Patreon Exclusive for Spooktacular 2021. We begin with Father of the Year 1974 Ronald O’Bryan, the man who murdered his child for money by poisoning his Halloween Candy! This asshole is the reason your parents got the first shot of all the good candy before you could even touch it!

Big thank you to all our Patrons who keep this show liquored up and coming at you all year round. If you like what you hear, and we’ve got more cool stuff coming, tell a friend, tell an enemy, tell that creepy guy on the train who MIGHT be jerking off while staring at you to kick a dollar to keep the content coming! (Kind of like that creepy guy on the train!)

  • Episode 380: The Devil Goes Hollywood

Show Notes Episode 380: Stay Away From Captain Howdy, Kids!

    Part 1 of Spooktacular 2023

This week Host Dave Bledsoe takes a bad tumble down the Exorcist Steps and has to go Dixie Liquors for his “medicine”. (This will only make sense if you live near Georgetown University) On the show this week we kick off the Spooktacular with the true tale of the scariest movie of all time and how it might have started the Satanic Panic! (No, not Mazes and Monsters! The Exorcist!)

Along the way we discover the REAL reason Dave had to drop out of Georgetown. (He used all his student loan money for booze!) Then we dive right into the story of how The Exorcist went from nationwide best selling novel to a blockbuster movie that had people puking in the aisles like a possessed little girl! (Most of which never really happened) From the cursed film set (cursed by an asshole director that is) to its impact on how people in America believed in religion! The true story of The Exorcist is more about the devil inside the marketing department than some red dude with horns and a pitchfork. (Sorry, Satan!)

Our Sponsor this week is The Infernal Names, when you don’t have to time invoke them all, just use Infernal Names. We open with news footage from 1974 and close with LeFay warning kids to stay away from a creepy military officer.

  • Episode 307: HIS NAME IS BUM FARTO Redux

Show Notes Episode 307: HIS NAME IS BUM FARTO!

This week Host Dave Bledsoe cut his heel on a pop top and had to cruise on back home, meaning he got bombed off his ass drinking margaritas and is listening to Jimmy Buffett. (again) On the show this week we go to Island Time as we head back to the era of the Cocaine Cowboys and learn the true tale of an American Hero: Bum Farto. (That IS his real name!)

Along the way we learn a little about what Dave thought he might do as a second career back in the 90’s, both of which were VERY bad ideas. (We are shocked he didn’t do them!) Then we head to Key West Florida for the true tales of the last pirate republic, the Conch Republic in the 1970’s when bales of weed floated up on the beach and enterprising islanders could make their fortune selling it. (Honestly, we are sure this STILL happens down there) Then we take a look at the rise of the cocaine culture in the States and how it was FUN to be a smuggler before Reagan came along and ruined it. (Like he did EVERYTHING!) From there we learn about how the rest of Florida harshed Key West’s buzz and ruined a good deal for everyone, especially Bum Farto. (Who again is NOT a name Dave just made up to tell fart jokes.) Finally we explore the mystery of who Bum Farto was and try to answer the question “Where IS Bum Farto!” (Don’t expect a satisfactory answer.)

Our Sponsor this week is Jimmy Earl’s Bait Shack who wants you to know just because a place LOOKS like a drug front doesn’t mean it necessarily IS a drug front. We open the show with an NBC news story on Operation Conch and close with Koit who wants you to know how THEIR bum goes.

  • Episode 379: I Talk Funny Sometimes

Show Notes Episode 379: I Talk Funny Sometimes

This week Host Dave Bledsoe tries to play off not paying this week by saying he came in to pay his bartab last week and the bartender probably just forgot about it. (This…does not work) On the show this week we try to play off that this is mostly a rerun show by tossing a few clips of unheard content that wasn’t good enough to make the show when it was created. (This..will not work)

Along the way we discover that Dave does a horrible Trump impression, (Join the club) Then we dive right into some clips that someone thought (Dave) were funny enough to highlight. Going back over seven years, he managed to find just enough to make the show as long as it is. Considering the hundreds of hours of podcasts, that he struggled to find enough content to make close to thirty minutes says something. (But not something good)

Our Sponsor this week is “Have I Heard This Before” because if you haven’t heard it, it is new to you! We open with our man Rerun and close with (God help us) Dave singing.

  • Episode 378: Watch It Jiggle, See It Wiggle

Show Notes Episode 378: What It Jiggle, See It Wiggle

This week Host Dave Bledsoe offers to show a little cleavage if it can help with his bartab only to get the entire bar shut down for uncontrollable vomiting. (Again.) On the show this week we turn back to the magical time in television history when we were not afraid to admit we were there for the boobs! (And it was glorious!)

Along the way we learn that Dave’s Mom wouldn’t allow him to hang racy posters on his bedroom wall, so he had to masturbate to posters of Iron Maiden. (Not that there's anything WRONG with that!) Then we dive right into the history movies, television and sex. (Along with how they were very worried White People would be offended.) Then move right along to the halcyon days of what was called “Jiggle TV” in the greatest jiggle show of all time, Charlie’s Angels! (Poor Bosley, they did him dirty!) Then we tell you about all the OTHER jiggle shows where the plot (such as it was) was secondary to the beautiful women barely dressed on the show. (Wonder Woman was WONDERFUL!)

Our Sponsor this week is the American Broadcasting Corporation, who want you to know that they know you know, so look at these boobs! We open with Bill Hicks and his new TV show and close with Robert Lund and his extensive vocabulary!

  • Episode 377: New Coke! Catch the Pepsi!

Episode 377: New Coke: Catch the Pepsi

This week Host Dave Bledsoe gets very, very angry about this new orange flavored Jameson and angrily demands the bar toss it out immediately, only to be the one who gets tossed out. (Again) On the show this week we tell you what REALLY happened when Coca Cola changed its formula back in the 80’s (Spoiler Alert: It didn’t go well)

Along the way we learn why Dave drank Diet Coke as a teen (He was a wee fat baby!) Then we dive right into the history of Coca Cola from its beginnings as a booze and cocaine fueled “cure” for morphine addiction up through it being placed on the American flag. (Trust us, they wanted to do it!) Then we discover why Coke changed (people liked Pepsi) and that most people LIKED the new formula. Sadly, SOME people didn’t and they were very LOUD about it. (You know the kind of people we are talking about!)

Our Sponsor this week is New Kombucha, all the great taste of infected feet, but MORE of it! We open the show with the news of Coke’s change and close with Band Geeks reflecting on the transitory nature of time.

Show Notes Episode 376: M-M-Max Headroom

This week Host Dave Bledsoe passes out, falls off his barstool and has his consciousness uploaded into digital representation of himself, only to be promptly turned off, deleted and wake up back in his regular old body in an alley. (Again) On the show this week we are talking about the faux CGI charmer that wowed the world for about eleven minutes, Max Headroom.

Along the way we discover why everything is so bright and neon in the 80's. (It looked futuristic to them) and then we dive right into how the BBC created a fast talking rubber faced facsimile of a man to host a video show. (Don’t think about it too long, it doesn’t make sense.) Then we follow along as Max journeys to America where network television doesn’t get that they are the but of all the jokes on the show. (Until they do get it and promptly cancel the show) Then we explain how Max Headroom became a commercial dreamboat despite being rabidly anti-commercialism. (How? Money, of course.)

Our Sponsor this week is Robo-Host an AI Podcast host without all the drama of a human being. We open the show with Max being interviewed and close with Max singing to himself.

Show Notes Episode 375: A Tandy Company

This week Host Dave Bledsoe throws a tantrum when he cannot find a single ¼ inch to RCA audio patch cable anywhere in Best Buy and has to have several drinks in a nearby dive bar to calm his nerves. (Always some excuse with this guy.) On the show this week we tell the tale of the early tech giant you probably bought your first cell phone from in the early 2000’s. (It is Nokia ringtone time!)

Along the way we learn that Dave never really fit anywhere as a kid. (Nothing ever changes with this guy) Then we dive right into the history of Radio Shack from their origins as a Boston radio retailer to the rise of the Tandy Company who bought them with money made from assless leather chaps. (To be honest, ALL chaps are assless.) Then we tell you about how Tandy Computers beat out some little fruit based startup in California to become the dominant computer in American homes. (For a little while)

Our Sponsor this week is Bert’s Battery Barn, if it holds a charge we have it! We open with a Tandy Commercial from their halcyon days and close with Popgun spotting a faded Radio Shack sign on the side of the road.
