  • Life After Nannying: Nanny Louenna

This is episode 1 of the What The Nanny Heard mini series: What The Nanny Heard Next.

The next 6 weeks' episodes will demonstrate how Nannies have transferable skills. How they can divert, career wise, from Nannying into something else both fulfilling and successful.

In this 1st episode Charlotte, Charlie & Millie interview Louenna Hood about her path from big sister to Nanny then beyond!

Louenna discusses what she loved about Nannying whilst giving a brief run through of her career & how her lovely daughter Alice changed her perspective on Nannying.

Louenna looks back on how her Instagram was born, grew and subsequently developed into an app all very organically. She discusses her transferable skills and details her key points on how to be successful.

Louenna opens up about her hopes for the future & offers her key advice to Nannies thinking about changing their career.

Louenna joins in with my Quick Fire Questions!

  • How to Avoid Gender Stereotypes

Charlotte, Charlie and Millie discuss gender stereotypes such as subliminal messages that are sent to us via the clothes children wear,

The ladies discuss hints and tips on how to try and make a home more inclusive.

What language we, as professionals, catch ourselves saying and why we should not use certain phrases. Even reading books and the questions we ask children can have an unconscious bias. These topics all need to be recognised and discussed, Charlotte, Charlie and Millie acknowledge they only just scratch the surface of this topic. Much more work remains to be done by them and other professionals.

    Listener Question:

    Hi What The Nanny Heard,

I listened to your episode the other week about potty training.

The 2 and ½ year old I am looking after is doing really well with wees but will not poo in the potty or the toilet. He will hold it until he has a nappy on at nap time or bedtime then shout for me to change him, then go to sleep. What should I do?

  • Safeguarding: Interview with Child Protection Social Worker Heidi

Charlotte, Charlie and Millie interview the incredible Heidi.

Heidi is a Child Protection Social Worker for the council.

Heidi discusses her interpretation of safeguarding as well as her belief that multi-partner agencies should be fully empowered to make the correct decisions.

Heidi talks about the different levels of safeguarding and how Nannies can deem what is serious enough for her to be contacted. Some cases do not need to be escalated to her, the family could be supported by another agency - a school or nursery for instance.

Heidi offers advice to Nannies who may come across safeguarding issues, how to handle them and who to speak too.

Heidi and the ladies debate whether safeguarding training should be mandatory for all Nannies.

If you, or anyone you know, has any safeguarding issues please do not hesitate to contact us for help and support. We can point you in the right direction.

The ladies discuss what is viable and sustainable once the Nanny brings their baby to work. As well as the key things to discuss and negotiate plus the pros and cons.
