    Title: Nothing but Trouble
    Subtitle: A Kevin Kerney Novel
    Author: Michael McGarrity
    Narrator: George Guidall
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 10 hrs and 14 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 08-30-06
    Publisher: Recorded Books
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 144 votes
    Genres: Fiction, Contemporary
    Publisher's Summary:
Kerney agrees and plans a working vacation on location in a remote area of the state known as the Bootheel with his wife, Lt. Colonel Sara Brannon, and their three-year-old son, Patrick. But a dead man on a road near an isolated border crossing, a federal undercover investigation into immigrant smuggling, the search for a fugitive from military justice hiding somewhere in Europe, and Johnny Jordan's troublesome behavior ensure that nothing goes as planned. As separate investigations embroil Kerney and Sara in circumstances that will forever changes their lives, Kerney must care for Patrick while Sara plays a dangerous game of Pentagon politics.
Packed with family secrets, international intrigue, and memorable characters, this is McGarrity's most ambitious and involving novel to date. It travels an accelerating arc from Santa Fe and the desert grasslands and mountains of the Bootheel to the most secret levels of the Pentagon and a resort town on the coast of Ireland, then back to an adrenaline-charged climax on a desolate landing strip a few miles north of the Mexican border.

Dear God: Please let this man write another book soon and please let me be here to listen to it. I can't say something like 'even his worst book is good' because I can't think of anything he's done that is worse than anything else.
Before I post this list I have to say that Sandford, Parker and MacDonald are EXTRA special. And Richard Ferrone as John Sandford's voice is an amazing match. Like George Guidall with Craig Johnson and pretty much anything George reads.
Robert B. Parker lived in this space for me as did John D. MacDonald. Currently, Michael Connelly, Robert Crais, John Hart, Craig Johnson, John Lescroart, William Kent Krueger Ridley Pearson, Jonathan Kellerman. And adding Michael McGarrity today. Some others are really good but these guys have something special. If you are into mystery-thrillers I just gave you a back catalog I wish I could have...but I HAVE had it and it is an incredible treasure. I stopped going to libraries and swap places just so I can encourage these guys by sending them money. Please enjoy.

    Boo hoo
I'm so sorry that I paid for this listen. I would normally get this kind of fluffy Harlequin-type romance free from the public library but it's Evanovich and I expected better.
I agree that the reader does not do the story justice; in fact, she is driving me nuts. But I am also frustrated at how many times the author repeats the same appositives -- like she is writing for a readership with short term memory loss.
If this is your first outing with Evanovich, start elsewhere. This is not her best. In general, I find her stuff delightful and always a safe choice when I'm looking for light and light-hearted reading. This one just didn't click for me.
    Overbored? Read This!
Love Overboard is a quick, fun listen! Evanovich amazes me with the quality of the books she turns out. I do wish she would use a different narrator though, Critt's voice is annoying and difficult to take seriously.
    Classic
I love the way Janet Evanovich can make hard stressful moments seem so easy and light- hearted. She is very talented and writes go wholesome romance novels. This one is no different. I smiled and laughed and completely enjoyed it.
    Fun romp!
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I'd recommend this book to someone looking for a fun fluff read. If this book were a television show it'd be a good sitcom.
What does C.J. Critt bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
C.J. Critt is one of my favorite readers. She does such a great job of communicating all of the different nuances of the characters she is reading. I actually selected this book because I had just recently completed listening to another book she read.
Critt & Evanovich keep me laughing!
After reading all of the Stephanie Plum series I have to disagree with the other reviews. I have listened to the Abridged versions with celebrity readers who don't do the books justice. It was a nice read while I wait for the next Stephanie Plum book. The reader knows the author so well!

    Purple Heart
To write a book with the kind of action, conflict, dialogue and flow found in Death Wind is obviously a rare ability. You barely know that the clock is ticking as you keep reading, keep reading and keep reading until you end up with the kind of finish that makes you wish the next Force Recon book was on the shelves right now. Smith clearly knows a lot about the military, but he knows even more about how to tell a story. Great reading, great writing, great book.
    This Book was great
I really like this book. This book was better then his first book. Tons of action. I like the plot and the location. Hope his next one is great too. Can't wait to his next one comes out.
THIS JUST MADE ME THIS AUTHOR'S NEW FAN!
DEATH WIND was a great find thanks to Amazon.com once again!
After this novel, I will be gathering up all of Mr. Smith's other works in FORCE RECON series as well as his other horror-type genre novels.
Being a former marine, I was intrigued and very pleased to see this series. It was more than I bargained for and was a very pleasant surprise.
    suspence filled
This book was an exceptionaly good book. I rated it five but would go higher. As with other books I have read this one was hard for me to put down. I lost many an hour of sleep with this book. James put you right there with the patrol, from beginning to end.

    Don't be fooled.
Somehow I was expecting "Under the Tuscan Sun," and instead got a shallow, predictable, cliche-ridden romance novel, read aloud in a grating, irritating voice. I tried to stick with this novel, hoping it would lead somewhere other than down this sorry path, but I finally gave up before the end of Part One; I decided I had better ways to spend my time.
    I was fooled
I tried to get through it, put it down and downloaded the second half after several months. What a piece of junk. The reader was extremely irritating, and the plot was ridiculous. It sounded like the author read a few travel books, then churned out this weightless drivel. This is no better than a Harlequin Romance.
    Good beach read..horrible reader
The reader has a grating and irritating voice. Disappointing.
    The greatest thief
"The greatest thief is a terrible book," and this one robbed me blind. I was expecting something, anything, and all I got was a ridiculous waste of a read. Don't bother.
    Trite
Hard to believe that this is the same author who wrote Fortune is a woman, or Property of a Lady or several other meaty good reads. Please write one of those again. They are not even available in audio!

    Publisher's Summary:
Jess and Lucy's friendship has weathered the trials of marriage, the births of children, and the transition from itty-bitty bikinis to "Kindest Cut" one-piece suits. Now the women are discovering that midlife crises aren't just for men, they're equal-opportunity dilemmas.
To Jess' dismay, Lucy announces that she's taken a lover. A very famous lover. Her husband, Dan, is bound to find out, but Lucy's too wrapped up in the joys of romantic retreats to care. Jess finds herself in the midst of her own romantic predicament when her sexy French ex-husband, Jacques, ends up back in her life, and in her bed.
Funny, brazen, and often poignant, this irresistible novel offers an unexpected and entertaining look at two women's midlife adventures. Who would have thought 40 could be so much fun?
    Members Reviews:
    Slow and Scary!!!!
If you are younger than 40 you better prepare before reading this book; you might get wrinkles while you're at it.
    Slow, redundant, forgettable.
Between botox, collagen shots, crinkled toes, saggy [...] and gray hairs you will be afraid of aging, and even though aging is unavoidable, I didn't find these characters compelling or profound enough. It made me feel 10 years older once I was done with it. No deepness or solidity I would say there's more lightheartedness and simplicity within these story. It's not insightful or remarkable although something that did strike me as courageous was the way the authors have opened up about the pressure women have to stay young and desirable and how they will get saggy and wrinkled no matter how many botox shots they get. Same thing goes for men; they will sag sooner or later.
    C'est la vie!
    A fun read
Perfect for a holiday read. 40 something best friends both having midlife crisis and angst. But true love, some maturity and retail therapy saves the day. Reminds me of a cross between cybil and sex and the city.
    Tries way too hard....
My overall impression of the book is that the authors are trying WAY too hard to be funny. Literally, every other sentence is some sort of joke and it's annoying as can be! Other reviewers have commented on this and say that it takes away from the plot line. Honestly, the plot line is as weak as the authors' poor attempt at humor.
I really had to force myself to complete the book because I refused to give up on something so unintelligent that it took virtually no thinking to read.
If the book would have skipped its continual attempt of humor, I may be able to recommend it, but then, it would probably only be 10-pages. Don't get me wrong, I love books that make me laugh, and I do have a sense of humor, but this was an insult to those with a sense of humor.
I give this book two stars instead of only one, because a few of the characters are somewhat charming. Unfortunately, each one is stereotypical so this is only surface level charm.
    Not for me
It was hard to identify with the characters in this story. The plot moved along nicely, however I found myself anxious to finish the book so that I could get on to something more engaging. I would not recommend this book.
    Dull, Trite, and Disjointed
I am an avid reader and have never once submitted a book review. However, after reading Botox Diaries, I felt compelled to write and warn you all that this book is dull, trite, and disjointed.

    Critic Reviews:
"Evanovich is at her best in her 10th Stephanie Plum adventure, which reads like the screenplay for a 1930s screwball comedy: fast, funny, and furious....The rollicking plot, replete with car chases, family squabbles, massive doughnut consumption and a frantic, wacky finale, keeps the reader breathless. As usual, Evanovich's eccentric characters...are a treat." (Publishers Weekly)

    Not crazy about narrator
Stephanie sounds too old, Lula just doesn't come across believable and Ranger sounds like Ricky Ricardo!. I've read most of the Stephanie Plum series, and read out loud to my daughter & husband. Sadly this audible version didn't satisfy as hoped.
    Loved it.
Leslie King is the perfect narriator for Janet Evanovich books. She has the voices down so well. The. Characters in the Plum Series are all so perfect. The stories are funny with so much to keep you reading.

    skip this one
I like James Patterson, but this story never sparked my interest. The reader is poor, the story line worse.
The Lake House, by James Patterson
Stupid, inane, ridiculous. An embarrassing effort for an otherwise good writer. Do not order this one . . . you'll regret the wasted credit. The dialogue is beyond awful. I would have given it a negative rating if it were an option.
    The Lake House
I am not one to write reviews, but feel compelled to do so in this case. I wish that I had read the first review of this book prior to ordering. It is, in fact, a waste of a credit. I like James Patterson and can hardly believe he wrote this story. The plot is ridiculous, the characters are flat, and the events are completely predictable. I had a difficult time listening to the entire book. Do not waste your time with this one.
Don't be fooled by the poor ratings on this book.
I actually enjoyed this book. But then, I had read it as the sequel to When the Wind Blows as it was intended. In the first book you are gradually introduced to the characters and become endeered to them, especially Max. I can imagine that I would have been very disapointed with this book if I had not read When the Wind Blows first, as The Lake House does start off slowly, and lacks the upfront character development to emerse the reader from the start. I rate this book pretty well because I was already emersed and had loved the first book.
7 Hours of Your Life You'll Never Get Back
James Patterson's books are generally predictable, but still entertaining & worth listening to (or reading), but this is absolutely ghastly. I'm probably more willing than most to get into a book & "believe" what's going on (One of my favorite book series is Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series, set in present-day St Louis!) - but so much of what Patterson has happening in here is totally not "believable". Don't waste your time and money on this one.
