So much more than expected

This story was so much more than I expected. What a life Mr. Sonnenfeldt had! Very well written and narrated. It left me gob-smacked!

A Whole Life

The Nuremberg chapter of this man's life was just one of the stories told in this book. It is a very comprehensive story of one Jewish German's experiences in an almost "Forrest Gump", "I was there" scenario. Totally amazing.

Sadly, the narrator gave it a reading that was at once braggaocious and defensive as if a super big chip was on his shoulder. I don't think this is what the author had in mind, as it does not come off this way in the written book.

The endings (that go on and on), become a bit preachy, but all in all this a great story that could have been presented better. Still well worth your credit.

Story is great but the performance grated

I really enjoyed the story. Both from the point of view of the historical information and the personal story of the author. The performance however grated on me....a lot. The reader sounded like he was putting on a false posh accent. The story was really good if you can get past the performance.

Very VERY little trials

This book is about the man and not so much the trials. I was really hoping to learn about these trials. This is not the book for that.

Captivating!

Despite the accurate title, I didnt realise that this book was not just about Richard Sonnenfeldts experiences at the Nuremburg trials, but rather a complete biography of his life. If you picked up this book just to learn more about the trials, stop. Its not the book for you.

Once I realized the subject matter was more about the man, I found the book extremely interesting! I was completely captivated and even missed my subway stop on the way to work one morning I was so engrossed.

Present!

I had previously read this book as I borrowed it from the library. I then in turned purchased it for the biological mother of my adopted son. I hope it helped her in her decision as it was a beautiful, wonderfully written book full of stories and Blessings!

Very encouraging for those going through the adoption wait!

Excellent Read

As the grandparent of an adopted child, I highly recommend this book. Kingsbury relates twelve moving stories about families who have gone through the adoption process (including her own), and does so with her usual charm and depth. Some stories will make you laugh, some will bring you to tears. If you are adopted or plan to adopt, this book will move you to a deeper understanding and appreciation of the miracle of adoption.

Excellent

This is one of the most moving books written. I have a sister and brother who both adopted and the stories in this book will make you cry. Plus, I have a brother who was foster, we never adopted him, but we had him his whole life until he was killed just a few years ago. This book should be read by everyone, no matter what age. We should all open our hearts as these people have.

Best type of memoir

I alternate my listening between fiction and non-fiction. For non-fiction listening I enjoy memoirs and autobiographies and this is one of the best I have heard. I enjoyed this book because of the combination of personal stories mixed with history. You don't have to be Jewish to enjoy this book although I do think there will some extra resonance for Jewish listeners in this book.

A Clear Pane in a Broken Window

I selected this title because I wanted to better understand the life of the refugee, the Syrian, the Latino, etc.of today. But through this story, Berger tenderly conveys and Guidall masterfully relates something unique to the Jew, a people for whom my heart freshly breaks. I am in awe of Berger's family tribe as it blooms from its holocaust-tortured seeds. Through his keen observations, capable journalistic skill, and obvious familial love, I was able to become for a bit a member of this family. He made it personal.

Gripping

A must listen book. I found it chilling and fascinating. Get it and you won't be disappointed.

This book gave me the creeps.

I learned more than I wanted to know about Satanic influences, but I'm glad I suffered through it. Michael Leehan is proof that no one is out of reach from God's forgiveness. If there's someone in our congregations that seems oddly remote and secretive - we might wonder what is going on in the dark, and we should be inspired to pray more.

Wow!

Excellent story! Well written, well read. Narrator was just a tad mechanical, but still good listening. Gave food for thought about my own Christian walk and how we treat "outsiders". Highly recommend!

Good book to show that satan and God do exist

There's always a spiritual battle going on in this world people need to open up their eyes spiritually to see. When you are lukewarm Christian that is when you're only alert to the world and not to the spiritual world this book will will show you....

Powerful!!!

This is a great book that reveals the spiritual darkness around us. This book is creepy to read at times but a very powerful example of how Jesus can save and use absolutely anyone. Mike Lehann reminds me of the apostle Paul. This book is a testimony to the unsaved and strengthening to Christians.

Un libro mas de religión que su experiencia vivida.

La verdad que esperaba mas sobre este libro. El libro al principio habla sobre su vida y su experiencia en lo sucedido. Pero ya después empieza hablar sobre religión y religión y lo mismo con lo mismo. En parte cuenta la verdadera cara de la iglesia católica romana, el cual fue muy interesante conocer sobre ella. Pero se concentra mucho en todo lo que es la religiones. Me u viese gustado mas que se enfocara en su vida basado en lo ocurrido con Ruhama. En conclusión el libro es bueno pero no excelente.

Interesante

A través del libro se puede ver el resentimiento que guarda el Padre Alberto hacia su iglesia madre y no le falto transparencia para sacar todos los trapos sucios al sol. Aunque a veces el curso del libro cae en quejas repetitivas, me parece interesante el haber podido mirar lo que sucede adentro de la institución y que poco conocemos.

Este libro cambio mis puntos de vistas y aunque sigo firme en mi fe, ya no veo la iglesia como el edificio monolítico de pensamiento único que quieren proyectar.

Muffin candles and gun safety

One of my favorite books of all time. My best friend and I have underlined our favorite parts and shared this book back and forth so much the cover is well loved. Laurie is like the missing piece of our inner circle of two. We feel her pain, have similar family weirdness, and lived in those same WTF moments called life. If you don't know about muffin candles- this book is for you. Buy it. Buy it right now. What are you waiting for? Why are you still reading this trying to decide if I, a total stranger, am telling you the truth about how amazing this book is? If you're not into humorous scenarios that hit home in ways you never thought possible- then this book isn't for you. Now click that button and buy this book. I gave it 5 stars! 5! What else could you possibly want from me? I have nothing left to give.

I love many things, but not this book

This book proved for me an overstatement of the obvious--how subjective (our reaction to) the arts really is. (And the value of a really good manuscript editor.) I have a frustrating inability to stop reading a book I don't like. I have to see it through to its bitter end. Part of the reason for such self-punishment is hope that eventually the book or the author's style will eventually grow on me, or that I will come across a jewel of a line so funny or well-written, or insightful to the point I pump my fist in the air and say, "Yes!!" and so there's a payoff finally. I have not given myself further eyestrain in vain. The other reason is the consumer-competitor/nature lover angle. I paid X amount for a book and darn it, I Will Finish It. I will not let it defeat me, make me a quitter. And I think too of the tree cut down to make the book--yet another squirrel left homeless when winter comes. One less branch from which birds perch, waiting to take a dump on my just-washed car.
