    Editorial Reviews:
An epic historical adventure propelled by themes of sin, sexuality, religion, and redemption, A Wind in Cairo immerses listeners in the colorful climes of medieval Egypt, and introduces a protagonist demanding both sympathy and reproach. Guilty of the most contemptible carnal transgressions, Hasan is punished for his crimes when a mage transforms him into a horse - an experience that offers him a much-needed dose of humility. Battle bound and subject to the whims of others, Hasan ironically finds himself jockeying one of his former victims - a twist of fate which leads to a remarkable relationship between the two. In his lilting, elegaic baritone, actor James Patrick betrays a wellspring of emotion as he plunders the depths of Hasan's physical and emotional transformation.

    This one has everything
I have had this in my library of paperback books ,and have read it with pleasure many times. This story of a selfish, spoiled prince who is taught a hard lesson about compassion and humility. Along the way you laugh , cry, revel in the revenge he receives , and experience his slowly dawning wisdom. Magic and adventure in a fast paced story.

    Short, sweet, and funny
    Setting: 1813, London
    Genre: Romance
Some novellas come across as undeveloped novels, with unformed characters and nebulous plots. That is definitely NOT the case with this sweet little story. The characters are lovable - or hateful - depending on what the author wanted. The plot is fully fleshed out and the ending is satisfying. The narration is good as well. Altogether worth the time and money.
DO NOT use a credit, but your credit card instead, since it is under $5.00.

    Members Reviews:
    Short and Awkward
Having read another of Crystal Anne Tilden's books, I know she is capable of writing much better than what is found here. The action sequence toward the beginning of the book was written in such a juvenile way as to be laughable. The savior cowboy began arguing that she was good and worthy of his undying love even when she had hardly said 2 words to him, and those rather cross words. Of course he proposes marriage only a few minutes after meeting her.
The real shame is this was an excellent premise for an enjoyable romance. This could even have served as an expanded outline of the final book, but it is in desperate need of being fleshed out and polished. She has the talent, I wish she would sit down and rewrite this novel and make it what it should be.
Story is rushed and not plausible.
Not plausible, lacking in any real emotion. Sad to see my money go on this one. I never made it past the part where they were riding in the wagon. The driver proposes, then some other guy shows up and takes control of the wagon, Carrie was all about some stranger taking her to her intended. Then the stranger turns the wagon around and doesn't explain anything until the first driver shows up again. If I was Carrie, I'd be running by now. Then her intended shows up and shoots the stranger at the same time as the stranger shoots him. They both die. Then she's left with the original driver. That's when I stopped reading because she was worried more about justice and law and order than her own safety. Boooorrriinnng.
Never read such a short book!
My trouble with this wasn't the story, it was because it was just way to short. I wish it would have been longer and the characters developed more....Wish I would have seen it was just 59 pages, I wouldn't have bought it. (So really, I gave it three stars because I liked the story only!)
    Carrie and the Cowboy
I do enjoy reading stories of mail order brides. I see mind pictures and I can easily project myself in to
that time in history. This was a quick read and a bit simplistic. I have given it a mediocre rating.
    Carrie and the Cowboy
It was a good read. I do love to read about the old west especially about the mail order brides;.which I find very daring on a female's part in the old west days just to pick up and move to where ever her future husband lived. Not know anything about him other than what was written. I wonder how many mail order brides arrived and found themselves in worse conditions than they had left. But women did not have much to chose from back in those times.

I I don't like the narrator of this book.
This is the first time I have written a review and I'm sorry it's because I disliked the narrators grating voice and poor performance. It was hard to tell one character from another. The men's voices were not well done.
I won't buy any more books with this narrator.

    Found A Good One WOW!!!
This Book tells more of a story in the first chapter then in other entire books I have spent money on, then it just gets better and better as the chapters go on. The male voice is good, but not in the female voice.:( Someday I hope that audible business will get it that we all want one female voice and one male voice. Even old time radio did it right, my mother is 85 and tells of her nights as a young girl listening to the voices on the radio. Male was a male, female was a woman. Come on Audible, I pay to much for this bad form.
    Excellent story!
I was skeptic listening at the beginning of this book but as it continued on, I became very intrigued. It was well written and I like the characters a lot. I was really surprised that no one picked up on Danielle being the King's daughter! Although I can see that if she looked as beautiful as her mom like they kept saying. I hated her childish attitude at times but then again she was a child in herself no older than 16-17 years so I can understand. All in all, I enjoyed this book and shall look for more from the author.

But things really get out of hand when someone plunges a knife from Glynna's diner into Dare's back.

    Love this series!
Glad I didn't heed the negative review. Thoroughly enjoy these very real, believable, funny characters and the lighthearted way they go through hard times. Also, Barbara McCulloh is brilliant and perfect for narrating this series!
    Tedious & repetitive storyline
Looked forward to reading this followup after finishing book 1 of this series, which was decent. Greatly disappointed in storyline that became a chore to trudge through. Skipped over several chapters and still couldn't make myself finish the book.

Don't get me wrong, I love MC Beaton
What made the experience of listening to The Constant Companion the most enjoyable?
This was an excellent Beaton title, if you are familiar with her books, this one will not disappoint, she is a real master of character, and she has some hilarious ones in this book
What three words best describe Lindy Nettletons voice?
The reader was a bit stiff, not my favorite of the usual readers for Beaton
    Any additional comments?
My only complaint with this book was the really annoying way that the husband kept doubting the wife in a completely unrealistic manner, I guess just to keep the plot going. This happens a lot in these books, first the two unlikely people get together, then there is some harebrained reason why they split up or fight, etc. don't read this book for the plot, the characters are the thing, imo

Length: 6 hrs and 20 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 09-17-13
    Publisher: Verna Clay
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 22 votes
    Genres: Romance, Historical
    Publisher's Summary:
    Sweet romance, with some profanity.
In Cry of the West , recently widowed Hallie Wells is facing a difficult situation. The sudden demise of her husband after selling their farm and just about everything they owned to travel west on the Oregon Trail, has left her stranded with an eight year old son. Dare she ask Cooper Jerome, recently returned from the War of the States, if he would put his life on hold for, say, five months to drive her wagon; and that doesn't include his return trip. At this point, she's out of options.
    Excerpt:
"Mr. Jerome, would you be interested in driving my wagon to Oregon? I would pay you well."
Cooper blinked, forcing himself to look away from the pleading in her eyes. "Uh, well, ma'am..." He glanced back. She looked like she was about to cry."Uh, ma'am, now that would take me away from my place through planting season and harvest, and longer." He dreaded her expression if he flat out refused.
"I would pay you whatever you would make during harvest and more." She blinked and brushed at a tear that kept welling up in one eye. "Mr. Jerome, I'm desperate. I have no home. I have no husband. I have no family to turn to. I have a young son to care for. And I have very little time to prepare before departure. The wagon train leaves the end of April. Believe me, if I were capable of driving the oxen myself, I would do so. But, as you can see, I am neither large, nor strong. I fear I would kill myself and my child. Besides, I doubt the train master would even allow me near the team after he saw me crack a whip." She gave a pathetic smile at her attempt at a joke.
Cooper forced his eyes away from hers and glanced down the street at the big "saloon" sign. He wanted that drink. Stalling for time, he removed his Stetson, slapped it against his thigh, replaced it, scratched his neck, and finally met her gaze again. "Give me some time to think about it."

If you have the pioneer spirit or have ever wondered what life was like for people in 1866 traveling the Oregon Trail you should enjoy "Cry of the West". The journey begins in Missouri and crosses Kansas, Nebraska, Wyoming, Idaho, to reach their destination in Oregon.
Verna Clay is a wonderful story teller, she really did her research when it came to the Oregon Trail, she brings the trip west to life creating in our minds a reality of joining a Wagon Train and experiencing the beauty and hardships of a five month journey.
