This week my guest is Jake Hanrahan, independent Journalist behind the war reporting platform Popular Front, who is launching a new documentary series called Away Days, covering underground countercultures around the world, from the inside. Jake is probably my most “non-noise” guest I’ve had on the podcast yet, but his understanding of true underground culture and unapologetic approach to media make this an essential episode for people involved in the noise and industrial community. Be sure to subscribe to the Away Days Youtube page to be notified when the first episode drops!

Today my guest is Harrison Phillis of the project SYSTEMS., who runs the label Necessary Fixation, and is also known for his harsh noise wall work as LOST GRAVES. His work focuses heavily on processing and process, often based around uninterrupted source recordings of specific physical acts that become the release object themselves. His full length album "Endless Tunnel," originally released on cassette by Veil Tapes, was reissued on CD by White Centipede Noise in 2023. Harrison also shared a bonus track from the tape "Disaggregate" called "Disarticulate" that you can download now on Patreon.

Jackson Kovalchik aka JHK is New York’s premier noise sound guy. With his roots in DIY and mastery of professional sound technology, Jackson has made a name for himself over the past several years by delivering immaculate and punishingly loud sound at live events in pro music halls and and underground spaces across the city. Jackson also makes noise as JHK, with recent releases on Oxen and Dead Gods, and plays in a number of gorenoise and grindcore projects. Though I still haven't had the pleasure to attend a show he's working, it was great to meet virtually and learn about his craft. This episode is co-hosted by a couple very special guests!
In the full version on Patreon, we go on to discuss new speaker technology, advice for running DIY sound, managing feedback, Jackson’s favorite sounds, more questions from the Discord, running sound for Miyuko Hino and The New Blockaders, his top fives and more. Premium Patreon subscribers can download the JHK track "Ain't A Bad Place To Be" from the USA tour split with VINCENT DALLAS and GESELING.

Over the past several years, Max Eastman's Tribe Tapes has risen as one of the most interesting labels in the international noise scene, reissuing obscure gems of 80s and 90s cassette culture with passionate personal curation, as well as working with a circle of contemporary artists that carry on that same wild spirit. Max also records primitive tape noise under his own name, TANTRIC DEATH, and a number of collaborative projects. He will be on tour in Finland this November, playing Helsinki November 6, Tampere November 8 and Turku November 9. Follow Max at https://www.instagram.com/tribe.tapes/
In the full version on Patreon, we discuss his connection to Finland, domestic noise, audio letters, Jon Olson, releasing VHS, the label Oxidation, Purveyors Arm of Distribution, releasing a tape packaged in a Mcdonalds cheeseburger, his top 5 dub records, and much more. Premium subscribers can download a zipfile of audio visual ephemera that Max put together to share.

We’re back for an AFTERBLAST with Eddie Giles Southgate of the infamous FINAL SOLUTION, now active with a myriad of projects such as DEFECTIVE, UNKNOWN HIERARCHY, and WALLMART. It’s been over 2 years since his first appearance on WCN Podcast, so it was great to catch up and hear what's been on Eddie's mind and going on in his world.

Dwid Hellion is a legend of extreme music, simultaneously fronting the pioneering and genre bending hardcore band INTEGRITY and terrorizing audiences with his extreme noise unit PSYWARFARE. Dwid was responsible for bringing his interests in the extreme and obscure into hardcore, and his personal life walked dangerously close to that edge from a young age. Dwid has been around the block and has a lot of stories to tell, and is still heavily active with both projects. He was kind enough to have me at his home in Ghent, Belgium, where we conducted this interview.

YELLOW TEARS is the infamous urological band and multimedia unit responsible for perverse industrial classics such as "The Pissmop" LP on Hospital Productions, live performances centered around gargling body fluids, and even a theme park, complete with a giant DIY water slide. Its members ran the Red Light District venue in Far Rockaway, NY, a pillar for the American underground extreme music scene, that they still operate to this day. All three members - Frank, Jeremy, and Ryan - were able to take the time to talk to me about their bizarre and unique universe in this episode of WCN Podcast.
On the WCN Patreon, you can download exclusive outtakes from the Pissmop sessions, as well as an edit of new YELLOW TEARS studio improvisations.
Opening track: "3 Heads Underwater Experience" from Cult Of Yellow Tears 7"+CS on Hospital Productions.

We return after a hiatus with a very special episode with the inimitable CLUB MORAL, the legendary and pioneering experimental industrial organization formed by DDV and AMVK in Antwerp, Belgium in early 1981. Through DDV's bizarre and angular vocals and transgressive body art, and AMVK's crude electronics and graphic design, they created some of the most unsettling and austere power electronics of all time. CLUB MORAL was much more than just an audio project - it was an international hub for early industrial artists, a venue and a label, and a free space for radical art. The duo were also responsible for the extreme culture magazine Force Mental. They continue to live and work as visual, audio, and performance artists in Antwerp, where we conducted this interview at their home. You can buy DDV's incredible book documenting all of his performances at https://www.performan.org/book/
