White Centipede Noise Podcast

R.I.P. James Cooke

While speaking with Egan Budd of Xiphoid Dementia on the podcast, he told me about a trove of interviews he recorded with noise artists for his Blood Ties webzine in the mid-2000s (later Existence Establishment). He’s generously shared the archive so these crucial documents won’t be lost.

Gary Mundy is a pioneer of the UK power electronics and noise underground since the early 1980s through his work with RAMLEH and the legendary label Broken Flag. He has also long been active under the solo name Kleistwahr, and as a member of the band Breathless, alongside other projects. Ramleh, which walks parallel paths both as a rock band and power electronics unit, has a new album out now called Hyper Vigilance.

Today my guest is Felix Erberth of Euronet, a noise project hailing from Malmö, Sweden. The project has a sparse but strong catalog of mechanical industrial noise with a unique atmosphere and aesthetic. One of my favorite noise projects that has flown under the radar of many, and since we've been pen pals for years, it was great to finally meet in person. Felix’s other passions outside of noise include hacking and puppetry. His animatronic and rod puppetry work can be seen at https://avgrund.net/. You can sample his noise at https://www.euronet-releases.com/

Felix joined me at WCN Studios in Potsdam for this interview, where we also recorded a live in-studio EURONET set that will be released on WCN TV at Patreon next week.

In addition to asking most of my guests their top 5 noise releases of all time, I usually ask them to tell me their top 5 noise of the past year, in order to learn about good shit that's going on right now, and help shine a light on it. In this episode, we compile many of the answers our guests have given us, going back to the first days of the podcast. Get out your pen and paper, then go hit up your local distros to track down some good noise.

Joke Lanz is a Swiss born Actionist sound, performance, and visual artist, active since the late 80s. Joke’s work explores the extremities of birth and death, often through the lenses of childhood and fatherhood. Bill Henson is an OG of both Minneapolis and international noise, playing in the duo JUHYO with Brian Kopish, running Housepig records, and working closely with artists like BASTARD NOISE, NAMANAX, AUBE, and more. He operates with an ethos that blends pragmatic professionalism with a DIY punk spirit. He also documents live Minneapolis noise extensively for his YouTube channel, and is working on a long-form documentary about the Minneapolis scene.

Federal ICE agents are currently carrying out "Operation Metro Surge" in the city of Minneapolis, which has resulted in numerous unlawful killings at the hands of law enforcement, in addition to a wide range of civil rights abuses.
