Sherri Papini was found alive on Thanksgiving morning, three weeks after her alleged abduction. Although the circumstances surrounding the 34-year-old mother's disappearance and return are unusual, Shasta County Sheriff Tom Bosenko said he has "no reason to disbelieve" the California woman's story. - Inquisitir

Papini was reported missing after she went out for a jog near her Shasta County home in Northern California. Three weeks later, she was found injured and alone on a highway about 140 miles away. She told police she had been abducted and tortured by two masked, Spanish-speaking women who kept her chained in a closet, held her at gunpoint and branded her with a heated tool.

The accusations led authorities to carry out an extensive search for the supposed Hispanic captors that came up empty for several years. She also received more than $30,000 from the state in victim compensation funds. -CNN

It was August 6, 1988, when 22-year-old Jane Boroski, seven months pregnant, was one her way back from a county fair in Keene, New Hampshire. She decided to stop at a convenience store in West Swanzey to buy a drink but it was closed. So she got something from a vending machine. When Ms. Boroski got back to her car she noticed a Jeep Wagoneer had parked next to her. As terrifying as this must have been she then saw through her rear-view mirror, the driver of the vehicle walking around the back of her vehicle...I'll let Jane tell the rest her story.

One of the most prolific serial killers of our time and the authorities have only found one body. Keyes admitted to violent crimes as early as 1996, with the violent sexual assault of a teenage girl in Oregon. He committed a long series of rapes and murders until his capture in 2012.

Based upon investigation conducted following his arrest in March 2012, Israel Keyes is believed to have committed multiple kidnappings and murders across the country between 2001 and March 2012. Keyes lived in Washington from 2001 to March 2007, at which time he moved to Alaska. While living in Alaska, Keyes worked as a general contractor but traveled extensively.

Chief of Police Gregory Adams was shot and killed while making a traffic stop in the parking lot of the Agway Feed Store. Chief Adams was on Water Street when the suspect sped past a stop sign. Chief Adams pursued the man and caught up with him when the man attempted to turn around in a supermarket parking lot.

This decision would scar the Adams' family and the town of Saxonburg forever.

On Aug. 4, 1981, Sylvia Quayle, 34, was found dead in her home along the 3800 block of S. Ogden Street in Cherry Hills. A coroner determined she had been stabbed multiple times, was shot in the head, and had been sexually assaulted. She was found by her father. - 9News

Toronto police say a private investigation into the slayings two years ago of billionaire couple Barry and Honey Sherman has ended, but their own probe continues — and they want people who sent tips to the private tipline to repeat them now directly to police.

To that end, police have set up a telephone tipline and email address, Insp. Hank Idsinga told a media briefing Monday.

The Sherman family had hired a team of private investigators to conduct an independent probe. It included several former Toronto homicide detectives.

While Idsinga said the private team received 343 tips — information that was shared with police — it has now wrapped its work on the case, he said, citing the Sherman family.

Idsinga asked that anyone who submitted those private tips now resubmit them to Toronto police to avoid any loss of information. - CBC

Investigators said Barry and Honey were found dead in the lower-level pool area, reportedly hanging by belts from a railing on the pool deck and wearing their clothing. A post-mortem examination determined the Shermans died of “ligature neck compression.” It was also determined that the couple likely died two days before they were found on Dec. 13, 2017. - GlobalNewsCa

Molly, the youngest of three siblings, was 16 when she was killed. An honor roll student, Molly had just completed her junior year of high school. She played soccer, basketball and softball. Funny and social, Molly loved everyone. She was a blend of “Lucy” and “Forest Gump.”

Just eight days after beginning her new job as a lifeguard at Cummins Pond, Molly was abducted. After three years of fear and the unknown, her bathing suit was found in a wooded area five miles away from the pond. In the weeks that followed, her remains were found and she came home bone-by-bone. Molly was laid to rest on her birthday, August 2, 2003. - Mass.gov
