Do you need to grow up on horses in order to make it your career? Today I speak to former jockey and Grassroots Gazette racing correspondent James Brennan about just that
We speak about how his dad bringing him to Tramore races at age 15 ignited a passion in him for racing
How despite having no background in riding he decided he wanted to be a jockey
This led him to apply to and attend RACE and after completing that course he went to work with
Emmanuel Hughes whom he had done work through the course
We speak about the importance of having people like Emmanuel around him when he was learning the ropes
About the things that people don't realise that jockeys do when riding
And that top-level jockeys will always help the younger jockeys too as they've been there themselves and want to see them all do well
We also speak about the grooms and their love for the horses that they look after and the pride they have no matter what place it finishes
James then talks about transitioning out of life as a jockey but the bug never really leaves you which was what brought him into contact with The Grassroots Gazette
The buzz of seeing content you created online and people interacting with it
We finish off by speaking about what James is planning for the future including some exciting plans
