Ready for a thrilling journey back to the Wild West? This episode will transport you to Gray County in 1887, where an election for the county seat sparked a series of power plays fueled by millionaire Asa T Sewell's promises and political maneuvers. Asa tried everything to swing the vote in favor of Ingalls, from promising a railroad to freely dispersing checks to residents. Despite all his efforts, Cimarron emerged victorious. But that was just the beginning.
Fasten your seatbelts as we relive the daring raid on the Cimarron courthouse led by Bill Tilman and his posse, including myself. We braved the tension-filled streets and faced a nail-biting siege, all to reclaim the county seat records. And let's not forget our wild ride across the prairie, the heart-stopping battle of Cimarron, and the bloody aftermath. You'll also hear the brave tales of Tom, Jim, and Neil, who chose to stay back, their guns their only defense against the mob. So saddle up, folks! We're heading straight into the heart of the Wild West.

One of the last of the county-seat wars was that of Cimarron vs. Ingalls. The stories of the different county-seat wars that marked the history of the development of western Kansas differed each from the other, but there was one point of resemblance common to them all. All of them were distinguished by a disregard of honor and a willingness on the part of both parties to the contest to violating every civil and moral law in order to win. The county-seat war in Gray County did not differ in that respect from the others, but it had wider ramifications and elements of almost-romance that distinguished it from all the rest. This story produced by Mike King and narrated by Brad Smalley are the events leading up to the Battle of Cimarron.Support the show

Part five takes you into the streets of Dodge City, then named Buffalo City - at the first look of crude framed buildings, half wood, and half dugout. The streets were populated with freighters, hunters, and soldiers. Brown describes how he becomes the second saloon owner by constructing a fourteen-foot wood structure. It only took a week for entertainment to reach the small makeshift town. The gamblers and women started to arrive in big bowed, mule-driven wagons. What comes next from those wagons begins to play out as bad whiskey business - as one of the first gunfights erupts in the street between gambler Moorehouse and ruffian by the name of Langford. The story narrated by Brad Smalley and written/produced by Mike King is a part of a historical series about the early buffalo hunters in Kansas.
