Beginning on Tuesday at 4 p.m., teams across the NFL can begin designating franchise and transition players. One likely candidate to be placed with the franchise tag is Carolina Panthers outside linebacker Brian Burns. After being named a Pro Bowler in 2021 and 2022, Burns was seeking a long-term deal before the 2023 season but contract negotiations stalled right as the season began. Now, the Panthers have a decision to make, tag Burns, sign him to a long-term deal, or let him test free agency.
