  • How to Handle Anxiety, Grief, and Lamenting with Sherman Bradley, Pastor and Founder of GOODFIT

Today's episode with Sherman Bradley is inspiring. Sherman is a pastor and entrepreneur, so he has a lot going on. There is so much we can learn from him because he's crazy smart and intellectual. We talked a lot about empathy, and how you can be a feeler, but that doesn't necessarily mean you're empathetic. That was eye-opening to me. Plus he's in a season of rest which for many of us, myself included, we dont even know what rest means! So there's a lot to learn from him on this season of rest he's in. So enjoy the episode, and be ready to take notes!

    In this episode, you'll discover…

    • What is the key trait to winning at home and at work? (1:12)
    • How can we teach our children to have empathy? (5:00)

    Sherman's Bio:

I am an experienced visionary, trainer, motivational speaker, and entrepreneur for nonprofits. As an activator, connector, and strategist I am successful at establishing a direction for new ideas and specializing in advancing processes to achieve growth and development of vision. I have been an entrepreneur utilizing my gifts as a trainer and consultant. • From private jets to prison to a life of purpose with Mark Whitacre, Executive Director of t-Factor

    Happy New Year!

Since it is the beginning of a new year, we are all being bombarded with emails about New Year's resolutions, coming up with our One Word, creating 'I will' statements, and the list goes on.

I believe in those practices, however, today I want to provide a different perspective.

    A bigger perspective.

This week's podcast will help you 'zoom out' to remind us of why we even make resolutions, to begin with.

This week's podcast episode is unbelievable!

    Mark Whitacre had it all.

At 32 years old, he had an 8-car garage, 13,000 square foot house, and his own jet!

However, he started to form his identity around this success!

As it so often does, placing our identity to temporary things, leads to poor decisions and erosion of character.

With the level of power at Mark's fingertips, his poor decisions led him to being involved in an enormous international price fixing scheme!

At the demand of his wife, Mark turned himself into the FBI, making him the highest ranked corporate whistle blower ever!

However, his greed and desire for more success, didn't stop.

Mark ended up making poor decisions while wearing a FBI wire, causing him to spend 8 years in prison!

However, this is an amazing story of redemption and restoration.

Mark became a Christian while in prison, helped prisoners get their GED, spent daily time in the Bible, and so much more.

In prison, he found his purpose.

Now he is an Executive Director with t-Factor, a division of Coca-Cola Consolidated (a $6 BILLION dollar public company), that helps companies incorporate faith into their work.

This is podcast is a great reminder of what is important in life, coming from a guy who had it all!

    • What is the key trait to winning at home and at work? (1:12)
    • The slippery slope of tying your identity to your work. (6:30)
    • We can change for the worst 1 degree at a time. (11:20)
    • How do you make sure you dont fall into the same trap again? (13:58)
    • How do you control your ambition? (25:17)

    Marks Bio:

Mark Whitacre is an Ivy League Ph.D. and the highest-ranked executive of any Fortune 500 company to become a whistleblower in US history, and is responsible for uncovering the ADM price-fixing scandal in the early 1990's. Mark's undercover work with the FBI during the ADM scandal was the inspiration for the major motion picture, "The Informant," starring Matt Damon as Mark Whitacre.

Matt is married so we talk about how he and his wife spend time together every single day, and the important role it plays in their successful marriage.

    Matt's Bio:

Our team built Share to give ministries access to a resource that businesses have been drawing on for years: Freelance talent.

In November 2019, I started exploring what it would look like for the church to have its own marketplace. What if a pastor couldn't (or didn't want to) bring on an employee, but needed to get things done? Where could ministries go to find highly skilled and highly creative talent? The graphic designers. The video editors. The social media managers. The people who are necessary to help keep ministries moving forward in the 21st century.

We launched in March 2020. That's right. We launched as COVID hit. And we're not only still here, we're growing.

  • Power of dreaming, discernment and prioritization with Dustin Riechmann, partner at Fire Creek Snacks

Dustin Riechmann wears a lot of different hats, thus has many different areas that he can speak into and help each of us.

First, he is a degreed engineer, but no longer practices engineering. He took a bold move to not renew his license after reading my book 'Rise and Go'! (check out this cool story here!!) So, he understands taking risks.

Another cool hat is he started helping a brand called Fire Creek Snacks, and due to his marketing success, they are now on the shelves of Wal-Mart.

Another hat is being a successful entrepreneur in helping married couples, and he now has a digital course that helps hundreds of couples!

As you can tell, a man of many talents.

One of my favorite parts we talked about was setting aside 15 minutes a day to talk with your spouse.

I've been featured on over 20 podcasts in the past year (growing FireCreek Snacks to 7 figures of revenue), and I've helped dozens of clients grow rapidly through similar partnerships.

When I'm not building businesses, you'll find me hanging out with my beautiful wife of 20 years and our three kids. And yes, all three of our kids have businesses of their own - we can't help ourselves.

  • Bi-vocational ministry, fatherhood and identity with Peter Ostapko, author and business leader

A friend told me that I needed to connect with this week's podcast guest, Peter Ostapko, because of his heart to help people with their identity. The fact is that their identity is not in their job, salary, or type of car, but instead in their relationship to God.

Oh man, am I glad that we connected.

One reason is because of the Kinsmen Journal he and his team created. It is basically a very professional coffee table book that talks about fatherhood and identity. Seriously, click on the link and look at how professional it is! I have a copy and have read some of the stories and they are awesome.

And the Kinsmen Journal project isn't even his full time job!

Peter is a VP at a bank in Springfield, MO. Peter and I have a great discussion on being bi-vocational and the struggle of asking ourselves, 'Do we have what it takes?'

Peter is married with two kids and one on the way so he understands about winning at home first!

Great episode if you are juggling a side hustle or want to pursue a dream. Plus the podcast is very powerful if you are a man, or have sons.

    In this episode, you'll discover…

    • What is the key trait to winning at home and at work? (1:15)
    • Can our work expand or contract to the time allotted? (4:05)
    • What do you want? (16:05)
    • How to continue pressing forward with a passion project, despite difficulty? (22:52)
    • How do you leave your projects in God's hands?? (28:29)

    Peters Bio

Peter is the Founder and Publisher of Kinsmen Journal. Publishing has long been a dream of his, though only in recent years did the dream become more clear. This platform and voice has been birthed out of his belief that God is good, and that each of us have a story to tell, because of a Savior that redeems.

Today's episode is one that will inspire you to take steps towards that dream project you have. Ali runs a specialty food company with her husband and had to make big decisions, and big sacrifices to get there.

They both had successful jobs as engineers, so it took a lot of faith in god and their 'why' as they made the decision to quit their jobs, and move toward this dream.

They chose to live on just one salary and save all of that money because they wanted to work together towards a meaningful purpose.

    • How to rest if my business never slows down ( 14:05)

Matt has a personal history of cancer and diabetes in his family and Alli has struggled with weight gain, PCOS, and hormonal imbalances. These health challenges inspire us to help others find a path to wellness that works for the long run.
