Deerfield-based Walgreens is reportedly in talks to sell itself to a private equity firm. The move could take the company private and analysts say it could lead to a sell off of pieces of Walgreens. The company’s in talks with Sycamore Partners about a possible deal, which could be completed early next year, according to the Wall Street Journal. The New York-based equity firm specializes in retail and consumer investments. If the deal goes through, it would end local control of the century old Chicago business. Charles Walgreen Sr. bought the drugstore where he worked as a pharmacist and turned it into an iconic local brand.
