There are many well-known cryptids across the globe but what about the local monster, hiding in the woods on the outskirts of town, the local legend of the creature that howls in the night?
To a small town in Northern Florida, this is home to one of these lesser-known cryptids, yet to the local residents and historians, he is flesh and blood and a part of their town.

Small towns have many of the best local legends. One such place exists in Northern Florida, where a man-like creature roams the wetlands and has been spotted numerous times. It has shaggy gray fur and resembles an ape in many respects except its height which is much shorter making this a "Mini-Bigfoot." It is also possible to have ties to a Wild Man of the Woods captured in the area during the 1800s.

At 8:32 AM on May 18, 1980, Mount Saint Helens awoke from its 150-year nap with a volcanic eruption of immense proportions. The blast was 1600 times the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima during World War 2. Everything was destroyed.
Yet, immediately after the eruption, people began reporting a creature in the skies surrounding the volcano. It was said to be nine feet tall with bat-like wings and blackish-blue fur. Strangest yet, the beast seemed to have the ability to drain the energy from electronics and car engines.

Since 1891, reports of an extremely large moose have been reported roaming the forests of Maine. It has been said to stand fifteen feet tall, with antlers that reach ten feet apart, and is ghostly white in color.
The most shocking aspect is that the creature seems to be bullet-proof and has the ability to vanish without a trace. Is it an albino, a genetic oddity, or perhaps some spiritual protector of the forest.

For eleven years, from 1955 to 1966, eyewitnesses were seeing a strange fog colored pink like cotton candy. It would creep across the surface of the wetlands of Tomoka River and devour the flesh off anything within its path.
Could this be caused by chemical waste or a curse placed on a local Native American Chief for drinking from the Fountain of Youth?

Deep within the woods of the Ozarks National Forest have been tales of a creature the size of a bear but with the graceful agility of a cat. According to the legend, its howl is enough to instill dread into a person's soul and can take a person away to the underworld. Even Daniel Boone once faced such a creature.

Since the 1920s, the residents of Selbyville have told stories of a creature roaming the edges of the Great Cypress Swamp. However, in 1964, the largest number of incidents involving a creature jumping out at passing cars would occur. The number and details convinced the locals that they were being stalked by something not natural.

Peninsula, Ohio, was a small town where nothing exciting happens beyond farming the vast corn fields. During the summer of 1944, that would all change as the locals would start discovering tracks resembling tire tracks, broken tree branches, and missing chickens. The town was being invaded by a creature that should not exist in America's Midwest, an eighteen-foot snake.
