Episode 89 of the Women Om Wisdom podcast is the place where I’m going to pause for a few months. In this episode, I talk about why, and it's exciting.

As I’m choosing to be intentional about how I show up for myself and others and how I live my values, it feels like the right time to take a step back in a number of areas so I can take a step forward in a priority area. Perhaps something similar is coming up for you. If so, consider what it would be like to indulge yourself.

Kasandra Gandara, Mayor Pro Tem of the City of Las Cruces, NM was my guest on Facebook Live on Tuesday, March 8th. Wow, do I feel grateful to have connected with her.

A few months ago, I discovered that Las Cruces had elected the first all-female city council in the city's history. In this episode, we discuss the significance of this new and exciting reality, including the all-too-familiar challenges. You'll hear about how this new council is leading, communicating and collaborating, and what they're focused on accomplishing during this term.

We reflect on what would be different if half of all elected positions globally were occupied by women. In addition, Kasandra offers her thoughts on how to get more women running for and elected to public office.

Finally, Kasandra shares how she defines success at this point in her life and what she's looking forward to in the next year, personally and professionally.

In recognition and celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8th, I’m absolutely thrilled to share with you the voices of 24 incredible women sharing the wisdom they’ve gained from the experiences of the past year and what they're looking forward to in 2022.

I am grateful to know these insightful, grounded, generous women, each in their own ways helping other women come into their power on our shared journey of bringing about a kinder, gentler, more just and compassionate world where all people have the opportunity to reach their potential.

Success in any endeavor usually begins with planning and preparation. You can get lucky once in awhile and have something turn out beautifully by winging it. That tends to be the exception, of course, and not the rule. What I know for sure is that when I take the time to map things out – to give myself adequate time to plan and prepare, the process is much more enjoyable and the end result feels more grounded and of higher quality. If you’re a procrastinator, consider making the adjustments highlighted in this episode.

Nancy Gries, CEO of Coti Vision™, and her business partner, Julie, launched their company in 2019, with a desire to make reading glasses and accessories that inspire women to be bold and celebrate their unique personalities. Nancy is bold, she's an innovator, she encourages and supports other women and celebrates their success. In this episode, we explore Nancy's career progression and how she decided to start her own company, including the joys and challenges along the way. We also discuss her experience of making a pitch to potential investors on Dragons' Den, the U.K.'s version of Shark Tank, in April 2021. What a courageous, exciting, and terrifying adventure! We also talk about Nancy's perspective on work-life balance and how having a passion for your work may disrupt that balance from time to time. Perhaps that's not only okay, but necessary.

Finally, Nancy shares what she does for fun, how she relaxes, what she does for self-care, and what she's looking forward to in the next year.

It’s mid-January, and I’m guessing you’re right back into the swing of things at work and at home. Before we get to the end of January, I encourage you to build white space into your year so that you can be intentional about reconnecting with yourself over and over again in ways that support what you’d like to accomplish or realize this year. There’s so much noise in the world. There’s a lot of noise in our homes and workplaces, too. Whether it’s your smart phone or the television or music or whatever else clutters your mind. When you want to reconnect with yourself, it’s helpful to have space that’s just for you, away from all the noise. It feels good to give your nervous system a break, to not have to engage or respond to anyone or anything. To be able to watch your thoughts float by or to journal to help you make sense of it all. It is my belief that millions more women and girls coming into their power will bring about a kinder, gentler, more compassionate and just world where all people have the opportunity to reach their potential.
