Whether you feel that everything is going smoothly in your life or not, there comes a point when it’s clear that you want something to be different. The question is what exactly is it that you want to be different? Most of the time, it isn’t going to happen overnight. Getting there requires thought, planning, a series of steps, and probably help from others. As we get closer to the holidays, you might be thinking about things you’re grateful for, the people in your life, the experiences you’ve had, whatever brings you joy, even the things that are difficult but have helped you grow. When we think about being grateful, it’s usually, but not always, for things outside of ourselves. What if you were to turn that gratitude inward? What are you grateful for about yourself?

I have this lovely room in our home where I meditate and practice yoga. The walls are painted a soft lavender, and a beautiful bamboo plant makes it feel like nature has come indoors. There are two windows with no window dressings, so the light of the moon and sun offer natural light and another connection to nature. A mandala floor covering that sits atop the carpeting is the first thing I see when I enter this sacred space. This is a great time of year to set up your own sacred space, where you can be and not do. Where you can slow down and reflect and take a deep breath. In this episode, I talk about the benefits of having your own sacred space and ask you to consider what yours might look like ~ what helps you to feel grounded? ~ what's peaceful and healing? ~ what needs to be in your sacred space for it to feel like home to you?

There were many ways the YMCA adjusted to meet the needs of the community during the height of the pandemic. Julie shares how they were able step up in ways big and small in order to be there for kids and families during what was a stressful and scary time for our communities, our country, and the world.

Julie is a believer in creating the community you want to live in. We explore some of the ways she does that, including through work and through volunteering.

Hopefully, we all learn over time who can be trusted and who can’t. It’s not to say you shouldn’t be friends with someone who can’t keep things to themselves, but it’s probably a good idea to not give them information that you want kept in confidence.
