On the show today Chris Stafford chats to former USA Team rider Heather Blitz who reviews the Grand Prix Special and you can hear how impressed she was with the quality of the leading riders.  Women ruled today with all three podium places going to the girls in a nail biting finish with the top 3 riders.  Chris also spoke to the bronze medalist Britain's Charlotte Dujardin who was surprised herself to be on the podium with her young mare Mount St John Freestyle. Double Olympian Bettina Hoy who is coach of the Dutch eventing team, and Debbie Adams, rider, trainer and a volunteer cross country judge here at the World Equestrian Games tomorrow. They share their thoughts on the course and how it will ride and their impressions of this facility and how they are handling a major championships especially with a hurricane approaching.

On day 2 of the World Equestrian Games, the team dressage medals were decided and it came down to the anchor rider for Team USA to not only squeeze Sweden off the podium and to the home crowd’s delight they went one better to clinch the silver medal behind Germany. It's the first day of competition at the FEI World Equestrian Games which got underway at 7am with the endurance. Alas, chaos reined as some riders were misdirected by the stewards and got lost so the FEI decided to restart the race at the first vet gate some 40 miles into the 100 mile race.  The race then became a 120km (74 mile) long and some teams were unhappy with this decision.  Elsewhere the the first day of dressage saw no surprises among the leading nations as the teams compete for medals and the first round of qualification after the Grand Prix  will see the top 30 riders going through to the Grand Prix Special on Friday.  The eventers had their veterinary inspection today and will begin the first day of dressage tomorrow. I caught up with New Zealand's Jonelle Price to talk about her current form and how she feels going into the games with the mare Classic Moet whom she rode to 4th place at the 2014 World Equestrian Games in France and earlier this year won the Badminton Horse Trials in England. Jonelle also tells us how she feels about competing as a new mom. Chris also walked the cross country course and rounds up the day's events.

Chris Stafford begins coverage of the FEI World Equestrian Games from the Tryon International Equestrian Center in Tryon, NC with an introduction to the event, its history and what we can expect of the eight disciplines that are taking place over the next two weeks. This week we can expect dressage, eventing, reining and endurance. Chris is joined by veteran equestrian journalist Pamela Young, former editor of Horse International who has covered many World and Olympic Games. Pamela shares her perspective as they discuss the competition, who impressed them at this morning's veterinary inspection for dressage. Pam tells us what she is most looking forward to and why this event is so special for horse sport and the wider horse world, including the army of international media who do this for the love of the horse.
