Her boat flipped over and Shelley suffered serious injuries during testing in Sardenia in 2010 the boat came off a wave and on landing the bow shattered. Shelley suffered head injuries and a broken nose. It was the second major crash that she has suffered in five weeks after her boat was hit by a large wave during the final of the Malta Grand Prix. Sailing had always been a part of her life, having grown up on Lake Washington near Seattle, she excelled in the 29er class and was selected for the U.S. Sailing Development Team, progressing through to the 49fx and Nacra 17. Helena took up Moth sailing in 2018 to complement her training in the Nacra class. This year, Nicole participated in 29029, which is an endurance event that involves summiting a mountain as many times as it takes to complete 29,029 ft in elevation in 3 days. Also, we discuss the difference between mobility, flexibility and stability in relation to movement and injuries. It's common for athletes to think that stretching is the solution to many problems, but there's often a lot more to it. Nicole walks us through what is going on when you have a tight muscle or notice a pain start up when you're out on your run and gives a few tips on what to try or look for when the body inevitably starts ‘talking’ to you.
