“Self-love” is one of those terms that get thrown around a lot (especially in relationship advice blogs!)

But what does self-love actually mean, in practice?

Without self-love it’s harder for us to be as kind and good to ourselves as we’d be to the woman we love.

Love is about showing up consistently and working through conflicts and forgiving mistakes and imperfections…

All of that takes time and attention and care.

These are things we do for the women we love, when we want to build a partnership…

But when we make the choice to consistently show up for ourselves (the way we would for the woman of our dreams) that’s when self-love can start to grow, even if it wasn’t there before.

The problem is that most of us wouldn’t even know where to begin…

Most of us weren’t raised in environments where self-love was the

It turns out that it’s not uncommon for closeted women to suffer from eating disorders before coming out…

In fact, people can subconsciously “use” eating disorders as a way to disconnect and dissociate from the body.

The discovery of a partner’s affair can be traumatic and heartbreaking and earth-shattering.

But unfortunately a lot of women have partners who cheat.

Melissa Davis, my guest on this episode of Women Wanting Women, thought she had the perfect life…

She married her college sweetheart and they had two baby girls (a 3-year old and a newborn infant) when she found out her husband was having an affair with her best friend.

What could be more maddening than that?

But Melissa emerged from the torment and heartbreak and shame with a purpose.

Melissa took everything she learned from her experience healing from her husband’s affair and joined forces with two other psychologists (one of whom also had a cheating husband) and together they created an online affair recovery program to help other women who find themselves in the same situation.

I really resonate with Melissa’s mission, because what she’s doing for women who have been cheated on is exactly what I’m doing for women in the queer female community. I created (Come Out Confidently and Magnetic Attraction For Lesbians) because having learned the powerful lessons that enabled me to end my own struggles, I became passionate about teaching what I learned to other women who are in similar situations.

Come Out Confidently is the class I created to help women use the experience of coming out as a massive opportunity for increasing your personal power. I was introduced to Devi Maisha by Kimra Luna (a former podcast guest and now friend.)

Kimra organized a ladies night for a few of her queer female entrepreneur friends downtown in New York City, and Maisha was one of the other guests there.

How does your energy make women feel when you meet them?

Do you know?

Do you know how your energy subconsciously makes other people feel when you’re around them?

The energy we radiate is a big deal, whether we’re dating, working with clients, making new friends or trying to improve the relationships we have with family members.

Regardless of what we say and do on the outside, people around us can still feel our inner energy.

But the thing is that the people in our lives aren’t directly going to tell us if our energy is making them uncomfortable. First of all, oftentimes we don’t know, because we feel each other’s energy subconsciously (and sometimes we are so stuck in our heads that we don’t notice it outwardly.)

Second of all, we don’t want to make anyone feel bad, and it can be socially awkward to tell another person that their energy is “off” (or strange or misaligned or doesn’t feel good to be around.)

So even though the energy we radiate is vitally important, people in our lives often can’t and don’t tell us about how our energy feels.

But guess what… animals tell us.

Animals are extremely sensitive to people’s energy. And of all the domesticated animals, horses are said to be the most hyper-sensitive to people’s energy.

In fact, expert horse trainers don’t really just train horses. Horse trainers have to train the riders themselves, because that person’s energy is going to have the most impact on how the horse behaves.

We all know the saying “you can’t hide from the blind” – and it turns out you can’t fake it with a horse either.

That’s why, believe it or not, a good horse trainer is really an expert at teaching people how we can be more energetically aligned in our core.

Learning how to align our energy can help in all areas of life, from dating and love and romance to career success to family cohesion and to social popularity.
