  • Lesbian Relationships: Creating Epic Love And Never Settling, With Annie Lalla

How do we make sure we’re never settling for the wrong person?

Finding true love means making a commitment to never settling.

And that can be scary. Because when we are single and lonely, it’s easy to start doubting whether the “right person” even exists for us. The longer we stay single the more and more overbearing the pressure can be to settle for someone “good enough.”

How do we make sure we find our soulmate in this lifetime?

By never settling before she arrives.

“The most important decision we’ll ever make…”

The decision we make when we pick a life partner is possibly the most important decision we’ll ever make.

How much we succeed or fail in life depends largely on whether we choose a partner who partner pushes us to be better and helps us create conditions for us to thrive… or whether we choose a partner who holds us back or distracts us or gets in the way of us being our best…

Our personal success in life requires our commitment to never settling in love.

    Asking an expert…

If there’s one person in the world who I’d turn to for advice on finding epic love and never settling, it’s Annie Lalla. That’s why I was so excited that she agreed to be this episode’s podcast guest.

This interview with Annie Lalla is full of her expert advice on what single women can do to make sure we end up with the most dreamy partner imaginable on earth.

    This is personal…

Annie Lalla has had a very big impact on my life.

The first reason is because she saved my last relationship from the brink of separation…

I had a girlfriend for 5 really happy years. But three years into our relationship we had this one very bad fight that left us both fully ready to break up with each other…

But, lucky for us, Annie Lalla was there, at a conference we were attending, and she gave a talk on overcoming conflicts in partnership…

Annie is so profoundly good at what she does that within just about 10 minutes of being on stage, my girlfriend and I were holding hands and crying and back on the same team again…

Annie is a masterful teacher on the subject of love and relationships. I’ve never seen anything quite like it.

The second reason why this interview is personally important to me is because Annie is married to a man named Eben Pagan, who is the teacher I’ve studied from more than any other teacher in my life.

Annie has a huge influence on Eben’s teachings, and Eben has had a huge influence on me. I’ve learned so much from the two of them, and they’re a very big deal to me.

    I’m a huge fan…

I was really excited to talk to Annie and have the opportunity to directly ask her all these burning questions I’ve been wanting to talk about together for so long…

    Don’t Miss This Episode

In this episode Annie shares some incredible tips, including:

    • How to make sure we’re never settling for the wrong person
    • The best steps to take to attract your soulmate into your life
    • The best mind-technology for increasing your self-esteem, and
    • The important truth about jealousy, envy and shame and what it can teach us about our relationships with other women
    • How about you?

Are you willing to commit to never settling in love?

If so, then make a promise to yourself right now. Take out your journal and write the following pledge: I’m never settling until she finds me. I’m never settling until we find each other. I’m never settling, no matter how scary it gets.

      Desperation Can Be Avoided.

Lesbian dating Is hard, but desperation can be avoided, no matter how bad things get.

Whether you’re a lesbian dating for the first time, or whether you’ve had a ton of experience in the lesbian dating scene, the truth is, we are all human. And it’s human nature to be afraid of rejection and loss.

When we’re dealing with hard situations in life, like heartbreak and loneliness, it’s easy to be overcome by self-judgment and negativity. But self-judgment and negativity can lead to desperation, why is why they’re really problematic in lesbian dating.

“You Can’t Hide From The Blind”

You see… women are highly intuitive.

Women can “smell” desperation and fear and insecurity. Those qualities are huge turn-offs that can’t be hidden from other women. Because women can sense each other’s anxiety and low self-esteem.

Lesbian dating is all about being exposed, because other women can see us in ways men cannot.

So if we want to have more success in lesbian dating… we have to find a way to cope with our shame and our inner critics and all the emotions that overwhelm us and lead to desperation. Not by dimming our light and squashing these emotions, but by owning them. By becoming stronger and more powerful than the emotions themselves.

      That’s hot.

It’s very sexy when a woman can be both wild AND in control at the same time – standing in her power while still feeling the full range of her emotions. A woman capable of owning her emotions like that is a force to be reckoned with.

      You, too.

The good news is anyone can learn to do this.

There are practical tools that anyone can use to strengthen our capacity to cope with our emotions and handle ourselves in a way that is sexier, and more attractive to other women.

These are tools that can help you avoid desperation forever.

That’s why I invited Sharon Salzberg onto my podcast.

Sharon Salzberg is a world-renowned Buddhist meditation teacher who I knew would be the perfect person to ask about these mind tricks for being stronger and more powerful in the face of our emotions.

In this interview you will learn:

      • A strategy for feeling more whole, so you don’t cling with neediness or desperation to the women you meet;
      • The antidote to anger and fear, so you can keep it together when connecting with women you’re attracted to (even when there’s drama);
      • A trick for overcoming habitual self-criticism, so you can project more confidence when dating; and
      • A technique for becoming stronger (and more powerful) than your negative emotions, so women you meet see and sense that you’re capable of accessing and expressing the full range of emotions (which is hot) while still “owning it” and remaining in control of your business.
      • Practicing and mastering these methods will make you far more attractive to the women you meet. That’s why I am so excited that Sharon Salzberg shared her wisdom with us on the podcast.

Do you ever notice little old couples walking down the street together, hand in hand? Like, super old people, who clearly have spent their entire lifetimes together, and now they’re still holding hands and hobbling down the street side-by-side?

That’s one of my favorite things in the world to see.

But 99 times out of 100, when we see couples like that, they’re heterosexual.

I want to see old ladies walking hand in hand!

I think the problem is that up until recently being “out” was dangerous. Being in same-sex couples would have been extremely challenging for women who grew up in older generations.

And obviously, in lots of places in the world it’s still dangerous and challenging (or totally impossible) to be in a same-sex couple.

I live in New York City where women can be together openly and safely and proudly if they want.

And by the time we’re all old ladies, hopefully we’ll still be hobbling around next to each other holding hands and giving young couples something to look up to.

But for now, women like us don’t have a lot of strong examples of long-term, deeply loving functional relationships between two women that we can look to for an example of what’s possible.

When our heterosexual friends make lifelong commitments to each other, they have examples all around them of relationships that stood the test of time “till death do we part.”

But even though we know in our hearts that we can love just as deeply with the same kind of long-term commitment, there isn’t the same kind of physical proof all around us. And that kind of sucks.

Finally: a same-sex female couple we can all look up to.

What I think is really special about today’s podcast is that you will get a really deep inside view of what a super evolved same-sex female couple looks like.

They’re not even remotely old, but they’ve got deep wisdom and amazing practices that keep bringing them closer to each other and more deeply in love. And in today’s podcast we get to hear all about it.

            Who is she?

My guest on the podcast is Kelly Madrone, a writer and an outspoken social-justice and animal-welfare advocate.

Kelly and her wife, Mala, are one of the most evolved, emotionally mature same-sex female couples I’ve ever come across. That’s why I invited Kelly on my podcast to have a little lesbian chat with me. I’m excited to give you all an inside look at their amazing relationship from Kelly’s perspective.

            Kelly’s tricks.

During the interview Kelly shares with us some of her really powerful strategies including:

            • the trick to being comfortable being single (so you can hold out and not settle before meeting THE ONE)
            • the trick to not putting up with flakey behavior from women you’re dating
            • the trick to handling a woman when she’s angry so that you don’t end up hurting each others’ feelings
            • the trick to starting uncomfortable conversations with the person you’re dating in a way that won’t make her reactive
            • So if you’re single and dating and want some amazing strategies that will help you find and keep love, then you won’t want to miss this interview.

And if you’re in a committed relationship, you’ll get a lot out of this as well.

I hope you enjoy this interview with Kelly Madrone!

            • Same-Sex Female Relationships (Between Great Apes) With Dr. Frans De Waal

The TRUE Place Where Females Are In Charge And Have Orgies With Each Other All Day Long…

What if I told you that our closest relative in the animal kingdom (with whom we share, literally 99% of our DNA) is a great ape that lives in a female-dominated society where the females band together against the males and have sex with each other all the time?

              Would you believe me?

This sounds like hippie-feminist utopia fiction, too good to be true.

But actually, what I’m talking about is very real. The great ape that I’m talking about is called The Bonobo. The bonobos are our closest relatives in the animal kingdom.

They live in matriarchal societies where the females dominate over the males. And they have sex with each other at almost every occasion, all throughout the day.

              True story. Not joking.

We share 99% of the same DNA with the bonobos.

And on today’s podcast I interview the world’s leading primatologist, Dr. Fanz De Waal to ask all about them.

              Our “Inner Ape”

              See, human beings are primates.

We are one of the great apes. So everything that Dr. De Waal has discovered about primates brings us deep insights about our own human nature.

Our behavior is shaped by our genes and our genes are 99% as the great apes.

              Human Nature

We might not realize this, but we are the way we are (in most respects) because we evolved to be this way. We evolved to act the way we act, to think the way we think, to want the things we want and to feel the things we feel.

Human nature is exactly that – it’s our nature.

No matter how cultured we think we are, there is a biological basis for the way we behave. We are born with certain hard-wiring that developed for the survival of our species and we don’t even realize how deeply we’re driven by these structures.

              Learning from the master…

My guest on today’s podcast, Dr. Frans De Waal, is famous for taking what he learns from observing primates and applying it to understanding human behavior and human societies.

Because we are basically the same as apes, in terms of our genes. We share 99% of our DNA with the bonobos and also the chimpanzees (our other closest relative.)

And along with the 99% of our DNA, we also share social behavior, social strategies and basic drives.

The chimps and bonobos have relationships a lot like ours. The way they fight, the way they make up, the way they organize in groups… We’re very similar, as you will hear.

What does this have to do with lesbian dating?

Let’s not forget: this is a podcast about women’s relationships with other women.

So during this interview I was focused on the ways female primates relate to each other.

In this interview I ask Dr. De Waal all about female bonobos and female chimpanzees and their relationships with each other and what women like us can learn about ourselves and our relationships from this perspective.

These are questions I had been dying to ask him every since I discovered his work.

We talk about female friendships, female fights and female power. And (in case you were wondering) Dr. De Waal also shares with us the most popular position female bonobos use when they have sex with each other.

              Don’t miss out.

Dr. Frans De Waal is a Dutch/American biologist and primatologist who is known for his studies of primate behavior and for drawing parallels between primate and human behavior, including morals and politics and making up after fights, and even culture.

As he tells us on the podcast, he’s the scientist who discovered that animals reconcile after fights, just the way humans do (or, just the way we humans DON’T do, for those of us who hold grudges, which some chimps and bonobos actually do, which you’ll hear about on this podcast.)

            • The Truth About Female Desire With Dr. Jennifer Verdolin

              What all women want…

What’s the number one thing all female animals in nature are attracted to?

And does the answer to this question teach us anything about how women like us can have more success meeting and attracting the women we want to date?

Well my guest on this podcast shares these answers with us and her insights are going to surprise you.

My guest, Dr. Jennifer Verdolin, is an animal behaviorist who specializes in social and mating behavior across all species.

What does human behavior and animal behavior have in common?

You know, the thing about our behavior (human behavior) is that we can easily take it for granted. Because we’re too close to it.

You know how we can look in the mirror sometimes and notice that our hair is too long (even though we didn’t notice it growing until that moment)?

It’s like how most fish probably don’t realize that they’re swimming in water.

When we’re too close to something we can’t see it clearly enough to properly examine it and/or understand it.

And that’s what human behavior is like for us.

What we don’t notice about ourselves…

In order for us to see and examine our own behavior we need more perspective.

And that’s what’s so cool about animal behaviorists. They learn about human nature by studying nature itself (the animals in nature) and drawing parallels.

By looking at other creatures’ behaviors these scientists get a broader perspective of what ranges of behavior are possible. And by seeing what some animals do differently they get to reflect upon aspects of human behavior that we might otherwise miss, the way a fish might miss the fact that it’s swimming in water.

What does this have to do with lesbian dating?

Do you want to learn about the ways that females evolved to behave around other females throughout the natural world?

Do you want to learn about female strategies for attracting mates that we evolved with?

Do you want to learn how females get attention in nature?

Do you want to learn about getting attention from females in nature?

Do you want to know how all of this applies to women like us when we meet a woman we like?

These are questions I had been dying to ask an animal behaviorist for a long time and I was very excited to finally get to have this conversation.

What did talking to her teach me about lesbian relationships?

During this interview you’ll learn from Dr. Verdolin:

              • the number one thing that all females in nature are attracted to (and it’s probably not what you think)
              • how social status works in nature and when women are judging us
              • the secret strategy for how females can become dominant in society (because there is a certain strategy used by all female animals who have achieved female-dominated social arrangements and Dr. Verdolin tells us what that is!)
              • The truth about female competition and what we women share in common with other species when it comes to competition between females

              • How To “Call In” Your Soulmate with Katherine Woodward Thomas

                I have a question…

Why do you think you’re still single?

Why do you think you and your soulmate haven’t found each other yet?

Do you think the world is too big and she’s living in some far-away city?

Do you think you have different groups of friends and you’re never in the same place at the same time?

Do you think you always pick the wrong women?

Do you think you’re too picky?

Do you worry that maybe you’re not enough in some way?

For every challenge there is a solution…

Whatever you think might be standing in your way — what if I told you there was a beautiful, streamlined 7-week process for turning this around?

The guest on this episode is Katherine Woodward Thomas, the author of a book called “Calling in “The One:” 7 Weeks to Attract the Love of Your Life”

                It worked for me.

I read this book when I was single and I used it to find and attract love into my life.

Today I have the relationship that I do thanks to the things I learned from Katherine Woodward Thomas.

                Learn the secrets.

                In this interview Katherine

                • shares with us some of the key principles of her world-famous process for attracting love into your life
                • reveals the biggest obstacle to love for anyone who is single and lonely
                • gives us tools for how to get ourselves out of the downward spiral of disappointment when things don’t work out or we get rejected by someone we like, and
                • calls me out on a couple of my own blind-spots and gives me tools for being an even better coach (which was a huge thrill for me because she’s arguably the love coach I respect most in this world.)
                • I’m going to be very blunt and say that what Katherine Woodward Thomas teaches can change your life forever and help you find and connect with the woman of your dreams, the way she did for me.

                • Dating Mean Girls with Rosalind Wiseman

                  no-repeat;center top;;

                  auto

                  List fears

Girls are Mean… and then we end up dating them.

Were girls ever mean to you when you were younger?

Was there ever a time when your best friend stopped talking to you and you didn’t know who you could trust?

Did you ever experience a group of girls acting “cliquey” and excluding you?

                  Here’s the thing…

Female-female interactions are central to the lives of lesbians and bisexuals. Relationships with women are our primary relationships.

The friendships we had when we were little girls are our earliest relationships with other females (where we built our foundations and expectations.) Yet not all of those early friendships were very nice or wholesome.

                  Mean Girls.

Almost all females everywhere had experiences (when we were younger) where girls were mean to us.

And it turns out that the girl friendships we had during adolescence (and the lessons we learned from those friendships) has a major impact on how we handle ourselves around other women as adults and also how we handle ourselves in romantic relationships.

                  This is a big deal.

This is true even for straight women.

But for those of us who grow up to be lesbian or bisexual, our primary relationships are with females.

For those of us who still carry scars and wounds from mean-girl experiences during adolescence, those wounds can be getting in the way of our ability to attract the kinds of women we want to date and build healthy relationships with.

That’s why for women like us it’s extra important to examine our history with girls and to really explore questions like:

                  • how we relate to other females

                  • how much we feel we can trust other females

                  • how well we can maintain healthy boundaries with other females

                  • how confident we can be among other females

The “bible” of girl cliques and girl conflicts…

Rosalind Wiseman is one of the world’s leading experts on girl friendships and girl cliques and girl conflicts and mean-girl behavior. Her New York Times Bestselling book Queen Bees and Wannabes is basically the bible when it comes to these topics. And actually, this book was the basis of the 2004 cult classic movie “Mean Girls” starring Lindsay Lohan that was written by Tina Fey.

As Wiseman puts it, “girl friendships are often intense, confusing, frustrating and humiliating.”

I invited Rosalind Wiseman to be a guest on my podcast so I could ask her questions about these things the perspective of an adult lesbian because I think this topic is really important for women like us who want to attract and date other women without feeling traumatized by upsetting mean-girl experiences from our past.

Competition, coping skills and curious straight girls…

I think you’re really going to enjoy this interview.

We cover a lot of ground exploring the way females relate to each other.

In the interview we talk about:

                    • Competition between girls (and, later in life, between women) and how this competition harms our confidence in ways we might not realize

                    • The bad coping skills we tend to learn in our early friendships with girls that affect our relationships later in life in ways that most of us don’t realize

                    • The way our early friendships with other girls can habitualize us to sacrifice our personal boundaries in ways most of us don’t realize

                    • Wiseman’s funny perspective from watching her queer female friends get hit on by curious straight girls
