The A’s ran headfirst into a buzzsaw Friday night as Bryan Woo delivered one of his finest starts of the season, holding them to just one hit over seven dominant innings in Seattle’s 3-2 victory. Brent Rooker provided the only damage against Woo with a solo shot in the first, but the right-hander didn’t allow another knock while striking out seven and showcasing ace-level command. Seattle’s bats eventually broke through against A’s pitching, with Eugenio Suárez, Josh Naylor, and Jorge Polanco each going deep to turn a deadlocked game into a Mariners advantage. Naylor’s seventh-inning blast marked his 100th career homer, a milestone celebrated with a bat flip that stung just as much as the scoreboard. 

But the A’s didn’t go quietly. Facing All-Star closer Andrés Muñoz in the ninth, Oakland loaded the bases after rookie Jacob Wilson’s RBI single cut the deficit to 3-2. Lawrence Butler drew a walk to push the go-ahead run into scoring position, but Darrell Hernaiz’s shallow fly and JJ Bleday’s strikeout ended the rally. For the Mariners, the win snapped a five-game skid and extended their home dominance, while the A’s were left staring at another narrow loss where the fight was there, but the big hit wasn’t.
