Woody Kincaid Shares His Journey: From Skater Shoes To American Records & The Olympics

Listen Later

The podcast I've been wanting to make happen for months: The Woody Kincaid Special.

Woody Kincaid is a passionate competitor who has accomplished many incredible things in his career. The first time I remember hearing Woody's name was on September 10, 2019, when he became the eighth man in American history to break 13 minutes in the 5k by clocking 12:58.10. Since that day on a brisk and rainy evening in Portland, Oregon, Woody has gone on to etch his name further into the history books. As his Instagram boi alludes, he has literally won the U.S. Trials 10k. He also made the U.S. World Championship team last year in the 5k. Woody ran a new American Record time of 12:51.61 in the 5k this past January, signaling to the world that he's not messing around in 2023. In the words of Woody from this conversation, "The job is never done."

This conversation with Woody was wide-ranging and full of serious topics, such as the lessons he's learned from being in this sport to more comical subjects like putting too much pepper on a Banh Mi sandwich for Gordon Ramsay. We dive into his upbringing in the sport, the 12:58 race, and the special camp that led into it, winning the U.S. Olympic Trials, dealing with negativity and outside noise, what he thinks he can accomplish before he hangs up the spikes, and more.

Woody is a very perspicacious speaker who is incredibly thoughtful about his responses. This trait made this conversation particularly fascinating and impactful. I'm confident you'll walk away from this conversation a better version of yourself and a bigger fan of Woody Kincaid.
