The FIFA World Cup is soccer’s greatest tournament. It is the Olympics of the football world. Right now, for the first time, the tournament is being held in the Arab world. But rather than celebration, from the very first announcement of Qatar as the host country, the event has been shrouded in controversy.
But the efforts of the Qatari government to paint a rosy picture of their country has been overshadowed. Human rights complaints, labour abuses and a horrific record on LGBT rights have all been stories the government would rather the world did not see. The first Qatari to declare himself openly gay via the media is one of those determined to raise the issue of Qatar’s shocking LGBT record. That man – Dr. Nasser Mohamed, or Nas as he prefers to be called – tells his story in this World Wide Wave podcast.
Sign the petition to tell FIFA and Qatar that love is not a crime.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has dominated the news since February. But for those living in the warzone, it has dominated their lives. Lives and livelihoods have been lost, homes destroyed and life’s simple pleasures have been replaced by a daily fight for survival.
The LGBT community is not immune. Members of our rainbow family have gone to fight, others have fled for safety and the progress on LGBT rights in Ukraine has come to a halt. But you will hear first hand in this podcast of the spirit of hope and defiance inside Ukraine as we speak with the Executive Director of Kyiv Pride, Lenny Emson.

Sex, aristocracy and the British government. No, it’s got nothing to do with Boris Johnson. A hidden story of English history has been uncovered. But what turns it from an interesting story into a scandal is that the sex is homosexual, the aristocracy is a Lord and it happened right at the time of the coronation of a King. Plus…it’s a 100% true story.
It is a story of power and privilege. A battle between purity and sodomy in 19th century England. This once hidden story has been unearthed and is now explained by Australian historian and author, Peter Jordaan in a trilogy of books under the title A Secret Between Gentlemen. Peter joins us in the studio tonight.

It’s hard to think of a worse place in the world to be queer than Iraq. Aside from the criminalisation of homosexuality and the death penalty under Sharia laws, LGBT people have to deal with violence in the family, armed vigilantes enforcing so-called morality laws and discrimination from a society that doesn’t understand them – and doesn’t want to.
Human Rights Watch in partnership with IraQueer have documented stories from LGBT people in Iraq. In a challenging read, they have produced the report – Everyone Wants Me Dead: Killings, Abductions, Torture, and Sexual Violence against LGBT People by Armed Groups in Iraq. In this podcast we hear from report author Rasha Younes from Human Rights Watch and brave activist Amir Ashour from IraQueer.
