Whilst LGBT pride happens 365 days a year, there is a big focus in June in northern hemisphere countries. Pride began as a movement with a protest – the famed Stonewall riots in New York City – in response to police intimidation of the community. Back then, Pride had a very clear purpose. It was a protest. But amidst all the parties and parades of today, has Pride lost its purpose?
International LGBT advocacy organisation – Outright Action International – hosted a forum in “Pride month” about Pride around the world. Joining Neela Ghoshal, the Senior Director of Law and Policy at Outright was:
Juma Wasili from Nyasa Rainbow Alliance in Malawi;Alexus D’Marco, the Executive Director of the United Caribbean Trans Network; andViktorija Kolbesnikova from Vilnius Queer Festival in Lithuania. The post Pride Around the World appeared first on World Wide Wave.
