Wrestling Art with Chris Things

Episode 59 is here pals! Yes, I'm back after missing last week due to the general insanity of preparing for my latest solo art show (that just happened to take place LAST NIGHT) at my much-loved Scratch Bar. In this special solo episode I take you into the frantic, barely comprehendible ramblings of a wrestling-art-dude who's brain is melting by the minute. I talk all things about the lead up to this solo show. The good, the challenging & everything in-between. Take it as a snapshot of my current state of mind having finally put this 16 piece art show out into the world. All completed mostly over the past two weeks. We also had a really fun ALL-LUCHA edition of our Wrestling Club on the evening where I played some of my favourite lucha matches. I've included my intro speech and a little run-down of the playlist in question at the end of this episode.

P.S. If you're in the area, please don't hesitate to come on down to Brisbane's Scratch Bar during the month of February to check out Chris Things 2025: "Los Luchadores vs Alien Invaders!"

Enjoy!!

Episode 58 is here pals! It's "Match of the Week" time with the 'Young-Boy'; Keepin it Strong Style's own Josh Smith - chattin' 3 quite delightful Professional Wrestling matches & each of their unique charms. I may be bed-ridden with man-flu but that ain't stopping this MOTW train! It's Barbaro Cavernario vs Mascara Dorada, Shingo vs Takeshita & of course, Kenny Omega vs Gabe Kidd! What a trio!! We also have a lovely chat about Josh's recent surprise marriage & of course, some very mandatory "latest in New Japan" goss-chats. It was such a fun time, I almost forgot how sick & croaky I am!

In my 'World of Chris-Things' intro monologue I talk the latest in getting my new art shed set up & my big upcoming solo art show at the Scratch; Chris Things 2025: "Los Luchadores vs Alien Invaders".

Enjoy!!

Episode 57 is here pals! It's a "Match of the Week/Critter-Nature-Noises" Edition of the show w/ my good pal, Richard of Video Plant - chattin' two quite unique & highly contrasting matches that we both enjoyed quite a bit! It's the amazing final to CMLL's 2024 ‘Torneo La Leyenda Azul' tournament that was Mistico vs Hechicero & the semi final to BJW's 2023 'Saikyou Tag League'; The Astronauts vs the Crazy Lovers!

I always love chatting to Richard about the wrassles & this is no different! We go quite in depth on both matches, along with all things CMLL, Japanese Wrestling & even some Joshi chats! I really had such a blast here with all of the free-flowing wrasslin' nerd conversation you can handle.

In my 'World of Chris-Things' intro monologue I talk a bit about all the things I have coming up for a pretty full-on start for 2025!

Everyone be sure to be following Richard's @Video.Plant for all of the coolest cult cinema & VHS collecting goodness. And stay tuned for his upcoming FANCY NEW WEBSITE!

P.S. Buyer-beware for the non-stop bug noises on this episode. It was my first from the new nature property & I don't quite have the studio properly et up just yet. That means lots of atmospheric cicada & toad nature noises! My apologies & rest assured it will hopefully be improved for next week.

Enjoy!!

Episode 56 is here pals! It's another special little solo edition as we start 2025 - looking back at 2024 & reflecting on all the cool things! In hindsight, it's been a pretty momentous year for the Chris Things. Big changes for the new year; farewells to old surrounds & welcoming new ones. I also have some VERY exciting announcements for what's coming up in 2025! So stoked to have all of y'all along for the ride. Just a little one-sided rambling chat between pals to kick off the new year. I hope everyone out there is doing well & has an absolutely wonderful 2025!

Enjoy!!

Episode 55 is here pals! It's the "Match of the Week" Edition w/ the esteemed Unkle of Beeks back for another big ol' TRIPLE-HEADER, chatting 3 matches that I felt were all bloody delightful! Those matches being; Ultimo Guerrero vs LA Park, Vader & Bam Bam Bigelow vs The Steiners & Eddie Guerrero vs Low-Ki! ...We actually had a difference of opinion on one of them! Oh my!! Which one is it?! We also chat a bunch of nonsense, as well as some important, real-life things that are not nonsense at all.

In my 'World of Chris-Things' intro monologue I chat about nearing the end of a slightly maddening December schedule & just generally how I'm feeling as we near the end of 2024.

Enjoy!!

It's Episode 54 & another special solo edition, with some in-person audio from our latest WRESTLING CLUB event last week at the Scratch + I take you behind the wizard's curtain once more! As we've somehow gotten to 1 YEAR of my travelling art-carny life of hawking my art-wares all across this fair great southern land! I discuss everything that goes into the in-person events part of my art life; the planning, the logistics & most importantly, THE FEELS! I figure this might be interesting for any listeners who might be considering selling their art at your local markets, but also anyone who has an interest in what this life looks like.

For the Wrestling Club portion of the episode, I was greatly appreciative of my mate & card-carrying club-member, Joe for recording some of the proceedings for us. We hear from previous episode friends-of the-show Joe, Faz & Bradley in what ended up what I felt to be a very fun evening had by all.

Enjoy!!

Episode 53; is here pals! Yes, our "Wrestling Art Curator" special is BACK already! That being our special interview series focusing on the art practices of rad wrestling-artists! I'm SO STOKED to have another returning artist-guest & a super cool dude back on the show to chop it up! It's Michigan-based artist, Lil Petey Puro / @Gotch_Style_Bong_Rips! This super-talented & unique fellow wrasslin' art-dudes' weird, lowbrow, skate vibes wrestling-art illustrations always make my eyes so darned happy!

A super fun, free-flowing, all-over-the-place chat is had. From all of our different, very similar wrasslin' interests, to some process stuff, outlooks, cool stuff along the journey & everything in between. Petey is just such a good dude! ECW, All Japan, 2000s WCW, Misfits & of course, TERRY FUNK! What a time!!

In my intro monologue, I chat about last night's Wrestling Club at The Scratch the upcoming Oddities Expo & a big, exciting upcoming change of scenery!

Episode 52 is here pals! It's our Chris Things Art "Match of the Week" Edition w/ my pal Joe - talking two absolutely delightful matches that officially mark FIFTY TWO WEEKS & episodes of this little ol' podcast!

We're talking the matches & illustrations that were 1993 WCW's Barry Windham vs 2 Cold Scorpio NWA World Heavyweight Championship match & 1982's All Japan first ever singles match of Stan Hansen vs Terry Funk. We also chat a bunch of nonsense that included an extended film appreciation discussion that I quite enjoyed!

In my 'World of Chris-Things' intro monologue I chat about my cool experience of being a recent guest on Luis Hernandez's rad Spanish-language Desde La Tercera Cuerda podcast & all of my latest comings & goings. Including FINALLY finishing sending out all of my recent M.O.T.W. YEAR ONE books! Enjoy!!

It's Episode 51 & another special solo edition of our Chris Things Art "Match of the Week" Series where this time, I'm taking you behind the highly mysterious wizard's curtain to talk all about the art-process behind my weekly M.O.T.W. illustrations! I figured this might be an interesting one for the folks who sometimes ask me how I do the things. I chat about both the art itself and my process of watching the matches, picking the right moment, right through to posting said illustrations & writing the accompanying captions while eating bagels. The more I think about it, this one has the potential to be super-interesting for some & incredibly boring for others. YOU DECIDE which boat you're on!

Enjoy!!
