Wrestling Art with Chris Things

Episode 39 is here pals! It's our Chris Things Art "Match of the Week" Edition w/ the esteemed Unkle of Beeks back for a 'DOUBLE-HEADER' episode talking the tremendous combination that is Big Van VADER vs Riki Choshu (from 1989 New Japan) & Masato Tanaka vs Muhammad Yone (from earlier this year in NOAH)! Two matches linked by their truly beautiful level of gruff ass-beating & general violence. We also chat a whole bunch of nonsense as you'd expect - including another dog run-in, this time actually peeing on Jeremey's bed MID-SHOW!!

In my 'World of Chris-Things' intro monologue I chat about the terrifying amount of things that I have coming up on my Chris Things Art events schedule over the next week. Terrifying but exciting times friends!

AUDIO NOTE: A 'SEVERE' audio warning on this one pals. As I was recording the bulk of this episode in a bit of a rush (with all of the things I have going on right now), I unfortunately did not discover until after recording that our weird static issue came back on my audio for most of the M.O.T.W. chat. I'm really sorry about it friends! I tried to edit as much of it out as I could but a significant amount remains. If that kind of thing annoys you, please feel free to give this one a skip. It's really unfortunate because other than that, I think this might be one of our best episodes yet!

Enjoy!!

Episode 38; is here pals! The latest in our "Wrestling Art Curator" special-edition interview series focusing on the art practices of rad wrestling-artists! I'm super stoked today to be talking to the super talented bloke that is 'travisrt'/Travis Thornton!

I really dig Travis' work so darn much! We have a great, free-flowing chat all about his stuff, his "style", how he got into the 'wrestling art' for fun, the idea of monetising a hobby, fun commission work & sweet wrasslin' mullets! Such a blast!!

In my intro monologue, I chat about hawking my art at a local Brisbane indie wrestling show, the super exciting upcoming Cream of the Crop Sydney Wrestling Art show & the launch of my very own 'Wrestling-Club with Chris Things'!

Enjoy!!

Episode 37 is here pals! It's our Chris Things Art "Match of the Week" Edition w/ my dear friend (& fellow American Dragon aficionado), Bradley, talking the INCREDIBLE Bryan Danielson vs Shingo bout - not from this past week, but 14 years ago in Dragon Gate USA! So here's the deal, we watched the DGUSA edition as a primer for the big AEW rematch & for a variety of reasons (as we discuss), the Forbidden Door edition just couldn't reach the lofty heights of the original. So this ended up a more 'compare & contrast' look at both. Still two VERY fine professional wrestling matches might I say! Hopefully this is an interesting listen for anyone who's caught both of these matches. Chock full of glowing praise for 2 of the very best wrasslers still to this day in the American Dragon & Shingo Takagi! We also have some amusing nonsense sidebars such as a look at Ring of Honor's tin guardrails of death (that I'm still very fond of) & Robert Rodiriguez' Mariachi Trilogy.

In my intro "Latest in the world of Chris Things" segment, I talk being very excited for the upcoming Forge Forward Mini Mall Art-Market here in Brisbane, some fun commission work & some more of my Way of the Blade illustration flashbacks - including the very first illustration that I did for the book!

Enjoy!!

Episode 36 is here pals! It's our Chris Things Art "Match of the Week" Edition w/ 'Best Mate David', talking the amazing llaveo/Lancashire catch dream-match that was Zack Sabre Jr. vs Rey Hechicero from June 22nd, 2024 in CMLL. We RAVE about this match till the cows come home. Quite in-depth this week! We ramble much nonsense but also some interesting tidbit tangents such as CMLL building architecture & building maintenance standards.

In my intro "Latest in the world of Chris Things" segment, I talk some tips on enjoying the making & 'romancing' your art, my recent Great Artist Market experience over the weekend & some of my recent Way of the Blade illustration flashbacks.

Enjoy!!

Episode 35 is here pals! It's our Chris Things Art "Match of the Week" Edition w/ the esteemed Unkle of Beeks back for 'TRIPLE-HEADER' episode talking the ever-eclectic combination of a legendary kaiju-monster battle of behemoths in Andre the Giant vs Stan Hansen (from 1981 NJPW), a lucha masterclass of Hechicero vs Blue Panther (from earlier this month in CMLL) & a joshi-classic of Bull Nakano vs Kyoko Inoue (from 1991 AJW)! We talk all about these great matches & much nonsense - including an excellent Taz vs Jordynne Grace interaction & a previous run-in that Jeremey had with the Tazmaniac!

In my 'World of Chris-Things' intro monologue I chat about taking a little break (& the accompanying guilt of doing so) & my busy upcoming events month for July. I also squeeze in a fun little recent Chicago Wrestling anecdote from friend of the show, our roving reporter, Jon Craft!

Enjoy!!

Episode 34; is here pals! The latest in our "Wrestling Art Curator" special-edition interview series focusing on the art practices of rad wrestling-artists! I'm way excited today to be talking to the extremely talented gentleman that is Shining Wizard Designs/Matt Charlton!

Matt's work is just so wonderful & I've been a fan of his for quite a while! Just an INSANE output of top-notch work!! A positively LOVELY chat is had all about making wrestling-art, thinking about wrestling-art, the 'value' of said art, trying to keep up with our own expectations & self-criticisms & attempting to juggle this thing with the other parts of our lives.

In my intro monologue, I chat about being a bit of a hypocrite, 'enjoying' the making process & my exciting new Chris Things Art Mailing List idea.

Enjoy!!

Audio Note: So sorry but once again, it appears that my audio still had a bit of static issues for the chat portion of this episode. I edited out as much as I could but some do remain. Please accept my apologies! Hopefully this doesn't stop you from enjoying a really nice chat.

Episode 33 is here pals! It's our Chris Things Art "Match of the Week" Edition w/ the esteemed Unkle of Beeks back for another 'DOUBLE-HEADER' episode talking the delightfully odd combination of El Hijo Del Dr. Wagner Jr. vs KENOH for the GHC Heavyweight Championship from February of this year in NOAH as well as Terry Funk vs Abdullah the Butcher from December of 1978 in All Japan! We talk all about both of these great, (very different) matches & a good deal of nonsense - including the fantastic exploits of Silver King - whilst keeping to a tidy, approximately 1 hour run-time!

In my 'World of Chris-Things' intro monologue I chat about my recent solo show opening night and some upcoming art-initiatives coming out of it.

Enjoy!!

Audio Note: Unfortunately through today's episode my audio had some weird static coming in & out at times which I sadly discovered AFTER recording. So if that sounds too annoying for your ear-holes, please sit this one out. If not, please proceed with my apologies but know that I very much appreciate your commitment!

Episode 32; is here friends! So in lieu of being way too busy to do a normal episode in my final week before the big solo show at Scratch, I thought I'd do another special little solo edition for you! Having just hanged the show this morning, I am quite tired, giddy & generally a bit delirious so felt that would be the perfect thing to capture in audio-form!! In the pint-sized episode I take you behind the artist curtain of what goes into prepping for a solo art show, some of the considerations & my general thought-process behind it. A rambling, semi-coherent mess. Maybe you'll find some of it interesting? Who's to say?

Enjoy!!

Episode 31 is here pals! It's our Chris Things Art "Match of the Week" Edition w/ 'Best Mate David', talking the incredible Grumpy Old Man battle that was Genichiro Tenryu vs Riki Choshu from Choshu's short-lived World Japan promotion. We talk all about this delightfully gruff bout, my illustration of said match, as well as a bit about the rest this wonderfully strange card from Fighting of World Japan Pro-Wrestling's second ever show. Including the ROAD WARRIORS & BIG VITO! We also talk a myriad of nonsense, not limited to discussions of whether Tenryu's curls are natural & Riki's preferred beach-wear of choice.

In my intro "Latest in the world of Chris Things" segment, I talk about our recent competition winner along with a glimpse into the somewhat stressful period of prepping for a solo art show!

Enjoy!!

Episode 30 is here pals! It's our Chris Things Art "Match of the Week" Edition w/ good ol' Unkle Beek talking the bloody delightful match that was Big Bossman A.K.A. 'Big Bubba' & 'Dr. Death' Steve Williams vs The 'Holy Demon Army' of Toshiaki Kawada & Akira Taue. We also talk a heck of a lot of nonsense (including my tale of making my parents go to Kawada's Ramen Store in Japan to get a picture with him for my birthday) a swell as Seńor Beek's latest developments on from a nasty breakup & some nice mental health chats between fellas.

In my opening monologue I chat 'art-tabling' at Lucha Fantastica in Melbourne, getting sick between shows, turning it around for the following week in Geelong & now preparing for a big solo show at The Scratch at the end of the month!

Enjoy!!
