Today, I'm joined by the incredible author, Alka Joshi. She was born in India and raised in the US from the age of 9. She has a BA from Stanford University and an MFA from the College of Arts. At the age of 62, Alka Joshi left her corporate advertising career to become an author. She published her debut novel, The Henna Artist, and it soon rose to the top of the bestselling lists and was featured in the Reese Witherspoon book club. The Henna Artist was shortlisted for the Center for Fiction First Novel Prize and is being developed into an episodic series of TV. The sequel, The Secret Keeper of Jaipur, continues the incredible storyline from The Henna Artist that caught the world’s attention. 

Alka’s story is about embracing your cultural identity and sharing it with the world, which is something all of us Amigas should feel empowered to do. Throughout this episode, Alka explains her background growing up in an Indian family, the familial inspiration for her books, why she believes in arming yourself with information, and so much more.
