Twins 5, Tigers 4 – Kepler hits slam, Urshela and Twins walk off Tigers 5-4
Max Kepler hit an early grand slam, and Gio Urshela’s infield single in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the Minnesota Twins a 5-4 victory over the Detroit Tigers. Urshela hit a grounder toward Tigers shortstop Javier Báez, who couldn’t make a play. That allowed Kepler — who launched his slam in the first inning — to score the winning run. Emilio Pagan pitched two scoreless innings of relief to earn the win. Kepler opened the scoring with his third career slam, and the third of the year for the Twins.

Cubs 7, Reds 4 – Happ, Wisdom hit 3-run HRs, Cubs top Aquino, Reds 7-4
Ian Happ and Patrick Wisdom hit three-run homers and the Chicago Cubs beat the Cincinnati Reds 7-4 despite two home runs by Aristides Aquino. Happ drove in Seiya Suzuki with a fourth-inning double before Wisdom hit his team-leading 10th homer. With Chicago holding a 4-3 lead with two outs in the seventh, Happ drove the first pitch he saw from reliever Luis Cessa into the right-field bleachers.

MLB – MLB suspends Yanks’ Donaldson for 1 game for ‘Jackie’ remark
Major League Baseball has suspended Josh Donaldson for one game after the New York Yankees slugger made multiple references to Jackie Robinson while talking to White Sox star Tim Anderson on Saturday. Donaldson also was fined an undisclosed amount. The punishment was announced Monday by Michael Hill, the senior vice president of on-field operations for MLB. Donaldson has elected to appeal the penalty. Shortly before the suspension was announced, the Yankees said Donaldson had been put on the COVID-19 injured list. AL East-leading New York is slated to open a three-game series against Baltimore, and then head to Tampa Bay for a four-game set beginning on Thursday.

IIHF – Denmark stuns Canada at hockey worlds, Czechs beat US
Denmark beat Canada for the first time in a 3-2 upset win at the world ice hockey championship in Finland. Sebastian Dahm’s 29 saves helped Denmark to hold on to stun Canada and move into contention for a place in the quarterfinals.  Canada can no longer qualify as the top seeded team in Group A and will need to beat France on Tuesday to be sure of reaching the last eight. Denmark plays Slovakia needing to avoid a loss in regulation.  The United States must wait to qualify for the quarterfinals after a bruising 1-0 loss to the Czech Republic in both teams’ second-to-last game of group play.

NFL – Autopsy: Steelers QB Haskins was drunk when fatally struck
An autopsy report shows that Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins was legally drunk when he was fatally struck by a dump truck on a Florida highway last month. The Broward County Medical Examiner said in its report released Monday that Haskins’ blood-alcohol content was more than twice the legal level for driving when he was struck April 9. The 24-year-old former Ohio State star had run out of gas on Interstate 595 near Fort Lauderdale about dawn. He told a companion he was going to find a gas station. The dump truck driver told investigators Haskins stepped in front of him as he traveled in the center lane.

NFL – QB Nick Foles reunites with Frank Reich, signs with Colts
Nick Foles is reuniting with Frank Reich. That combination helped the Philadelphia Eagles win the 2017 NFL title. Reich now is head coach of Indianapolis, and the Colts signed free agent quarterback Foles on Monday to back up Matt Ryan. The Colts traded with Atlanta for Ryan earlier this offseason. Foles got a two-year deal after spending the past two seasons in Chicago, playing in only one game in 2021 despite the Bears still paying him under a four-year, $88 million contract he got from Jacksonville in 2019. The Bears released the 10-year veteran on May 1.

NFL – AP source: Commanders procure Va. land for possible stadium
A person with knowledge of the situation tells The Associated Press the Washington Commanders have procured land in Virginia for what could be a potential site of the NFL team’s next stadium. The Commanders agreed to pay approximately $100 million for 200 acres of land in Prince William County and are still considering other locations in the District of Columbia, Maryland and Virginia. The Commanders’ lease at FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland, expires in 2027. Owner Dan Snyder and Co. have been looking at potential sites in D.C., Maryland and Virginia.

NFL – Stafford, Rams easing back to work after Super Bowl win
Matthew Stafford had an offseason injection in his elbow to quell an unspecified minor injury that nagged him throughout the Los Angeles Rams’ run to the Super Bowl. He didn’t throw serious passes during organized team activities Monday, and he might not do so until training camp. Stafford still believes he needs to get plenty of work done while the Rams begin their preparations to chase a second ring. Stafford thinks he can improve, and he also realizes he needs time to form a bond with new receiver Allen Robinson. With the regular-season opener against Buffalo still 3 1/2 months away, Stafford has plenty of time.

Tennis – French Open – Djokovic wins at French
Novak Djokovic has won his first Grand Slam match in 7 1/2 months. The No. 1-seeded Djokovic opened his title defense at the French Open with a 6-3, 6-1, 6-0 victory in less than two hours over Yoshihito Nishioka. He improved to 18-0 for his career in the first round at Roland Garros. Djokovic, who turned 35 on Sunday, is pursuing a third title in Paris and a 21st Grand Slam trophy overall, which would tie him with Rafael Nadal for the men’s record.  Naomi Osaka suffered a straight-set loss to 20-year-old American Amanda Anisimova. The former No. 1 player said afterward she is leaning toward skipping Wimbledon.  Rafael Nadal and all of his aches and pains reached the second round of the French Open. The 13-time champion at Roland Garros beat Jordan Thompson 6-2, 6-2, 6-2 in the first round.

CFL – CFL players reject labor deal, urge more negotiations
Canadian Football League players have rejected the new collective bargaining agreement with the league. The players’ union confirmed the deal had been voted down in a memo to its members on Monday night. The CFL Players’ Association says in the memo that a new deal could be reached “if the league is prepared to resolve the outstanding issues quickly.” The tentative deal was reached last Wednesday, four days after players with seven of the league’s nine teams went on strike. It was the second work stoppage in league history and first since 1974.

Rookie Alex Faedo allowed two runs in 5 1/3 innings for his first major league win and Miguel Cabrera had an RBI double as the Detroit Tigers beat the Cleveland Guardians 4-2. Faedo struck out two in his fourth appearance since being called up from Triple-A Toledo on May 4. Cabrera’s double in the first scored Robbie Grossman and was the 603rd of his career, tying Cal Ripken Jr. for 16th all-time. Guardians righty Shane Bieber struck out a season-high 10 in seven innings. He gave up six hits and three runs, two of them earned, but remained winless since April 20.

Cubs 5, Diamondbacks 4 – Wisdom, Schwindel homer as Cubs rally past Diamondbacks 5-4
Patrick Wisdom and Frank Schwindel hit consecutive homers against Ian Kennedy in the eighth inning, and the Chicago Cubs beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-4 to avoid a four-game series sweep. Wisdom had a bouncer go just foul right before he connected for his ninth homer, sending a leadoff drive deep to center field. Schwindel then drove a 1-0 pitch from Kennedy into the bleachers in left for his fourth homer. Schwindel and Wisdom also hit back-to-back homers during Chicago’s 7-6 loss on Saturday.

White Sox 3, Yankees 1/White Sox 5, Yankees 0 – Anderson’s HR hushes Yankees, lifts Chisox to twinbill sweep
The White Sox took the opener of their doubleheader by scoring twice off Aroldis Chapman in the ninth inning of a 2-1 decision over the Yankees. AJ Pollock led off the ninth by homering against Chapman, who also gave up a one-out RBI double to Adam Engel. Aaron Judge briefly tied the game for the Yankees by homering off Kendall Graveman with one out in the eighth.  Chicago wrapped up a sweep by scoring five times in the eighth inning of a 5-0 shutout of the Yanks. Tim Anderson capped the rally with a three-run homer following RBI singles by Andrew Vaughn and Reese McGuire. Michael Kopech worked the first seven innings of a combined three-hitter.

MLB – Cubs C Willson Contreras day to day with hamstring injury
Chicago Cubs manager David Ross has praised catcher Willson Contreras for speaking up after he felt some tightness in his right hamstring. Contreras left Saturday’s 7-6 loss to Arizona after he got hurt running the bases in the third inning. Contreras was out of the lineup for the series finale against the Diamondbacks, but he is considered day to day and Ross said it could have been worse. With Contreras’ injury, the Cubs brought up catcher P.J. Higgins from Triple-A Iowa and designated infielder Ildemaro Vargas for assignment.

MLB – Boone: Donaldson shouldn’t make ‘Jackie’ remark to Anderson
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone says slugger Josh Donaldson was wrong to make a remark referencing Jackie Robinson when speaking to White Sox star Tim Anderson. A day after the comment called “racist” by Chicago manager Tony La Russa — an assessment that Anderson agreed with — Major League Baseball continued to investigate. Anderson, one of baseball’s leading Black voices, hit a home run as Chicago swept a doubleheader at Yankee Stadium. Anderson and Donaldson didn’t speak to reporters. Donaldson, who is white, said Saturday he twice called Anderson “Jackie” — as in Robinson, who broke MLB’s color barrier in 1947. He said he’s used the reference in the past with Anderson, who said he viewed himself as a potential modern-day Robinson in a 2019 interview with Sports Illustrated.

Alyssa Thomas and Brionna Jones scored 18 points apiece and the Connecticut Sun breezed to a 92-70 victory over the Indiana Fever. Thomas added six rebounds and six assists for Connecticut (4-1), which jumped out to a 26-15 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Courtney Williams scored 15 and Jonquel Jones pitched in with 13 points and nine boards. Victoria Vivians topped Indiana (2-6) with 15 points, while Emily Engstler scored 11 with eight rebounds.

Sky 82, Mystics 73 – Parker’s triple-double propels Chicago past Washington 82-73
Candace Parker finished with her second career triple-double and the Chicago Sky pulled away in the second half to beat the Washington Mystics 82-73. Parker totaled 16 points, 13 rebounds and picked up a 10th assist on a basket by Allie Quigley with 21.2 seconds remaining. It was the 12th triple-double in WNBA history. Parker joins Houston Comets Hall-of-Famer Sheryl Swoopes as the only two players to accomplish the feat twice. Parker was the sixth player to post a triple-double when she pulled it off in 2017 against the San Antonio Stars.

Golf – PGA – Thomas takes PGA Championship
Justin Thomas has captured the PGA Championship for the second time in five years. Thomas stormed back from seven shots back to win the second Major of the season in a three-hole playoff with Will Zalatoris. Thomas birdied the first two playoff holes and closed with a par.  Thomas began the tournament with back-to-back 67s, despite getting the poor side of the draw. He shot 74 on Saturday to go backward, but he made a back-nine charge on Sunday and birdied the 17th. He closed with a 67 and finished at 5-under 275 over 72 holes.  Zalatoris began the day three back of Mito Pereira. Zalatoris finished a rollercoaster round of 71 to match Thomas.  Pereira squandered a one-shot lead on the 18th when he drove into the creek off the tee and made double bogey.

Indy 500 – Dixon gets pole with record-breaking run
Scott Dixon used a breathtaking run of more than 234 mph to post the fastest Indianapolis 500 pole run in history. The New Zealander will lead the field to green in “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing” for the fifth time in his career. Dixon turned four laps at an average of 234.046 mph around Indianapolis Motor Speedway. His average broke Scott Brayton’s pole-winning record set in 1996. Alex Palou will start next Sunday’s race from the No. 2 spot. It’s the best Palou has qualified in his three Indy starts.

NASCAR – Blaney wins All-Star race, $1M 2 laps after thinking he won
Ryan Blaney had to go two extra laps after thinking he had already won NASCAR’s All-Star race and $1 million. Blaney stayed in front through a green-white-checkered finish after a caution came out just yards before he got to the line the first time Sunday night at Texas. Blaney’s crew was already celebrating the victory in the pit and the driver had already lowered the window net after crossing the start-finish line. Pushed by his Penske teammate Austin Cindric on the restart, Blaney was able to stay in front and hold off Denny Hamlin.

Tennis – French Open – Gauff, Alcaraz reach 2nd round
Coco Gauff didn’t let 10 double-faults, 12 break points or a warning from the chair umpire about receiving coaching from Dad disrupt her progress into the second round at the French Open. The 18-year-old American opened stay in Paris with a 7-5, 6-0 victory over Canadian qualifier Rebecca Marino.  Rising star Carlos Alcaraz also advanced. The 19-year-old from Spain never faced a break point while beating Juan Ignacio Londero 6-4, 6-2, 6-0 in less than two hours.  Dominic Thiem extended his losing streak to 10 matches as he works his way back from a torn tendon in his right wrist. Also making early exits Sunday were two-time Grand Slam champion Garbiñe Muguruza and No. 6 seed Ons Jabeur. Muguruza won the French Open in 2016 and Wimbledon in 2017.

Olympics – Tokyo Olympic film debuts in Japan; headed next to Cannes
The documentary film about the pandemic-delayed Tokyo Olympics has had its first public viewing. The 120-minute film is produced by Japanese Naomi Kawase and looks at the Olympics primarily from the point of view of the athletes and those around them. The film will be viewed later this week at the Cannes Film Festival. Kawase has also made another film looking at the Tokyo Olympics away from the athletes. It will debut at a later date. The documentary of the 1964 Tokyo Olympics by Kon Ichikawa, titled “Tokyo Olympiad," is generally regarded as one of the most important in the genre. Also in that category is Leni Riefenstahl’s “Olympia” from the 1936 Berlin Games.

Isaac Paredes homered twice against his former teammates to double his career big league total, helping the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Detroit Tigers 6-1 on an afternon Eduardo Rodriguez left in the first inning and headed to the injured list. Rodriguez lasted just one out and averaged 91.9 mph for his fastball, 2.4 mph below his season average, and left the mound with Tigers head athletic trainer Doug Teter. Drew Rasmussen allowed four hits in five shutout innings with seven strikeouts and no walks, improving to 4-0 with a 1.01 ERA in his last five starts.

Royals 6, White Sox 2 – Witt homers off Giolito, Melendez connects as KC tops Chisox
Bobby Witt Jr. and MJ Melendez homered and fellow rookie Emmanuel Rivera hit a go-ahead triple to lead the Kansas City Royals over the Chicago White Sox 6-2. Witt, Melendez and Rivera each had two hits. Rivera’s sinking liner escaped a diving Adam Engel for a triple that drove in Melendez with the tiebreaking run in the sixth. In his return from the COVID-19-related injured list, Giolito labored early, needing 54 pitches to complete the first two innings, allowing four hits and two walks. After Witt’s leadoff homer in the third, Giolito struck out six of the next seven batters and permitted only a pair of singles before being lifted after five innings.

Pirates 3, Cubs 2 – Chicago-born rookie Suwinski homers, lifts Pirates over Cubs
Rookie Jack Suwinski, who attended high school 20 minutes from Wrigley Field, hit a tiebreaking home run and the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Cubs 3-2, ending Chicago’s four-game winning streak. Suwinski made his major league debut this season and began the day hitting .183 with two homers. With the score 2-all, the 23-year-old outfielder from Taft High School opened the fifth inning with a drive off Drew Smyly that barely cleared the center field wall. Michael Chavis’ single in the third snapped the Pirates’ scoreless streak of 20 innings. They scored in the eighth inning of Sunday’s 1-0 win over the Reds despite being no-hit by Hunter Greene and Art Warren, then lost 9-0 and 7-0 earlier this week at Wrigley Field.

Rookie of the Year Scottie Barnes, Cleveland forward Evan Mobley and Detroit guard Cade Cunningham were unanimously voted to the NBA All-Rookie first team. Orlando’s Franz Wagner and Houston’s Jalen Green were the other players chosen for the first team by a panel of 100 sportswriters and broadcasters. Barnes, the No. 4 pick by the Toronto Raptors, edged Mobley for the Rookie of the Year in the smallest margin under the current format that began in 2002-03. Ezi Magbegor scored 21 points, Breanna Stewart added 13 and the Seattle Storm beat the Chicago Sky 74-71. Magbegor added six rebounds and four assists, and Stewart had four steals for the Storm (2-3). Seattle led 74-62 after Gabby Williams’ 3-pointer with 2:28 remaining. Candace Parker scored the final seven points in a 9-0 Chicago run to close out the game. The Sky (2-2) had the ball with 9.1 seconds left, but Allie Quigley misfired on a 22-footer on the game’s final shot. Azura Stevens led Chicago with 18 points. Parker finished with 11 points and nine rebounds.

NCAAWBKB – Central Michigan’s top scorer Molly Davis transfers to Iowa
All-Mid-American Conference first-team pick Molly Davis of Central Michigan is transferring to Iowa. That word from Hawkeyes coach Lisa Bluder. The 5-foot-7 guard from Midland, Michigan, was a three-year starter for the Chippewas and led the team last season with 18.6 points and 4.7 assists per game. She has scored at least 10 points in 67 games, including a career-high 33 points against Ohio in the 2021 MAC Tournament semifinals. Davis will have two season of eligibility because of the COVID-19 bonus year.

NCAAFB – Raise makes Ohio State’s Day one of highest-paid coaches
Ohio State plans to hike Ryan Day’s annual salary to $9.5 million as part of a two-year contract extension that will put him among the nation’s highest-paid college football coaches. Day’s raise makes him the latest coach to crack $9 million per year, putting him in company with Alabama’s Nick Saban and Clemson’s Dabo Swinney and in line with recent megadeals given to Michigan State’s Mel Tucker and LSU’s Brian Kelly. In three seasons, Day has led the Buckeyes to a 34-4 record, including 23-1 in the Big Ten.

NCAAFB – Saban calls out Texas A&M for using NIL deals to buy players
Alabama coach Nick Saban called out Texas A&M, saying the school was “buying” players with name, image and likeness deals. The Aggies signed the top recruiting class in the country earlier this year. While speaking at an event in Birmingham, Alabama, Saban also mention Jackson State and Miami as schools that have used NIL deals to lure players. Jackson State coach Deion Sanders responded by calling Saban’s comments about a $1 million NIL deal for a highly touted recruit a lie. Saban said Alabama players earned more than $3 million from sponsorship and endorsement deals “the right way.”

CFL – CFL, players’ union make tentative labor deal, ending strike
The Canadian Football League and its players’ union have reached a tentative agreement on a new labor contract, ending the second strike in CFL history. The league made the announcement Wednesday night. The contract must be ratified by both the CFL board of governors and the CFL Players’ Association. The new collective bargaining agreement comes four days after players with seven of the league’s nine teams did not show up for the start of training camp. Players with the two remaining teams would have been eligible to walk off the job Thursday.

Soccer – US Soccer equalizes pay in milestone with women, men
The U.S. Soccer Federation has reached milestone agreements to pay its men’s and women’s teams equally. That makes the American national governing body the first in the sport to promise both sexes completely matching compensation. The federation has announced separate collective bargaining agreements through 2028 with the unions for both national teams. The move ends years of often acrimonious negotiations. One of the main sticking points was World Cup prize money. The unions agreed to pool FIFA’s payments for the men’s World Cup this year and next year’s Women’s World Cup. It will also pool the 2026 and 2027 tournaments.

Kevin Kiermaier, Brett Phillips and Randy Arozarena each homered and drove in two runs, Shane McClanahan struck out seven in seven innings and the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Detroit Tigers 8-1. Ji-Man Choi also drove in two runs for the Rays, who broke Detroit’s four-game winning streak. Jeimer Candelario homered off McClanahan in the fifth for the Tigers, his third of the season. Kiermaier had three hits including a leadoff homer in the second off Detroit starter Beau Brieske. It was his fourth homer of the season.

White Sox 3, Royals 0 & Royals 2, White Sox 1 – White Sox and Royals split doubleheader
Brady Singer outdueled Davis Martin as the Kansas City Royals beat the Chicago White Sox 2-1 in the second game of a doubleheader. The White Sox won the first game 3-0. Singer (1-0) had his best outing since last September 5, when he threw seven shutout innings against the White Sox. He struck out a career high nine batters and didn’t walk anyone. He allowed just four hits in seven innings. Josh Staumont earned his third save in five chances. Davis Martin (0-1) made his debut and was equally impressive. He allowed just one run on five hits in five innings, walking one and striking out seven.

Cubs 7, Pirates 0 – Cubs shut out Pirates for 2nd straight night, 7-0
Keegan Thompson combined with three relievers on a five-hitter, and the Chicago Cubs shut out the Pittsburgh Pirates for the second straight game, a 7-0 win that extended their winning streak to a season-best four. Jonathan Villar hit a go-ahead, solo homer in the third and added an RBI single. Pittsburgh has not scored since the eighth inning Sunday, when the Pirates beat Cincinnati 1-0 despite not getting any hits. The Pirates had five hits Tuesday and have just nine in three games, dropping their batting average to .223. The shutout was the fifth against Pittsburgh this season.

NBA – Magic Moment: Orlando wins lottery, lands No. 1 pick
The Orlando Magic won the NBA draft lottery and landed the No. 1 overall pick for the first time since they got Dwight Howard nearly two decades ago. Orlando finished with the worst record in the Eastern Conference at 22-60 and missed the playoffs for the eighth time in 10 years. But they got a huge win in the lottery, with the top pick for the first time since taking Howard in 2004. Duke’s Paolo Banchero, Gonzaga’s Chet Holmgren, Purdue’s Jaden Ivey and Auburn’s Jabari Smith are widely considered the most likely candidates to be taken first. Oklahoma City got the second pick, followed by Houston and Sacramento.  Detroit will pick fifth.

Erica Wheeler had a season-high 16 points and rookie Kristy Wallace added a career-best 15 for Atlanta. Wallace was a second-round pick out of Baylor in 2018 and made her WNBA debut in the season opener after playing professionally in her native Australia the last four seasons. Howard hit 3-pointers to open and close an 11-2 opening run and the Dream never trailed. Victoria Vivians led Indiana (2-4) with 16 points. Danielle Robinson and Kelsey Mitchell score 12 points apiece. NaLyssa Smith, the No. 2 overall selection in last month’s draft, did not play for the Fever due to an ankle injury.

WNBA – State Dept pushing to see Griner; NBA Commissioner weighs in
The State Department said Tuesday that it still pushing to have regular contact with WNBA star Brittney Griner, who has been detained in Russia for nearly three months. A consular official was able to meet with Griner last week, when her pre-trial detention in Russia was extended for one month. Griner has been detained since February, after vape cartridges containing oil derived from cannabis were allegedly found in her luggage at an airport in Moscow. The NBA also weighed in on the matter Tuesday. Commissioner Adam Silver says his league is also trying to bring Griner home.

NFL – Bears try to prove they can support QB Justin Fields
The Chicago Bears have brought in numerous new faces on offense, but none of the most expensive free agents and they used their second-round draft picks for defensive help, so at organized team activity workouts they face questions about how well they’ve supported quarterback Justin Fields. The Bears signed third-round receiver Velus Jones to a contract on Tuesday and added another offensive lineman in Shon Coleman, but they’re trying to prove competition and a thorough understanding of their new offense can compensate for the lack of top-level offensive help for Fields.

NFL – Former Bears RB Tarik Cohen injured during streamed workout
Former Chicago Bears running back Tarik Cohen, now a free agent, apparently suffered an injury during a training session being live-streamed on his Instagram account.  The hard-luck player, released in March by the Bears due to past injuries, grabbed the back of his leg after going down during the workout. The incident was seen on Instagram Live, with Cohen falling to the floor after back-peddling.  Cohen played three full seasons with Chicago but made it to only three games in 2021 before tearing knee ligaments.

Horse Racing – Rich Strike skipping Preakness reignites Triple Crown debate
Kentucky Derby winner Rich Strike’s absence from the Preakness has reignited the debate over whether the spacing of the three Triple Crown races should be changed. The current schedule of two weeks from the Derby to Preakness and then three weeks to the Belmont has been in place since 1969, except for 2020 when the pandemic disrupted the order. Proponents of change argue it’s better for horses to get more rest and that the Preakness would become a better race. Those in favor of the status quo point to the sport’s tradition and say it should be difficult to win the Triple Crown.

Harold Castro hit his first home run of the year with two outs in the ninth inning, a tiebreaking shot that sent the Detroit Tigers past the Tampa Bay Rays 3-2 for their season-best fourth straight victory. Castro connected off Andrew Kittredge. Michael Fulmer got the win in relief and Gregory Soto pitched the ninth for his sixth save in seven tries. Jonathan Schoop hit a two-run homer that put Tigers rookie Alex Faedo in position for his first major league win, but Brett Phillips helped the Rays erase their 2-0 deficit with a home run in the sixth and a leadoff double in the eighth. Phillips scored on Wander Franco’s sacrifice fly to tie it.

White Sox 5, Royals 3 – F/10 – Robert powers White Sox past Royals in 10 after Cueto’s gem
Luis Robert hit a two-run homer in the 10th inning after Johnny Cueto’s impressive Chicago debut, and the White Sox defeated the Kansas City Royals 5-3 in the opener of a five-game series. Yasmani Grandal also had a two-run shot for the White Sox, who squandered a 3-0 lead in the eighth. Robert connected off Scott Barlow with two outs, scoring the automatic runner as well. The 36-year-old Cueto pitched six shutout innings in his first major league start this season after getting promoted from Triple-A Charlotte. The two-time All-Star allowed just two hits and two walks, striking out seven. Only one runner reached second base against him.

Cubs 9, Pirates 0 – Contreras hits 1st-inning slam, Cubs beat Pirates 9-0
Willson Contreras led off with a double and became a rare leadoff hitter with a first-inning grand slam as the Chicago Cubs burst to an eight-run lead and beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-0. Contreras became the 10th leadoff hitter since 1901 with a first-inning slam, the first since Houston’s George Springer off Kansas City’s Edinson Vólquez on June 24, 2016. The slam was the 100th homer of Contreras’ career. Wade Miley retired his first 14 batters before Michael Chavis lined a single to left and ended a 13-inning hitless streak for Pittsburgh batters.

NHL – Vegas fires DeBoer
The Vegas Golden Knights have fired coach Peter DeBoer after they missed the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. General manager Kelly McCrimmon says the front office believes a new coach would put the team in the best position to succeed next season. Vegas failed to qualify for the playoffs after a barrage of injuries compounded by salary cap problems wreaked havoc on the lineup.

NHL – Love of hockey sends Greenberg from Cubs to Blackhawks
Jeff Greenberg grew up watching Mario Lemieux and the Pittsburgh Penguins. He played hockey all the way through the club level at the University of Pennsylvania. It’s that love for the sport that prompted Greenberg to take on a unique challenge. After working in baseball for more than 15 years, Greenberg has moved over to the NHL as an associate general manager in the revamped front office of the Chicago Blackhawks. Greenberg is tasked with overseeing the strategic systems and processes for the team’s hockey operations department. He says it’s an “incredible opportunity.”

NBA – Woman files for protective order against Cavs’ Rajon Rondo
A Louisville woman has filed for an emergency protective order against Cleveland Cavaliers guard Rajon Rondo and alleges the former Kentucky star brandished a gun and threatened her life. News outlets report the woman alleges Rondo “became enraged” last week during a confrontation and filed for the EPO on Friday in Jefferson County Family Court. She says in the EPO that Rondo then went outside and knocked over the trash cans, stomped on the landscaping lights and drove his car onto the lawn. Rondo returned and beat on a window with a gun before giving the gun to former Louisville Metro Police interim chief Yvette Gentry and leaving.

NFL – Buck, Aikman excited about ‘starting over’ with ESPN
Joe Buck and Troy Aikman have met their ESPN co-workers for the first time as they prepare to take over in the “Monday Night Football” booth. Both said Monday they are excited about the challenge of doing something new after 20 seasons together at Fox. Aikman had considered a deal with Amazon to call Thursday night games while reducing his schedule at Fox. But the logistics of that arrangement became difficult, and ESPN began talking to him about moving to Monday nights. Once Aikman was on board, ESPN snagged Buck from Fox, where he had a year left on his contract. Buck says the parting was amicable.

NFL – AP source: Browns QB Watson to meet with NFL reps in Texas
A person familiar with the situation tells The Associated Press that Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson will meet with NFL officials in Texas. Watson is facing 22 civil lawsuits from massage therapists accusing him of sexual misconduct and plans to meet with the league representatives this week, according to the person who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation. Watson faces potential discipline from the league, which is independently investigating whether he violated its personal conduct policy. Reporter Josina Anderson was first to report the meeting on Twitter. A league spokesman declined to comment on the tweet and said "there’s no timetable as the review is active and ongoing.”

NCAA – States hands off when it comes to NCAA, athlete compensation
The NCAA recently issued a warning that there are still rules to follow now that college athletes can make money off their fame and celebrity. It waited nearly a year to do so and it has raised speculation of a crackdown on some of the dealmakers working with college athletes. About two dozen states have laws regarding athlete compensation. The laws, however, have no enforcement mechanisms. There has been no indication so far that a state attorney general or prosecutor will go after a booster organization striking deals with athletes.

CFL – Roughriders cancel practices as CFL work stoppage continues
The Saskatchewan Roughriders became the fourth Canadian Football League team to cancel training-camp practices after the league and its players broke off negotiations on a new collective bargaining agreement. The Montreal Alouettes, Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Toronto Argonauts canceled practices on Sunday, a day after negotiations halted, putting players on seven of the league’s nine teams in a legal strike position. Players for the Calgary Stampeders and Edmonton Elks won’t be in a legal strike position until later this week under Alberta’s labor laws. Hamilton players planned to stand outside the team’s stadium in a show of unity on Tuesday.

Cabrera had two hits, scored two runs and knocked in two more for the Tigers, who have won three straight. Harold Castro added three hits, a run scored and two RBIs. Skubal lasted six innings, limiting Baltimore to three hits and two walks. Trey Mancini’s homer off Rony Garcia in the ninth prevented the Orioles from being shut out in back-to-back games.

Yankees 5, White Sox 1 – Cortes pitches 8 crisp innings as Yankees beat White Sox 5-1
Nestor Cortes pitched a career-high eight innings and the New York Yankees took advantage of Michael Kopech’s one wild stretch by beating the Chicago White Sox 5-1. New York managed just two hits: a second-inning single for Isiah Kiner-Falefa and a two-run homer by Joey Gallo in the ninth. But it was more than enough, thanks to the crafty Cortes. The 27-year-old left-hander allowed three hits, struck out seven and walked none. Adam Engel homered for Chicago, and Kopech pitched six innings of one-hit ball. He gave up four walks, and the Yankees took advantage.

Cubs 3, Diamondbacks 2 – Schwindel’s go-ahead hit in 9th lifts Cubs over Arizona
Frank Schwindel hit a tiebreaking single in the ninth inning and the Chicago Cubs beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2. Patrick Wisdom and Rafael Ortega also homered for the Cubs, who have won four of six after a 3-14 stretch. Wisdom doubled to deep center field to lead off the ninth against Ian Kennedy and Schwindel reached out and hit a soft line drive over first base. Arizona lost its first series in six. The Diamondbacks had won their previous last five one-run games — they are 7-4 in one-run games this season after going was 10-31 in such games last season.

NASCAR – Kurt Busch wins for MJ
Kurt Busch pinched his way past Kyle Larson for the lead with eight laps to go, then drove his gaudy Jordan Brand-styled car away from the reigning NASCAR Cup Series champion to win Sunday’s race at Kansas Speedway.  It was the second win for the up-and-coming 23XI Racing team owned by Michael Jordan and Denny Hamlin, who followed the two leaders and Kyle Busch across in fourth place. Bubba Wallace won the team’s first race last year at Talladega.

Golf – PGA – Lee rallies to win Nelson for 2nd straight year
K.H. Lee has successfully defended his Byron Nelson title. Lee fired a 9-under 63 for a one-shot victory over local favorite Jordan Spieth (speeth) at birdie-besieged TPC Craig Ranch. Lee’s 240-yard shot on the par-5 12th hole stopped less than 5 feet from the pin, and the eagle put him in front for good.  Spieth shot a 67 to finish a stroke ahead of Hideki Matsuyama and Sebastián Muñoz (69), who held or shared the lead the first three rounds. Matsuyama shot a 62 and Xander Schauffele had a career-best 61 to finish in a tie for fifth.

Golf – Champions – Stricker completes dominant performance
Steve Stricker completed at a wire-to-wire victory in the Regions Tradition, closing with a 4-under 68 for a six-stroke victory and his fourth PGA Tour Champions major title.  Stricker’s second Tradition win at Greystone Golf & Country Club came in his third event since returning from a six-month absence for health reasons. Two straight birdies punctuated the dominant performance.  Paidrag Harrington finished second, birdieing the final two holes for a 68.  Steven Alker was in the group at 14 under after a 72.

Golf – LPGA – Australian Lee hangs on to win Founders Cup
LPGA scoring leader Minjee Lee made her only three birdies on the back nine and captured the Cognizant Founders Cup by two shots over Lexi Thompson.  The 25-year-old Australian took the lead for good with a birdie on the par-5 14th hole at Upper Montclair Country Club. She closed with a 2-under 70 for a 72-hole total of 19-under 269 in the event that honors the 13 founding members of the LPGA Tour.  Lee won her seventh career title and first since taking her first major at last year’s Evian Championship.

CFL – 3 CFL teams cancel opening practices amid work stoppage
Three Canadian Football league teams canceled their opening training-camp practices Sunday, a day after the league and players union broke off negotiations on a collective bargaining agreement. The Montreal Alouettes, Hamilton Tiger-Cats and Toronto Argonauts canceled practices, with more teams expected to follow suit. The previous CBA expired at midnight, with the CFL Players’ Association directing players from seven of the nine teams to participate in a work stoppage beginning at 12:01 a.m. EDT Sunday. Players with the Edmonton Elks and Calgary Stampeders reported to their camps because they will not be in a legal strike position under Alberta laws until later this month. The lone previous CFL strike came in 1974 and was resolved before the start of the season.

IndyCar – IndyCar’s aeroscreen gets mixed reviews in 1st rain test
IndyCar officials will spend the next few days collecting information and gathering advice about improving aeroscreen visibility for races held in the rain. Many drivers complained Saturday that they struggled to see other cars late in the IndyCar Grand Prix — even though each has flashing red lights. It was the most intense rainfall the series has competed in since 2018. Race runner-up Simon Pagenaud suggested adding a windshield wiper to the cars. Frye said series officials also will look into whether the use or non-use of tear-off covers by teams could have played a part Saturday.

Seth Brown hit a tiebreaking, two-run homer in the eighth inning and the Oakland Athletics beat the Detroit Tigers 5-3. Michael Fulmer got the first two outs of the eighth, but Jed Lowrie drew a walk and Brown homered. The Tigers have lost nine of 10. Oakland came to Comerica Park this week with a nine-game losing streak, but won four times in an unusual five-game series. The Athletics’ only loss came when they were the official home team in the first game of Tuesday’s doubleheader — a game they were originally supposed to host before the season’s first series was postponed by the lockout. Giancarlo Stanton homered twice and drove in six runs, and the New York Yankees used a seven-run eighth inning to beat the Chicago White Sox 15-7 for their fourth straight victory. Aaron Judge and Josh Donaldson also connected for major league-leading New York in the opener of an eight-game trip. Judge had four RBIs and Donaldson drove in three runs. Led by its relentless lineup, New York won for the 16th time in 18 games. Stanton and Co. are off to the franchise’s best start since the Yankees also opened 23-8 in 2003.

Indy 500 – Concerns about pit row linger as IndyCar revs up for May
Drivers arrived at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for IndyCar’s biggest month wondering whether the slippery pit row problem was fixed. They’re not likely to find out until Indianapolis 500 practice begins Tuesday. Still, it was part of the driver’s discussion as they prepared for qualifying for Saturday’s IndyCar Grand Prix. The slippery apron at the exit of the oval’s pit lane caused three cars to spin and led to two crashes in last month’s testing. But because the cars will race at slower speeds on the road course and run the opposite direction, the impact should be reduced this weekend.

Horse Racing – Derby Winner to skip Preakness
There will be no Triple Crown winner in thoroughbred racing this year.  Rich Strike will not run in the Preakness as owner Rich Dawson and trainer Eric Reed stick to their initial plan to rest the colt for five weeks. Rich Strike went off at 80-1 in winning the Kentucky Derby last weekend.  The plan now is to have Rich Strike ready to run in the Belmont Stakes on June 11.

Rugby – US to host men’s and women’s Rugby World Cups for first time
The United States will stage a Rugby World Cup for the first time after being voted as the host of the men’s tournament in 2031 and the women’s tournament two years later. Australia also is staging back-to-back tournaments in 2027 (men) and 2029 (women). World Rugby announced the host nations for all the World Cups from 2025-33 after a meeting of its council in Dublin. The sport is breaking new ground by taking its most prestigious tournament to North America. World Rugby regards it as an area of untapped potential in both a commercial and sporting sense.

Zach Logue pitched seven scoreless innings in his second major league start and the Oakland Athletics spoiled the debut of Joey Wentz by thumping the floundering Detroit Tigers 9-0. Sean Murphy and Kevin Smith each drove in two runs and Christian Bethancourt supplied three hits, two runs scored and an RBI for the A’s. Oakland, which entered Detroit on a nine-game losing streak, is 3-1 in the five-game series. The Tigers have lost eight of their last nine, scoring two runs or less in each of those defeats.

Guardians at White Sox, PPD/Covid – COVID outbreak postpones Guardians-White Sox game
Major League Baseball has its first coronavirus-related postponement of the season. Today’s series finale in Chicago between the White Sox and the Cleveland Guardians has been called off due to a COVID-19 outbreak in Cleveland’s clubhouse. Manager Terry Francona was among those testing positive. MLB said there were “multiple positive COVID-19 tests” within Cleveland’s organization and the game was postponed to allow for more testing and contact tracing. Francona tested positive a few hours before the scheduled first pitch. The team said the 63-year-old wasn’t showing any symptoms.

Cubs 7, Padres 5 – Rivas’ key hit vs hometown Padres lifts Cubs to 7-5 win
Alfonso Rivas hit a tiebreaking two-run single against his hometown team in the eighth inning, and the banged-up Chicago Cubs beat the San Diego Padres 7-5. Rivas came up with the bases loaded and singled to center off Luis García. The Padres announced during the game that manager Bob Melvin had prostate surgery and is expected to make a full recovery. Melvin said Tuesday that he hoped to miss only the first six games of the Padres’ forthcoming nine-game road trip. Willson Contreras homered for the Cubs, who took two of three in the series.

MLB – Cubs SS Hoerner leaves game after colliding with umpire
Chicago Cubs shortstop Nico Hoerner has exited a game against the San Diego Padres with a sore right ankle an inning after colliding with second base umpire Dan Iassogna in center field. Hoerner was on the ground in pain after the collision in the first inning and was tended to by a trainer. He stayed in the game and batted in the second, striking out. He was replaced in the bottom half of the inning by Ildemaro Vargas. Hoerner was running out to take the throw from Jason Heyward after Jurickson Profar hit a flyball over the center fielder’s head for a triple when the collision occurred.

NBA – Jokic takes MVP honors again
Denver Nuggets center Nikola Jokic has won the NBA’s Most Valuable Player award for a second consecutive season, making four straight MVPs for foreign-born players.  The Serbian big man beat out two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Bucks and 76ers center Joel Embiid in the first all-international list of finalists.  Jokic averaged 27.1 points on 58% shooting while providing 13.8 rebounds and 7.9 assists per game.

NFL – Bears add depth at wide receiver by signing Dante Pettis
The Chicago Bears added depth at wide receiver, agreeing to a deal with free agent Dante Pettis. The 26-year-old Pettis announced the move on Twitter, posting a photo of himself signing a contract. Drafted by San Francisco in the second round in 2018, he has 52 receptions for 739 yards and nine touchdowns over four seasons with the 49ers and New York Giants. Pettis was limited to three games with the Giants last year because of a shoulder injury on a punt return. The Bears also claimed tight end Rysen John off waivers from the Giants and signed quarterback Nathan Peterman. They waived tight end Jesper Horsted following a failed physical and quarterback Ryan Willis.

NCAAFB – ACC mulling division-free football scheduling model by 2023
The Atlantic Coast Conference is mulling a change to its football scheduling model that could include the elimination of divisions by 2023. Discussions are taking place during the league’s annual spring meetings. The focus is a 3-5-5 model that would have teams playing three opponents as permanent scheduling partners annually then rotating through the other 10 teams over two seasons in that eight-game schedule. Currently teams can go years without meeting and have one permanent cross-division opponent. The discussions come after the ACC’s 2020 season nixed divisions and added Notre Dame for one year amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Horse Racing – Derby-winning rider Leon serving suspension by Ohio stewards
The jockey of Kentucky Derby upset winner Rich Strike is currently serving a four-day suspension that was handed down by Ohio racing stewards. His agent says it won’t prevent him from riding the horse in next week’s Preakness. Stewards last week suspended Sonny Leon for careless riding in the third race on April 27 at Thistledown Racecourse, during which he “deliberately and aggressively” steered One Glamorous Gal toward the rail to block other horses in the stretch.

Tarik Skubal led the Tigers to a 6-0 win over Oakland as the visiting team in the opener of a unique doubleheader caused by Major League Baseball’s lockout. With the Athletics as the visiting team in the second game, 25-year-old Adrian Martinez (1-0) pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings in his major league debut to help Oakland to a 4-1 victory. In a matchup of last-place teams, Detroit ended a 27-inning scoreless streak in the opener. Oakland (12-19) then won for the second time in 12 games and sent the Tigers (9-21) to their seventh loss in eight games.

White Sox 4, Guardians 1 – Sheets homers, Anderson 2 RBIs, White Sox top Guardians 4-1
Gavin Sheets homered in his second straight game, Tim Anderson had three hits and 2 RBIs and the Chicago White Sox shook off the previous night’s big collapse by beating the Cleveland Guardians 4-1. Starter Lucas Giolito went seven innings and gave up just the one run that came on a Josh Naylor homer to win his second straight start. He allowed six hits, struck out five and walked one. The White Sox won their seventh of eight games. Naylor had two hits. Cleveland starter Cal Quantrill went 6 1/3 innings, allowing four runs and 10 hits.

Padres 5, Cubs 4 – Machado, Padres beat Cubs 5-4 in Clevinger’s return
Manny Machado hit a go-ahead double in the sixth inning and the San Diego Padres beat the Chicago Cubs 5-4 hours after finding out manager Bob Melvin will have prostate surgery. Melvin announced before the game that he’ll have surgery Wednesday. He said he doesn’t think he has cancer, “but they won’t know until they get in there.” Mike Clevinger pitched well for 4 1/3 innings in his first start at Petco Park since late in the 2020 season. He missed last season while rehabbing after Tommy John surgery. Chicago’s Wade Miley lasted three innings in his Cubs debut.

MLB – Cubs’ Rivas gets HR when ball bounces out of rookie’s glove
Alfonso Rivas of the Chicago Cubs got a two-run homer when his fly ball to deep center field bounced out of the glove of rookie Jose Azocar and went over the fence.Azocar was starting in place of Gold Glove center fielder Trent Grisham because the Padres were facing lefty Wade Miley. Azocar slumped to the ground in disappointment after the play. Rivas grew up in nearby Chula Vista and went to La Jolla Country Day. His homer tied the game at 2 in the third inning. It was his second and came off Mike Clevinger, who made his first start in San Diego since Sept. 23, 2020..

MLB – White Sox’s Jiménez making quick strides from torn hamstring
Chicago White Sox outfielder Eloy Jiménez says he is making quick strides in his recovery from a torn hamstring. Jiménez says he is coming along sooner than expected. He is pain free and has been running and swinging. Jiménez was injured trying to beat out a grounder at Minnesota on April 23. The 25-year-old slugger felt it as he was running toward the base. He then stretched for the bag, stumbled and was taken from the field on a cart. Jiménez had surgery a few days later, and the White Sox said he would be out six to eight weeks.

MLB – Anderson suspension dropped in MLB settlement, fine remains
Major League Baseball dropped the one-game suspension of Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson for giving fans the middle finger during a game on April 20 as part of a settlement with the players’ association. He agreed to a fine as part of the settlement, which avoided an appeal before MLB special adviser John McHale Jr. Anderson had three errors in the first two innings of Chicago’s 11-1 loss in the opener of a doubleheader and made the gesture toward a fan while out in the field. MLB senior vice president Michael Hill announced the suspension two days later.

NBA – Spurs owner insists NBA team will stay in San Antonio
San Antonio Spurs owner Peter J. Holt sent a message Tuesday to fans worried he may try to move the franchise: the team isn’t going anywhere. An announced desire to have the Spurs move a few games to Austin had raised some local worries that the owners may be considering moving the team. Holt’s message posted to social media insisted the Spurs would stay in San Antonio.

NBA – Bob Lanier, NBA force who left big shoes to fill, dies at 73
Basketball big man Bob Lanier has died after a short illness. He was 73. Lanier was one of the NBA’s top players of the 1970s, muscling up beside the likes of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Lanier played 14 seasons with the Detroit Pistons and Milwaukee Bucks. The left-hander averaged more than 20 points and 10 rebounds. He was the No. 1 draft pick in 1970 after leading St. Bonaventure to the Final Four. In 1992, he made the Hall of Fame, where a bronzed pair of his giant sneakers is displayed.

NHL – Canadiens win NHL draft lottery; Devils move up to No. 2
The Montreal Canadiens are hosting the NHL draft in July and will have the right to the No. 1 pick. Montreal won the draft lottery on Tuesday night. It follows a turbulent season in which they finished last in the overall standings. The New Jersey Devils shook up the draft order by winning the second of two lottery drawings and moving from the fifth to second slot in the draft order. Montreal will host this year’s event on July 7 and 8. It ends a long wait after the draft was held remotely due to the coronavirus pandemic in each of the past two years.  The Red Wings will pick 8th, while the Blackhawks had the 6th pick, but it was traded last year in the deal for Seth Jones.

Kelsey Mitchell scored 26 points, Crystal Dangerfield had 10 points and six assists against her former team and the Indiana Fever beat the Minnesota Lynx 82-76 to snap a six-game losing streak in the series. Dangerfield, who was waived by Minnesota a week ago, made a jumper from the free throw line to extend Indiana’s lead to 76-72 with 2:26 left and added two free throws at 18.9 to seal it. Dangerfield, the 2020 rookie of the year, was 3 of 7 from the field in 21 minutes. Rookie NaLyssa Smith added nine points for Indiana. Sylvia Fowles had 26 points and 14 rebounds to lead Minnesota.

NFL – Tom Brady to join Fox Sports when playing career ends
Tom Brady will join Fox Sports as a football announcer when his playing career ends. That announcement was made Tuesday by Fox Corp. CEO Lachlan Murdoch on an investor call. Brady had announced his retirement at the end of last season, but later renounced it and said he was going to play at least another season as the Tampa Bay Bucs quarterback. Signing the seven-time Super Bowl champion was a coup for Fox after its top football announcing team, Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, recently left for ESPN. Murdoch says it’s up to Brady when he decides to retire.

NFL – Slime Time: Nickelodeon to broadcast Christmas Day NFL game
The NFL game on Christmas Day between the Broncos and Rams will be broadcast by Nickelodeon. The network, which previously televised two playoff games, and CBS will handle TV duties on Dec. 25 at 4:30 p.m. EST. The Super Bowl champion Rams will host the game, which also will be streamed by Paramount+. Nickelodeon has had success with its youth-oriented telecasts during wild-card weekend alongside the NFL broadcast on CBS. This season, that collaboration will shift to the regular season and Christmas Day. It’s expected to be part of a holiday tripleheader.

NCAA – NIL expert predicts $50,000 minimum pay for Power 5 players
College football and men’s basketball players on scholarship in one of the major conferences can expect to soon earn a minimum of $50,000 each year he plays because of the influx of cash from booster collectives brokering name, image and likeness deals. That prediction comes from Blake Lawrence. He’s co-founder and CEO of Opendorse, a company that helps athletes and schools navigate the NIL landscape.

Indy 500 – Sarah Fisher selected as Indy 500 celebrity pace car driver
IndyCar veteran Sarah Fisher has been selected as the celebrity pace car driver for this month’s Indianapolis 500. Fisher has been the regular pace-car driver for series events at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for years. This time she won’t be taking the handoff from some high-profile non-racing veteran. Instead she’ll be in the car for the entire May 29 race. She will drive the 670-horsepower 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 70th- year anniversary edition, the automobile manufacturer announced. Fisher made nine 500 starts in her career and was the first female to win an IndyCar pole.

Boxing – No charges for Mike Tyson for punching airplane passenger
Authorities will not file criminal charges against former heavyweight champ Mike Tyson after he was recorded on video punching a fellow first-class passenger aboard a plane at San Francisco International Airport last month. The San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office says Tuesday that it closed the case. The victim and Tyson requested that charges not be filed. The video shows Tyson repeatedly striking the unidentified man in the head, drawing blood. The footage was first shared by TMZ, which said it was recorded on a JetBlue Airways plane bound for Florida. Tyson representatives have said the boxer was on a flight with an aggressive passenger.

MILB – MLB wage settlements
Minor league players and Major League Baseball have reached a settlement in a lawsuit alleging teams violated minimum wage laws. Two people familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press that the sides in recent weeks had been discussing a possible settlement in the $200 million range. The suit had been scheduled for a trial starting June 1 in San Francisco.
