US oil firm Apache has announced plans to exit the North Sea because the windfall tax has made its UK operations “uneconomic”.
The Texas firm will cease all production at its UK assets by December 2029, “well ahead of what would have been an otherwise reasonable time frame”.
In addition to criticising the UK’s Energy Profits Levy — otherwise known as a windfall tax — John Christmann, chief executive of Apache parent firm APA, said UK regulators issued new rules that will require “substantial new emissions control investments” on facilities that operate in the North Sea beyond 2029.
He said: “After six months of evaluation, we have concluded that the investment required to comply with these regulations… coupled with the onerous financial impact of the Energy Profits Levy makes production of hydrocarbons beyond the year 2029 uneconomic.”
Apache took control of the Forties field in 2003 but suspended all new drilling activity last year. The firm will run a “very limited capital programme” in the North Sea next year before those assets are ultimately decommissioned, Mr Christmann said.

Scoop: Biden discussed plans to strike Iran nuclear sites if Tehran speeds toward bomb
White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan presented President Biden with options for a potential U.S. attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities if the Iranians move towards a nuclear weapon before Jan. 20, in a meeting several weeks ago that remained secret until now, three sources with knowledge of the issue tell Axios.
Why it matters: A U.S. strike on Iran’s nuclear program during the lame duck period would be an enormous gamble from a president who promised he would not allow Iran to develop a nuclear weapon, but who would also risk handing a fresh conflict over to his successor. Biden did not green light a strike during the meeting and has not done so since, the sources said.
Biden and his national security team discussed various options and scenarios during the meeting, which took place roughly one month ago, but the president did not make any final decision, according to the sources.

Man Arrested in Payette, Idaho After Police Find Improvised Bomb in Train Car
Payette Police arrested 40-year-old Brent Sharrai after discovering an improvised explosive device (IED) attached to a railcar in Payette, Idaho.
Officers responded to a report of a suspicious individual attempting to ignite an object near a parked railroad car in the 600 block of North 8th Street.
Upon arrival, they observed fresh footprints in the snow leading to a train car, where they found an undetonated PVC pipe-bomb-style device affixed to a step.
Following the footprints, officers located Sharrai in a nearby camp trailer. He attempted to flee but surrendered after a brief pursuit.

German energy official asks citizens to save gas
German households and businesses should save gas to avoid shortages, the country’s energy regulator, the Federal Network Agency, has requested, Die Welt reported on Wednesday. According to an analysis by the agency, the country has been consuming significantly more gas this heating season than last year.
The agency said total gas consumption in Germany rose by 5.8% from October to December 2024 against the same period the previous year, to 246 terawatt-hours (TWh). Industries recorded an increase in consumption of 9.1% compared to 2023, while the increase in households and businesses was more modest at 1.9%, the report noted.

BREAKING: Mass Shooting Reported at New York Nightclub — At Least Eleven People Hurt
A mass shooting has been reported at a nightclub in Queens, New York.
While details about the attack still remain scarce, it is said to have taken place at the Amazura event hall located near Jamaica Long Island Rail Road station.
New York Metro reports:
Law enforcement sources said the gunfire erupted near the Amazura event hall at 91-12 144th Place in Jamaica, within the confines of the 103rd Precinct, at about 11:20 p.m. on Jan. 1.
At least three individuals wounded in the shooting walked into a local hospital seeking treatment, sources familiar with the investigation said.
The attack took place hours after the city of New Orleans was subject to an Islamist terror attack in which 16 people were killed by a car ramming.

Cyber attacks disrupt internet sites of multiple French cities
The websites of several prominent French cities became inaccessible on Tuesday due to attacks by hackers.
Paris prosecutors have launched an investigation into the matter, as the hackers claimed their actions were a protest against France’s support for Ukraine.
At around 1600 GMT, the websites of Marseille and Tarbes, along with the Haute-Garonne department’s site, were reported down.
The hacker group known as NoName took responsibility for the attacks, announcing on their X account that they had targeted additional cities, including Nantes, Bordeaux, Poitiers, Pau, Nimes, Nice, Angers, Le Havre, and Montpellier, as well as the Les Landes department, French Polynesia, and New Caledonia.

A former CIA officer named Sarah Adams was interviewed on the Shawn Ryan podcast just two weeks ago, and warned that there are more than a thousand al-Qaeda sleepers in the United States right now who are planning major attacks on the homeland.
She clearly implicates Biden’s open southern border as the entry point for these potential terrorists and suggests that they have developed new tactics and bombs that can evade detection through traditional means.

Houston Mosque Reportedly Attended by New Orleans Terrorist Instructs Members NOT to Speak to the FBI and Refer Them to Radical CAIR
Masjid Bilal ISGH, a mosque in Houston reportedly attended by the New Orleans terrorist Shamsud-Din Jabbar, has instructed its members not to speak to the FBI.

The Justice Department is fighting to keep an anti-government extremist in custody after the FBI allegedly seized the largest cache of “finished explosive devices” in its history from a farm outside of Norfolk, VA.
Brad Kenneth Spafford, 36, was arrested on Dec. 17 for allegedly possessing an unregistered short barrel rifle. The single-count charge led to a search of Spafford’s 20-acre farm, where federal investigators said they found a mass quantity of homemade explosives.
“When investigators searched his 20-acre property, in Isle of Wight County, they found in a detached garage more than 150 explosive devices — mostly pipe bombs, some of them labeled ‘lethal,'” The New York Times reported. “They found more pipe bombs in a bedroom inside Mr. Spafford’s house, loosely stuffed in a backpack that bore a patch shaped like a hand grenade and a logo reading ‘#NoLivesMatter’.

Panama is violating its Canal Treaty by cozying up to China — risking US safety
The waterway, originally an American possession, was given to Panama by President Jimmy Carter in two 1977 treaties that barely passed the two-thirds Senate majorities necessary for ratification.
The first treaty obliged Panama to operate the canal neutrally, with nondiscriminatory pricing, and allowed the United States to defend it from any threat that might interfere with its neutrality.
The second treaty transferred full control to Panama effective on Dec. 31, 1999, without superseding the first treaty’s broad provision allowing for US defense of this crucial military and economic asset.
Yet despite the assurances in these agreements, the sad truth is the Panama Canal is already in the “wrong hands”: China’s.
In 1996, Panama made a 25-year agreement to outsource management of the canal’s two entry ports — Cristóbal on the Atlantic side and Balboa on the Pacific — to a subsidiary of Hutchison Whampoa, a Hong Kong-based shipping firm.
Technically, the deal seemed to violate the 1977 Panama-US treaties, which guaranteed Panamanian operational control and local security for the canal as well as ownership.
At that time, however, Hong Kong was still a British colony — and both Congress and the US Federal Maritime Commission determined that Hutchison’s operations were not a threat to American interests.
Times have changed.
In 1997, Hong Kong reverted to Chinese communist rule — and despite its promise to preserve the former colony’s distinct political system for 50 years, Beijing has taken complete control there.
The Chinese Communist Party can exercise direct and possibly unlimited influence over any of Hong Kong’s companies, anywhere in the world.
Hutchison’s operational concession, which was renewed by Panama’s government in 2021, thus preserves de facto Chinese control over one of the world’s most vital conduits of maritime traffic.

Almost 170,000 retail employees lost their jobs this year after several major high street firms collapsed.
Homebase, Ted Baker, The Bodyshop, Carpetright and Lloyds Pharmacy were among 38 retailers that went into administration in 2024, according to figures compiled by the Centre for Retail Research.
It said a total of 169,395 retail jobs have been axed since January 1, which is 49,990 (or 41.9%) more than last year.
It is the highest number since more than 200,000 retail jobs were lost in 2020 in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic which forced businesses to shut their stores during lockdowns.

When I read the New York Post article proclaiming that President Trump supports the fraudulent system known as H1B visa hiring, something was amiss because we previously looked at Trump’s various business hires and use of the visa process.Apparently, the NY Post called President Trump to get him to weigh in on the controversial subject that has been triggered by Elon Musk saying he would “go to war on this issue” to maintain the H1B visa system -and subsequent foreign employment for tech skilled workers- his various companies depend upon.
Here’s the topline takeaway from the article that has triggered many:

“I’ve always liked the visas, I have always been in favor of the visas. That’s why we have them,” Trump said by phone, referring to the H-1B program, which permits companies to hire foreign workers in specialty occupations.

However, if you go to the Dept of Labor website, search or download the database of H1B employment, specifically filtering to Trump’s various companies, what you will discover is that Trump Inc doesn’t use the H1B visa system at all. [Check for Yourself Here]
How does this reconcile? Well, having previously looked at the visa use by President Trump in his various companies {SEE HERE}, I can confidently assert (Occam’s Razor) that within the interview President Trump conflated H2B temporary worker visas, which he does use in his service industry, with H1B visas which he does not use.
The H-1B program applies to employers seeking to hire nonimmigrant aliens as workers in specialty occupations of distinguished merit and ability. At least that was the intent of the program before it was abused by companies who saw the opportunity to avoid domestic market wages and find alternative cheap sources of skilled labor in the tech sector. That abusive ‘labor diversion’ process has now expanded to find H1B claims in other sectors. So much so, there are now a myriad of companies requesting H1B status employees for their various interests.
The H2B program applies to employers seeking to hire nonimmigrant aliens as “temporary workers” mostly in the service industry where extreme seasonal fluctuations in business make it challenging to hire from a very limited market base. H2B workers are found in hotels, resorts, restaurants and service companies anywhere you find big seasonal shifts in service businesses, like Trump resorts.

Trump Effect: Mexico to Open Shelters for Deported Migrants by January 20: Report
The government of Mexico is planning to open twenty-five shelters for Mexican citizens deported by the incoming Trump administration. The shelters will be opened by Trump’s inauguration on January 20, according to comments by Baja California Gov. Marina del Pilar at a press conference Monday reported by Border Report.
The temporary shelters will hold about 500 each, totally 12,000. Some will house single men, others will house unaccompanied children, women and family units.

An urgent recall has been issued for pet food after a cat died from eating the product, which was later revealed to be contaminated with bird flu.
Northwest Naturals, based out of Portland, Oregon, is voluntarily recalling bags of its ‘Turkey Recipe’ raw frozen pet food after it tested positive for the bird flu virus.
The product that tested positive was the company’s 98 percent turkey, organs and bones bagged froze raw food.
It was sold across the US through distributors in Washington, Arizona, Rhode Island, Georgia, Maryland and several other states.
The products were also distributed in Canada‘s British Columbia.
It is unclear when the cat which died ate the food, but lab tests revealed there was a ‘genetic match between the virus in the raw and frozen pet food and the infected cat’.
Dogs and cats infected with bird flu could display a mix of symptoms including a fever, a lack of energy, a loss of appetite, stomach issues and seizures.

Cold Weather-Related Deaths Soar Despite ‘Global Warming’ — Doubled Over Past 20 Years
Despite the supposedly catastrophic threat of global warming, cold weather-related deaths across the United States are on the rise.
According to a study published in The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), the number of Americans who have died from the cold has doubled between the period of 1999 to 2022.
Dr. Rishi Wadhera, an associate professor of health policy and management at Harvard University, and his team conducted a study revealing the need for “public health interventions to improve access to warming centers and indoor heating for vulnerable populations.”
The research analyzed U.S. death certificates for over 63.5 million Americans who died between 1999 and 2022.
During that time, exposure to cold temperatures was identified as a direct or contributing factor in 0.06% of deaths.
The study found that the rate of cold-related deaths more than doubled over the 23-year period, increasing from 0.44 deaths per 100,000 people in 1999 to 0.92 deaths per 100,000 in 2022.
This amounts to an annual rise of 3.4% in cold-related mortality.

‘The Hill’ Floats a Ludicrous Plan to Declare Kamala Harris President – Warns Lawmakers ‘Must Act Now’
According to an opinion piece by Evan A. Davis and David M. Schulte, who worked as editor-in-chief of the Columbia Law Review and editor-in-chief of the Yale Law Journal respectively, Congress has the power to block Donald Trump from taking office because he has previously engaged in a so-called “insurrection.”
The piece explains:
The Constitution provides that an oath-breaking insurrectionist is ineligible to be president. This is the plain wording of Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution.
“No person shall … hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any state, who, having previously taken an oath … to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.”
The article goes on to cite legal arguments and historical precedents that would make this constitutional.
While the authors admit that such a plan is unlikely, they argue that Democrats still need to “take a stand” and nullify the results of the 2024 presidential election in which Trump delivered a landslide victory.
Under their dastardly plan, Kamala Harris would then be “elected president” and seize control of the White House.
The authors explain:
To make an objection under the Count Act requires a petition signed by 20 percent of the members of each House. If the objection is sustained by majority vote in each house, the vote is not counted and the number of votes required to be elected is reduced by the number of disqualified votes. If all votes for Trump were not counted, Kamala Harris would be elected president.
The unlikelihood of congressional Republicans doing anything that might elect Harris as president is obvious. But Democrats need to take a stand against Electoral College votes for a person disqualified by the Constitution from holding office unless and until this disability is removed. No less is required by their oath to support and defend the Constitution.

U.S. authorities arrested dozens of members of the Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua during recent operations in two major American cities.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement said 16 suspected gang members were nabbed Tuesday in Aurora, Colorado, after the criminals were linked to a home invasion and kidnapping at an apartment building that Tren de Aragua had taken over.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) warned that North Korea is preparing to send more troops, drones, and missiles to Russia to support its war against Ukraine. North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un is particularly eager to send more “suicide drones” to his ally, Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The South Korean military cited North Korean state media reports that Kim ordered his factories to begin producing suicide drones on a massive scale for export to Russia. The North Korean dictator personally visited test sites to observe various models of drone bombs in action.

Eastern Region of Moldova Declares a State of Emergency as Ukraine Refuses to Continue Transit Agreement for Russian Gas
In the nation of Moldova, the left bank of the Dniester (Nistru) River is home to 360,000 citizens in the Russia-controlled region of Transnistria. To the right side of the dividing line made by the Dniester is the western/EU allied side of Moldova.
The Russian energy company, Gazprom, provides gas to Transnistria through Ukraine. The gas is subsidized by Russia, so the Russian-allied citizens of Transnistria do not pay market prices; in fact, the gas is provided free. However, the gas into Transnistria is also used to power the Moldavskaya GRES power plant, which generates electricity for both banks of the Dniester. In essence, the “free” Russian gas is provided to both the pro-Russia and anti-Russia elements in the region.
The contract for the transit of Russian gas into Transnistria through Ukraine’s territory expires on January 1, 2025. Despite the war between Russia and Ukraine, gas transit and the contract signed in 2019 have continued. However, Ukraine under Zelenskyy has repeatedly said they do not plan to extend the gas transit agreement with Gazprom. This is a way for Zelenskyy, technically NATO, to create anxiety and crisis in the region.
The western aligned government of Moldova have been demanding that Russia withdraw all military and influence from the Transnistria region, meanwhile the Transnistria local governing officials are requesting Moscow to keep the flow of Russian gas ongoing. Observers have noted, “It looks stupid to ask for the withdrawal of Russian troops from Transnistria and meanwhile request Russia to continue to give free gas to the region.”
The citizens of Transnistria are pawns in the political schemes. Zelenskyy (Ukraine) is refusing to allow gas to heat their homes to come after the transit agreement ends. Ukraine, together with NATO, want Russians out of Transnistria. The looming energy crisis has created a state of emergency that the west, together with the Moldavian government intends to exploit.
It is not accidental that the EU/NATO/US State Dept/CIA are using the flashpoints of Georgia and Moldova to create conflict against Russia (check the map).
