Finding time to rest for most people is a challenge. Few people can afford to take long or frequent  vacations. Some people can hardly take a weekend off at times. And as for each and every day we also have so many demands that we are forced to make choices that leave us with little time to rest.

Learning to rest, to be still and be at peace, seems like a privilege at times. Yet it is something that is a must for us to be victorious. If you feel like a rat caught in a maze or the mouse stuck on the proverbial treadmill you are not alone. But God our father and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ both have provided us with rest. If you need a break, if you want to learn to be restful throughout your days, give a listen.

Life and death are in the power of the tongue and so are sales. Advertisers use words to entice us to buy their products. Advertisers aren’t evil just real clever at getting us to remember their products and eventually getting us to try them. People in Third World countries who never hear advertising literally don't know what they're missing and they're usually better off for it. If you never heard about something you'd never buy it. Obviously advertising works. An insurance company with a little lizard as it's spokesperson spent $1.6 billion in advertising in 2019 while a computer company that has a piece of fruit as its logo spent over 600 million. There's something about the power of words that we need to awaken to. Who are we listening to? Whose words do we give value to? Whose words do we believe? We have an enemy that is an expert at throwing words at us like darts. He shoots words at us like arrows. There is a profound psychological challenge that many people face today and that is having an identity crisis. There are many ways it can manifest. For most of us it's a simple challenge of seeing the good within us and not focusing on the bad. The bad can be experiences of trauma and failure and disappointment. But identity crisis can become so severe because of terrible traumas that one's mind can splinter into what is called Dissociative Identity Disorder. An aspect of this disorder is that multiple personalities evolve that control the actions of the individual. One of the most basic causes of this disorder is the minds mechanism to keep the memories of trauma sequestered from one's daily life. Who is in control many times depends on current circumstances. 

As Christians we can exhibit of a bit of this disorder which used to be called Split personality. As a Christian I have an old man and a new man. What I would like to ponder in this episode is the issue of who we really are. what is your core identity? So many of us are lost in a maze of mirrors where we see different sides to ourselves but yet do not recognize the truth of who we really are. The reflection in the glass can be a façade to what truly lies within. The question is what does lie within us that makes our core identity? Come with me and find out who you really are. There are many voices vying for our attention. We are in a constant barrage of advertising that endeavors to draw us into their way of thinking. There are hundreds if not thousands of channels that we can surf via the web or TV all wanting us to turn towards them. 

But worse than the voices that are around us are the voices that are within us. There are the voices of lies. And voices that hold us back. And voices of defeat whose whispers haunts us. There are times when we can get stuck in a rut. The bad thing about ruts as the analogy goes, a rut is a grave with the ends kicked out. Not a good place to be. I live in California not too far from the beach. At times when I'm standing on the edge of the waves if I stand still for a period of time the waves will wash the sand away from under my feet and end up making a hole where I stand. The problem in life at times is that if we stand in one place too long we can get stuck there. 

Years ago I used to rock climb. I've been 80 feet in the air hanging from a rope. That makes for an interesting sensation. There are different grades or difficulties of rock faces. There is a technique of climbing where you, "step and go.” It is a style of climbing that challenges you to quickly ascend the rock face. It is a mental exercise to learn to think quickly and not be weighed down by fear. Confronted with the challenge of the climb one can freeze. What's my next hand grip? What's my next foothold? And the longer one clings to the rock the weaker you get. The rope is only there for safety.

There are some clubs or organizations around the world that have very exclusive membership requirements. If someone who doesn't meet those requirements tries to enter in o such a place they will be stopped and asked, who do you think you are, you're not a member. Membership has its advantages and perks. Sometimes you need to know someone special to even get an invitation to join that club or organization. And sometimes you need to be special or at least a certain gender, or age or economic or social status to not be rejected for membership. the Good news is that someone came to all of us and gave us an invitation to be part of a very elite family. You've been invited into the throne room of the one True God. He wants to be your father. The one who invited you is Jesus.
