‘Yoga can be a natural antidote to trauma’
Caitlin Lainer Yogakane Podcast Episode Trauma-Sensitive Yoga
Disclaimer about this episode - it may trigger some individuals since we do talk about sexual assault and trauma and I invite you to listen to this episode at your pace and listen to your body as you move through this episode and feel free to pause
In today’s episode I sit down with Caitlin Lainer she holds a Master’s degree in Social Work and teaches specialized trauma-informed yoga for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in Boise, Idaho. Caitlin’s intention when serving as a yoga guide is always to provide a safe and supportive space for folks to explore, experiment, and investigate how various yoga forms feel in their bodies. Ultimately, her hope is that through listening to the unique language and wisdom of their bodies, folks will experience their own innate capacity for healing, resilience, and transformation. Caitlin has pioneered numerous trauma-informed yoga programs including a pilot program at the Women’s and Children’s Alliance, Boise State University’s Health Center, The College of Idaho’s Wellness Center, Tidwell Social Services, Saint Alphonsus’ CARE clinic, and Lifeways Counseling Center.
Caitlin explains the difference between yoga and trauma-sensitive yoga. She explains how to create a safe container for your students. And the healing benefits of listening to the sensations of our own body. Caitlin shared a new term with me post-traumatic growth which encouraged me to open up and share my experience of growth being a sexual assault survivor. Caitlin talks to me about how yoga is a natural antidote to trauma and she goes into how we can utilize the window of tolerance to manage stress and anxiety especially during the chronic trauma we are experiencing collectively with covid -19. We also discuss comparative suffering and how as a society we struggle with discussing or looking at trauma.

DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT A CURE FOR COVID-19
In this episode, Ayurveda Counselor and owner of Ladybug and Fern Pamela Higley discusses how to mitigate COVID-19 through the Ayurvedic Lens.
You'll learn why it's important to reduce the intake of some foods such as dairy, sugar, and raw uncooked items (remember the 80/20 RULE - Ayurveda isn't about all of nothing).
Pamela talks about some breathing techniques you can use to reduce stress & anxiety and she also goes into some daily acts we can daily to help calm our nervous system.
At the end of the episode, she will give you an outline of a spring cleanse and why now is the ideal time to give yourself that - I did a spring cleanse from Pamale's advice and I must say was the tastiest week of food I've had in a long time - this cleanse is about eating FOOD and I felt great!
Please enjoy!
