    Showdown at Gun Hill
It was a very good read. The author kept you busy with the story itself which was quite exciting. He is a great author one I can count on for a good western book.

Ralph Cotton nails it, again. Ranger Sam has his work cut-out for him, babysitting an alcoholic sheriff and pursing bad-guys. With so-many bad guys roaming the badlands, it is difficult deciding who the chase and who can wait. Showdown at Gun Hill is book thirty-seven the Ranger Series! Keep em coming...

    Publisher's Summary:
How far would you go to get what you wanted? The author of Don't Try to Find Me returns with a taut, riveting novel of psychological suspense - a domestic drama full of secrets and twists - about a woman determined to have a child, her ambivalent husband, and a pregnant teenager with a secret agenda of her own.
"I know now that there was no other way things could have turned out. Tragedies are inevitable, just like the great love stories, like us."
Thirty-nine-year-old Adrienne is desperate to be a mother. And this time nothing is going to get in her way. Sure, her husband, Gabe, is ambivalent about fatherhood. But she knows that once he holds their baby, he'll come around. He's just feeling a little threatened, that's all. Because once upon a time, it was Gabe that Adrienne wanted more than anything; she was willing to do anything....
But that was half a lifetime ago. She's a different person now, and so is Gabe. There are lines she wouldn't cross, not without extreme provocation. And sure, she was bitten once before by another birth mother - clear to the bone - and for most people it's once bitten, twice shy. But Adrienne isn't exactly the retiring type. At nineteen Leah bears a remarkable resemblance to the young woman Adrienne once was. Which is why Adrienne knows the baby Leah is carrying is meant to be hers. But Leah's got ideas of her own: Her baby's going to get a life in California; why shouldn't she? All she wants is to live in Adrienne's house for a year after the baby's born and get a fresh start. It seems like a small price for Adrienne to pay to get their baby. And with Gabe suddenly onboard, what could possibly go wrong?

I really enjoyed this one. I have listened to a lot of books and am always happy when I find a good one. It's not a very suspenseful book. But it's intriguing and I didn't anticipate the ending.
    Enjoyable read

    Publisher's Summary:
From an exhilarating new voice, a stunning debut novel - which Jonathan Safran Foer calls as "lyrical as a poem, psychologically rich as a thriller".
In the beautiful, barren landscape of the Far North, under the ever-present midnight sun, Frances and Yasha are surprised to find refuge in each other. Their lives have been upended - Frances has fled heartbreak and claustrophobic Manhattan for an isolated artist colony; Yasha arrives from Brooklyn to fulfill his beloved father's last wish: to be buried "at the top of the world. They have come to learn how to be alone. But in Lofoten, an archipelago of six tiny islands in the Norwegian Sea, 95 miles north of the Arctic Circle, they form a bond that fortifies them against the turmoil of their distant homes, offering solace amidst great uncertainty.
With nimble and sure-footed prose, Dinerstein reveals that no matter how far we travel to claim our own territory, it is ultimately love that gives us our place in the world.
    Critic Reviews:
"Narrator Julie McKay strikes just the right tone--languid with an edge of sarcasm--to suit this offbeat coming-of-age romance between two New Yorkers in a Norwegian landscape filled with perpetual light." (AudioFile)

    A Must-Listen!
    Any additional comments?
It's been a long time since I encountered a book this good. The writing, the characters, and especially the setting make it seem as if you're listening to a particularly good fable or fairy tale that you've never encountered before. The switching between characters' voices can be confusing (I wish the narrator had paused just a little bit before each jump), but once you get used to that, you can get lost in this book. I was crying by the end. Give it a listen--you won't regret it.
    anticlimactic
hard to get into. and many of the details given about characters are completely irrelevant to the plot
    A Poet's Novel
Rebecca Dinerstein's The Sunlit Night is a treasure of spare prose, beautiful imagery and young adult sensibilities stripped down to a lovely essence.
    Don't waste your money
I didn't pay for this, but I desperately wished I hadn't wasted a credit. I barely got through 30 minutes, the writing style was so annoying and weird. The storyline is boring.

    Publisher's Summary:
Jane Knoll doesn't realize it yet, but life is about to take a daring turn. For the past decade, Jane's been able to recapture her sense of peace after years of being bullied. By day she edits marketing jargon, and by night she watches television reruns with her gay neighbor, Larry. She's comfortable. Then, after she meets her new coworker, Eva, television reruns are no longer an option. Too shy to get to know Eva in real life, Jane creates an online alter ego and starts to follow her on Twitter.
Face-to-face, Jane is nothing more than Eva's nondescript, clumsy coworker: a social catastrophe. But, behind the safety of her laptop screen, she becomes confident and empowered with purpose and talent. The two hit it off, and what forms is an undeniable creative union, one with the ability to positively change many lives.
There's just one major problem standing in the way, though. Can she fulfill her purpose and make a change in the world while living the rest of her life as an alter ego? Is she brave enough to reveal her true identity and risk squandering all she's gained by it?
This audiobook delves into the dramatic world of women in love, anti-bullying, sexuality, social psychology, and social anxiety.

    Horrible narration
I wanted to stop listening, but I persevered and finished it. The story was actually okay, maybe even good. Unfortunately, subpar readers make even good books...just not very good.
Incredible! There's a bit of Janey in all us!
Powerful story that reaches to the hidden depths of the heart. It does not matter how beautiful you are, how popular, or how wealthy; no one is immune from fear, doubt, and insecurities. This story is amazing how it exposes the reality of how brutal life is but also how empowering true compassion, friendship, and love can be. This positive force is what gives action to our courage, it was an absolute joy to me that Janey's courage brought her to her feet to face her fear. A truly must listen/read, it will change thoughts, feelings, and life for the better. If nothing else it will warm your heart.. "Wink"
awful listening experience lost the story
HORRIBLE TO LISTEN TO!! A perfect example of when the author destroys their own work by trying to do something they're not good at. No offence ms carr. remove this from audible and get someone who can do audio books well to rerecord.
the author really seems to be trying to read well but when you can hear every "s" she speaks it is very distracting. Between this and the mispronouncd words and lack of any kind of characterization. attempts at emotional emphasis that completrly miscommunicate the material it is simply not worth the auditory torture to try to engage what may be a much better story than this narrator is able to deliver.
the story is a little full of itself. too busy. too many descriptors and delays between progressing the story. but that may only be my impression from the truly awful reading of it.
    Painful Experience
First, the author should never have been so egocentric as to read this herself. Her voice is so off-putting I barely cared about the story she was trying to relay. ("Bud-done" is not how button is pronounced.)
The story is childish and implausible. A lesbian, bullied as a teenager, now cat-phishing a colleague - fumbling, and not in funny way.

I looked through the eyes of my killer just in time to see my own body die.
Now switching is easy. I can jump from body to body, have any life, be anyone. All it takes is a touch.

    Great story, amazing narration
Dynamic, interesting and inspiring. Make you think a lot about mind and body questions.
BUT the best thing is the narration. Just brilliant.
    Good book
I did however enjoy The first fifteen lives of Harry August more. The idea of this book is intriguing but the plot becomes a little thin.
    Confusing to Follow
    Any additional comments?
It was difficult to follow this book. There is a lot of character changes which the narrator preforms well, but there are also many jumps in time which confuses things.
For the first half of the book I was lost not understanding 'when' they were talking about. Maybe the time jumps would be conveyed better if you were reading text?
Story line tied together more at the end though there were some abrupt changes and jumps forward with little to no explanation of the lost time in-between.
    Very Jumpy!
I don't know what to make of this book - overall I am disappointed. Once you get past the initial concept that an entity can move from one person to another by touch then you pretty much have it. There is a narrative thread running through the book but because it is being driven by a person that continually changes their bodies, interacting with similar creatures, it gets really confusing.
The writing is crisp and well observed but there is far too much violence with the same scenario being replayed again and again. It is described from the first person which has the effect of making it more more graphic, which I began to find waring. It would have been more effective if we cared about any of the main characters but despite some "flashbacks" to try and build a back story they seem to have no redeeming qualities. Thus when the end comes and a sunset is walked into we can breathe a sigh of relief that it is over!
I bought this on the basis of her first novel the first fifteen lives of Harry August which was clever and engaging but this book seems like an intellectual exercise. The story could have been written in the first person with the same character all the way through like an extended episode of Mission Impossible. I don't know if this is unfair criticism It may be more effective if you read it instead of listening, as i said I am not sure what to think.
    Iain
    All Touch but not touching.
An interesting concept that could have been a better book, if only the editor had been more diligent in editing, there is too much repetition and not enough development of the plot, the entities speak of love like Hollywood stars, often but never feeling it, and that makes the reader uncommitted to characters.
The section of the genie and the retelling from the grand daughter are the best achieved story with in the tale it feels like something from The Arabian Nights: One Thousand and One Nights, truly magic and sensual, also bitter and telling of the real depth of the genie's love.
A good second book but not as accomplished as the first book The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August.

    Publisher's Summary:
From the best-selling author of Lottery comes a new novel about greed, survival, and what's really important in life.
At the bottom of the heap, there's nowhere to go but up.
Waitress Tammy Tyree knows this intimately. Her life is a continual struggle of managing an eccentric uncle, looking after a younger brother who's not quite right, and doing everything she can to keep her family together in the small town of Spring, Washington. But Tammy has a couple of things going for her no matter how dire things get. She's tenacious and has her own take on karma. She believes the more unfortunate things that happen to a person, the more that person is due for a windfall. Each and every misfortune is a further guarantee that a golden opportunity is just around the corner.
When Tammy receives a confidential e-mail about an inheritance that's hers to claim, she's certain her ship has come in. Just a few details need to be ironed out, like a small matter of some fees to pay, bank forms to fill out, and taxes to remit, but she knows each complication brings her closer to that golden goose of egg-laying renown.
What starts as a personal quest ends up embroiling Tammy and everyone she holds dear in a scheme that could be the financial downfall of them all or the rescue of a small town that's slowly but surely falling through the cracks.

A TERRIFIC Funny Story with Terrific Narration
    Narration - Michelle Babb - Kick A$$
If you've read many of my reviews, I don't really give a lot of audiobooks the "Kick A$$" narration rating, but I've had a couple back to back listens that were really stellar, with this being one of them. Michelle does such a great job of embodying the character of Tammy Tyree! I don't own a kindle copy of the book, so I couldn't tell you if her narration of what 'bug' says is accurate, but it was terrific and natural and flowed as if you were listening to the actual conversations between Tammy and her very special little brother Jar (aka bug). She really captured the personalities of these folks from this small town. Fabulous job!!!
As for the book! OMG! This was a terrifically absurd story (Truly, I believe, enhanced by the narration). Tammy Tyree receives one of those emails claiming that she's due a substantial inheritance from a long lost missionary relative, complete with the broken but wordy explanations of the importance of the sender, his title, his role in assisting her in retrieving her inheritance and all the steps she must go through (which of course become innumerable) in order to rightfully claim the money she's due.
The book pokes fun at the naivety of Tammy, her family and some other gullible town folk who wish to invest in helping her claim her inheritance as well as the email scam community itself. I'm not going to say that I was laughing out loud while listening to this book, but I was, I don't know, Joyful? Most certainly smiling the whole time I was listening. (Except during the big Jar incident near the end) And I found myself telling anyone who would listen about the terrific book I was listening to. And I didn't do it justice, because alas, I'm not a writer. Patricia Wood, however, is! A very terrific writer and she had me loving this little gem from start to finish.

An irresistible debut novel about the wisdom of the very young, the mischief of the very old, and the magic that happens when no one else is looking.
Millie Bird, seven years old and ever hopeful, always wears red gumboots to match her curly hair. Her struggling mother, grieving the death of Millie's father, leaves her in the big ladies' underwear department of a local store and never returns.
Agatha Pantha, 82, has not left her house - or spoken to another human being - since she was widowed seven years ago. She fills the silence by yelling at passersby, watching loud static on TV, and maintaining a strict daily schedule.
Karl the Touch Typist, 87, once used his fingers to type out love notes on his wife's skin. Now that she's gone, he types his words out into the air as he speaks. Karl's been committed to a nursing home, but in a moment of clarity and joy, he escapes. Now he's on the lam.
Brought together at a fateful moment, the three embark upon a road trip across Western Australia to find Millie's mother. Along the way, Karl wants to find out how to be a man again; Agatha just wants everything to go back to how it was.
Together they will discover that old age is not the same as death, that the young can be wise, and that letting yourself feel sad once in a while just might be the key to a happy life.

    Lovely Cute story !
This was a very well developed, well written story. The narration was a little irritating as millie sometimes but it was fine. This was cute, very sweet and still true to reality. I get how great it is but I just didn't get swept away by it, didn't connect with it the way others have. I would suggest this to anyone looking for a light listen with a happy ending
Cute story that deals with heavy themes
I loved the performance of this story, the different voices for each protagonist were spot on! The story itself was very funny and cute despite or maybe because of the heavy themes it portrays.
    Funniest sex scene ever
Love these characters! Quirky doesn't begin to describe them. A wonderfully funny and poignant story exploring the themes of loss and connection. Pitch perfect narration. Deeply satisfying.
make you life more than a dash
A good heat felt story that makes us realize the importance of making our life more important and memorable than just a dash
    Lovely story, beautifully narrated
Such a wonderful expression of life's journey, the emotions we feel and keep and the story of a lost child who sees the world I such a wonderful and at time hilarious way.

Disappointing. Font is sans serif and tiny. Looks like a self-publishing job as no real publisher would let this kind of poor printing out their door. Will be returning it.
