In this episode, I tell you why you want a word of the year, how to choose it, and how to use it.

I choose a new word each year, and I use it as a guide to help me make decisions.

Last year, I chose the word fun, and it was a good choice, but it wasn’t the best choice. I chose fun because I wanted 2023 to be the opposite of 2022, and fun was definitely missing from my 2022. 

At the beginning of the year, I was intentional about my word, and it helped me leave my comfort zone, and because I focused on it, I recognized fun opportunities I might have missed.

But as the year progressed, I became less intentional about it, and I started saying no to things because I didn’t want to spend the time or money doing them, or I didn’t want to have to change my clothes or put on makeup. I even passed up on an opportunity to meet Mark Walburg because I didn’t feel like going by myself to where he was promoting his tequila in the middle of the work day. 

Then, I describe the event that caused me to realize that I was ignoring my word and how this realization caused me to adopt two new words so that I was able to fully live into fun the last several weeks of the year.

I share my word for 2024, along with several examples of how I’ve been living into it so far, and I wrap up by giving you suggestions and tips for your word of the year.
