Copper is a heavy metal element which has very important functions in the cow’s body. These include building immunity, growth and reproduction.

Copper gets into the body mainly through the food the animals eat and the water they drink. Feeds from some areas have low copper content. Their intake results in what is called primary or absolute copper deficiency.

In some cases certain elements in the feed, if present in high concentrations, may interfere with availability of copper to the body.

Agroecology offers a paradigm shift from conventional agriculture that is obsessed with high yields and short-term profits at the expense of the environment and other social effects.

Urban poverty is a major obstacle to access and affordability of food. Most urban low-income areas are characterized by unemployment/underemployment, low irregular earnings, informal sector, overcrowding and poor sanitation. The residents of such areas spend much of their earnings on food and sometimes rely on street food with negative health implications. Urban planners, therefore, need to devise ways of improving affordability and accessibility of nutritious and healthy diets to the poor.
