As we began to see in the first half of this sermon, Jude’s warning to his listeners about “earnestly contending for the faith” was based on the fact that enemies had crept into the Kingdom of God. When we paused the message yesterday, we were examining their methods. Today, we conclude our examination of their methods, and move on to consider their origins and their motives. As we continue in the Book of Jude, we learn a little more about why Jude was so insistent that we “earnestly contend for the faith”: it was because of the enemies that had deceitfully slipped into the Kingdom of God. Jude tells us about their methods, their origins, and their motives. It is important when facing an enemy in battle that we understand the methods that the enemy uses. Today’s sermon is the first in an expositional series on the book of Jude that was preached recently at Zion Primitive Baptist Church. This book is small in terms of size, but it is huge in terms of doctrine! In today’s sermon, we learn that, while Jude by natural birth was the half brother of Jesus Christ, the focus of his letter was NOT on his earthly kinship to Christ but on his spiritual servitude to Him. As we will see, Jude had a burden to warn his brethren about false teachers who had crept into the church. As we began to see in the first half of this sermon, which we posted yesterday, Romans 8:28 means something much different than what the religious world thinks it means. Most people believe the phrase “all things” means “all things without exception;” however, as we were learning in the first half of this message, an honest contextual analysis proves that this is NOT the correct interpretation! Rather, this verse is referring to “all things under consideration,” which we will see today includes those eternal things that God has worked in our eternal salvation. In today’s sermon, we begin to look at a verse of Scripture that has been sorely misunderstood and misused throughout the religious world. In Romans 8:28, we read that “all things work together for good” for God’s children. The question naturally arises, “what things?” Does this mean “all things without exception”? Is God somehow taking the sin and wickedness of this life and using it to teach us a lesson or to work something out for our ultimate good? The answer, as we will see, is a resounding “No”! Rather than “all things without exception,” the “all things” of this verse refers to “all things under consideration,” which are the things God has worked in our eternal salvation. In the first half of this sermon in our series on the “one things” of the Bible , we learned about a man who had been born blind who had been healed by Jesus. We saw that, when questioned by the Pharisees, he declared emphatically that – while he didn’t know all the details – he had nonetheless been changed by Christ! This account is a physical occurrence that mirrors in many ways the spiritual experience of regeneration. While the newly-born again child of God initially may not know much about what has happened to him, he knows that he has been changed! Today we are posting the first half of the fourth sermon in our series on the phrase “one thing” in the Bible. In John 9, a man who was blind from birth was healed by Jesus as He passed by. When harshly questioned by the Pharisees about the encounter he had with Christ, the formerly blind man declared, “Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.” This man didn’t know a lot, but he knew he had been changed by Jesus! This is the experience of every child of God from a spiritual standpoint, when he or she is born again. Join us today as we begin looking at this firm declaration by this man who had been changed.
