In this week’s episode, I want to address the ways that single moms may be unknowingly creating men in the world that they wouldn’t want to date or marry. While I strongly believe that a feminine woman cannot develop healthy masculinity in their sons, I do believe that a mom can show her son what feminine women like and how to please them.
When your son turns 11 or 12 years old, it’s time for you to scale back the nurturing, coddling, and enabling and start to have EXPECTATIONS of your son to behave like a young gentleman. You should start to instill responsibility in him for himself first, and for others second. This includes learning how to cook, clean up after himself, wash his own clothes, clean his room, and do other male-oriented chores around the house.
It’s also a good idea to teach him how to be chivalrous and a protector. He can open your door when you are walking into a building, and he can order for you in a restaurant or pull out your chair. Remember, what your son needs most during this time is your PRAISE and APPRECIATION for doing these things. That is the currency of healthy masculine men.
Lastly, make every effort to find him a few healthy masculine role models; men in the community that can mentor him. He will need to see other men and how they live to get a sense of what healthy masculinity is.
