In this week’s episode, I wanted to address a question that I received from Instagram. A follower messaged me about how lonely she is in her relationship and after getting more information from her, I realized that her expectations for a healthy relationship are unrealistic. I then explained to her the importance of having her OWN rich, full life. Ladies, if you are going to have a healthy relationship or marriage, you must understand that all the needs you have will NOT be met by your partner.

According to Willard Harley’s book “His Needs, Her Needs”, there are ten core emotional needs that we all have. There is only ONE need that can only be met by your partner and that is Sexual Fulfillment. The other nine needs can be legitimately met by others. Esther Perel has also addressed this in her book “Mating In Captivity: Reconciling the Erotic and The Domestic”. She noted that this phenomenon is relatively new to modern-day relationships. The expectation that our partners will be “everything” to us; best friend, lover, business partner, co-parents, etc. is creating a weight that many cannot bear.

In this week’s episode, I wanted to address the importance of choosing a man with a similar lifestyle as you. Many women are determining this once it is too late and they are breaking their own hearts! The reason why you have your three lists is so you can very quickly eliminate men who have qualities from the “Don’t Want” list. This includes lifestyle choices.

Things like whether he smokes, uses drugs, or drinks too much or he has kids and you don’t. Or if he has kids and doesn’t want more. He may have a very demanding job that requires odd hours or he hates dogs and you love them. All of these things must be discussed BEFORE you have fallen in love and before you have had sex with him. If you wait until AFTER that, it will be very hard to properly vet and qualify him without rationalizing or making excuses for him.

Dating is the process of finding a suitable partner to be in a healthy relationship with. Whether you are dating or wishing to be courted for marriage; you need to continue to focus on what YOU want and need within the relationship to be happy and show up as your best self. Too many times I see women settling for less than what they need in order to be with a specific man, and once the “butterflies” wear off, they find themselves feeling frustrated. In this week’s episode, I am joined by Mark Brooks of RealMe. Mark has been working in the online dating world since 2005 and has worked with 110 dating companies and service providers throughout his career.
