When it comes to English learning, many Hong Kong learners are comfortable with Received Pronunciation (RP) — a neutral accent used traditionally by BBC broadcasters as well as some members of the royal family.

Although learners find it easy to understand the RP accent, they are scared of communicating with people who have a non-standard accent such as those from Liverpool, Birmingham, and Yorkshire.
