10K Dollar Day

INTRO: (00:00) Improv skills make for an entertaining podcast, for sure. Alison and Lulu are together in Florida, so they went to Birch & Vine, which Alison had visited in Episode 9.

OBSESSIONS: (5:20) Alison is obsessed with Angry Orchard Rosé Hard Cider, its just so good. Lulu is obsessed with Emerald Jalapeño Cashews, which she shared with Alison without describing the jalapeño part first. Oops. 

WISHLIST: (7:29) Alison is wishing for new luggage. It’d be handy for these 10k Dollar Day trips, but also for real life. Lulu wants to figure out a way to get to this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

ALISON’S 10K DAY - BOLIVIA: (11:51) Alison has a hard time spending money on her trip. She stays at the Hotel Camino Real. It’s elegant, but not quite the 5-star experience she’s “used” to. Alison takes a quick flight to Uyuni, where she enjoys a private tour of the Salt Flats including a magical sunset, with complementary wine! Alison has lunch at Sal Negra before heading back to Santa Cruz. She enjoys a chocolate therapeutic massage at Zen Aqua Spa. Touted as the best restaurant in Bolivia, dinner at Gustu Restaurant was incredible. With nothing else to do, Alison splurges on a bottle of wine, the 2015 Cheval Blanc Bordeaux Blend. It costs over $7,000. 

LULU’S 10K DAY - KOHLER, WI: (30:25) A stay at The American Club, where the Kohler company housed immigrant workers in an effort to make them feel more at home. Lulu heads out for the day in a rented Rolls Royce. Lulu  charters a sport fishing boat. Next she visits the Kohler Design Center, then takes a tour of Bookworm Gardens. She helps cook the fish she caught earlier thanks to a cooking class at Relish Kitchen Store. Next is a Waterfall Massage at the hotel spa. Dinner at Wisconsin Club, where she takes two shots of Macallan 25 year to go, to sip while in her incredible Kohler bathtub, of course. L-u-x-u-r-y.

Lulu swears Alison's 10K location is a fairytale and we can't stop saying "whack-a-mole"!

INTRO: (00:00) Dreaming up luxury vacations while looking for a missing paycheck is fun. Actually fun is getting boxed wine in the mail. Thank you for the Rosé, Bright Cellars. 

OBSESSIONS: (6:50) Sleeping is the best. Always obsessed with that. Also loving Suzy, our 10k Bae, who went to a place Lulu talked about in Episode 26.

WISHLIST: (10:20) Alison wants some curly-hair products from LUS Products. Back to sleeping, Lulu wants these Bose sleep buds, hopeful they can cure all her sleeping woes.

LULU’S 10K DAY - SAN FRANCISCO, CA: (17:25) Look at this "Stunning Sky-High Getaway" on Airbnb. Lulu enjoys black car service. You can guess what she got at Sweet Maple, the spot featured on United States of Bacon. Lulu bought breads at The Mill, then visited the House of Air adrenaline park. Lulu rocks this dress from Net-A-Porter to drinks at The Tonga Room. Next is a tour of Alcatraz, followed by a delectable dinner at Foreign Cinema. Lulu throws an epic pajama party with all the makings of a fun night including a whack-a-mole machine.

ALISON’S 10K DAY - SNOWDONIA, WALES: (38:30) Alison wants to shop Welsh brand Tempest Designs, so unknowingly signs up to be a retailer in her search for the perfect vacationwear. She found this picturesque cottage on Airbnb. First a mountain biking adventure, then to the spa for several luxury treatments. A champagne lunch at Park House restaurant, then a stop at the "ugly house". Alison takes the Snowdonia Rail with a photographer and a Mobile Makeup Artist, for a photoshoot at the summit. Dinner at Tyddyn Llan and live music at Y Stablau Bar ends her day.

Glamping and blind dinners get the ladies excited this week... but blenders do it too, so...

INTRO: (00:00) Alison and Lulu chat about the summer heat, summer plans, summer movies, and The Met. 

OBSESSIONS: (6:30) Alison is working on our website, and is obsessed with making it great - but IT’S NOT FINISHED SO DON'T GO TO IT YET! Lulu is obsessed with salt licorice, which is black licorice that’s salty…and sweet? Weird but addicting.

WISHLIST: (9:48) Alison wants a really nice blender…she can’t remember which one it is, but anything would be better than her current setup. Lulu is moving and wishes for packing to be easy…don’t we all! 

ALISON’S 10K DAY - STONE MOUNTAIN, GA: (13:20) Heading to Stone Mountain Park, Alison goes glamping! She starts by buying this yurt-style tent, and luxurious bedding to go in it. This list of glamping essentials was a great source of inspiration for what to bring. She definitely had to get this portable record player for her setup. A carriage ride, park activities, and a private lesson at Atlanta’s Hot Glass, then a late lunch at Kimball House, before she gets her vinyl fix at Records Galore. Dinner on-site with The Portable Chef. Ending the day with a in-home (in-tent?) massage from The Miracle of Massage gets her not even close to 10k, but she can use her glamping tent again, so that’s a win!

LULU’S 10K DAY - SINGAPORE: (35:34) Check out the world’s largest rooftop infinity pool at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel. Black Car Service takes Lulu to Louis Vuitton Maison where she makes a “sensible” purchase. Lunch is at sensory deprivation experience Nox - Dine In The Dark. She visits The Analog Vault where she buys this bluetooth turntable, buys tea at Fort Sanctuary and goes on a Night Safari! Lulu’s suite at Resorts World shares a wall with the aquarium. Dinner at Joel Robuchon, followed by a visit to Tippling Club where you order your cocktails by tasting a teaser gummy bear. Seriously.

Glamping and blind dinners get the ladies excited this week... but blenders do it too, so...

Sometimes we disagree on what a phrase means, but we always agree on how to spend 10k!

INTRO: (00:00) Travel is in the air, but for real. We know we're all about the laughs, but pondering phrasing and paradigm shifts have us talking seriously, just this once, guys, probably.

OBSESSIONS: (5:48) Alison found another part of Amazon Prime to be obsessed with - free yoga! Lulu doesn't care for scary movies, but this scaredy-cat is obsessed with A Quiet Place.

WISHLIST: (12:18) Alison is loving the freedom bluetooth headphones bring - no cords! - so she'll take these powerbeats3's, please. Lulu needs a bag for getting around New York, from auditions to production meetings, dinner to the gym. If you know of something, help her out and post a link on the Facebook Page. 

LULU’S 10K DAY - LONDON, ENGLAND: (18:37) Traditional London Hotel Claridge’s has a suite with a bluetooth speaker, so Lulu is sold. Multiple umbrellas from James Smith & Sons have her prepared for the London weather. The Belmond British Pullman is not your typical train ride. It takes Lulu - and 10k Bae Suzy - to Longleat Safari Park where they do the VIP Big Cat Feeding Experience. Lulu sends her friend James to buy her the Ted Baker Sophiaz Bag and asks him to fill it with British treats. Saw Aladdin, where Lulu’s friend plays the genie! Cocktails at Sky Pod Bar, then lots of bread at Duck & Waffle prepares us for a tasting experience at London Gin Club.

ALISON’S 10K DAY: VANCOUVER ISLAND, BRITISH COLUMBIA (38:19) Alison books a flight for Lulu to come join her. They stay at  Morningside Ocean Estate, a Frank Lloyd Wright inspired house. Breakfast at the adorable The Birds & The Beets before they do the Victoria Whale and Wildlife Cruise. Next is a scenic tour of Hot Springs Cove. A session with a local personal shopper gets the gals ready for a 6 course meal at The Infused Dining Series by the Herbal Chef.

Islands are all the rage this week... so are fainting ghosts, I mean goats.

INTRO: (00:00) The girls are together again, where math skills take a hit and more Rosé leads to memory loss of drinking Rosé. By the way, click on any of these links to see what we are talking about, where we are going, what we are buying - you too can live a 10k life…an imaginary one that is.

OBSESSIONS: (5:48) Who isn’t obsessed with binge-watching TV right now? Alison loves a good survival story, so she is watching The Handmaid’s Tale. Conversations in circles and British accents have Lulu into W1A.

WISHLIST: (12:38) Alison is dreaming of having wall art.. Lulu wants time travel, or a better iPad case, whichever comes to her first.

ALISON’S 10K DAY - NEW SHOREHAM, RI: (16:58) Browsing Airbnb led Alison to discover this unique gem. A trip to Block Island Farmers’ Market for some goods to make breakfast while enjoying the breathtaking views. An incredibly detailed bike tour helps her take in the island's attractions. These attractions and hearing the story of local benefactor Fred Benson make Alison’s trip enjoyable but she’s far from spending 10k. A visit to the Koru Eco Spa is rejuvenating after all of that biking. Dinner at Spain of Narragansett, followed by dessert at Chapel Sweets where proclaiming “I LOVE CHOCOLATE!” gets you a discount. A evening visit to a winery and a night cruise on a luxury yacht still couldn’t get her to 10k, but man what a great trip! 

LULU’S 10K DAY - SKOPELOS, GREECE: (41:50) Lulu goes all out by staying at the  Skopelos Village Hotel, where Meryl Streep stayed while filming Mamma Mia! Lulu shops for a new wardrobe from Net-A-Porter, declaring “I WILL ONLY BRING WHITE THINGS!” and she totally looks the part of the modern Greek goddess. To complete her jet-set vibe, she hires a car and driver, a chef, and rented out a sailboat to explore the coast. The sea urchin ravioli at Agnanti Restaurant is how Lulu capped off her 10k day.
