In this episode of The Real Build, I sat down with Royal Mortier, owner of PLIRIS. Royal and I talked about the importance of engineering in the build process. We also discussed the architectural process and how Royal is changing how architecture is done and making it more efficient. He also has made it way more cost-effective for clients.

Royal Mortier is a Structural Engineer, Developer, and the President/Founder of PLIRIS (plí-wris)(Greek for “Complete”).

PLIRIS provides services to volume and custom home builders currently across six (6) states and will be adding fourteen (14) more states in the coming months. PLIRIS also works with house plan websites to provide “Complete,” permittable plans to individual clients at a national level, and has their own plan website, plirisplans.com, to promote smaller home designers. PLIRIS issues plans for over

100 homes a month.

Royal is a home builder turned engineer, starting in the construction trades at 15 before leaving the trades in his mid-20’s to pursue college. A graduate of Oregon State University, he worked for the Corp of Engineers and a couple large construction companies before joining Mortier Engineering in 2014.

During his time at Mortier Engineering, Royal found his passion for homes and saw home builders and customers of house plan companies were greatly underserved by the engineering industry.

He came up with the idea of PLIRIS to focus on these clients and provide life balance to engineers.
