During a recent trip to Portland, OR, Bob and Ben caught up with Dr. Ethan Seltzer to talk about Portland’s rise from a relatively obscure western town to a thriving urban center in the 21st Century. As Dr. Seltzer shows, Portland’s success today can be traced back to the 1960s/70s, when the city’s leaders laid out a vision for Portland that prioritized a high quality of life for its residents. Dr. Seltzer takes us through this history, explaining the reasons for Portland’s unique path, and outlining the challenges that Portland’s leaders face in managing the city’s growth.
Dr. Seltzer is Professor in the Nohad A. Toulan School of Urban Studies and Planning at Portland State University. He has published extensively on development of Portland and the surrounding region.
