Housing in Australia is expensive.

We don’t think any Australian with fewer than eight figures in their bank account would find this statement controversial. Simply compare the average income with the average home rental or purchase prices, and you can see the disparity.

We’ve talked about the housing crisis before on this podcast. But is Australia ACTUALLY in the grip of a housing crisis, or is the problem actually simpler than that?

At a glance, it might seem as if we’re splitting hairs. “Who CARES what we call it?” you might say. “Housing is too expensive; does it really matter whether we use the words ‘housing crisis’ to describe the problem?”

While it might feel nitpick-y, the definition we use can determine the solutions we should (and shouldn’t) pursue.
