It's very sad to see what's going on over there, but instead of sitting in sadness, this practice invites us to  practice compassion. 

Compassion is the recognition of suffering  and the desire to see that suffering alleviated.  

With this practice, we  practice cultivating compassion and sending it to those affected by the LA fires

This practice is also called the loving kindness practice.
