In this episode we reflect on some of the WHY statements from students in the recent 30 Day Te Reo Māori Bootcamp course.
In general I found there to be two common themes across most responses.
1. To fill an internal gap - there is this idea that there is something missing within a persons identity that will be filled by learning te reo Māori.
2. An external obligation - the idea that you are obliged to learn to either pay homage to an elder that has provided some form of support in life, or to learn for the sake of guiding someone from the younger generation (a child perhaps).
