Redefining Midlife with Jo Clark

24. Food is Medicine with Sarah McLachlan

Listen Later

Food is an innate physiological need and what we eat matters, especially in our midlife years and beyond. There is a plethora of information internet wise regarding this topic; including what we should eat, how often, quantities, quality, timing of meals and more. Yet, the importance of food and its nutritional benefits often gets lost in the sheer volume of information and advice we are given. Our guest today is Sarah McLachlan. She is not your average naturopath – she drinks coffee, hates calorie counting with a passion, and is all too familiar with the experience of mum burnout. After she got frustrated with feeling sweaty, anxious, irritated, and overweight during the lockdowns in 2020, she decided to regain control of her health. Listen to Jo and Sarah expand on their stories further as they chat about:

  • Creating opportunities to look up and see what's in front of us, what is there and what we want to do from there. Going from little dreams and ambitions, struggling to get up and get going to finding passion, purpose and loving it all alongside.
  • When the latest fad doesn’t actually work for us. The idea that we can just stop drinking or consuming sugar and all will be fine and we can get back into our clothes again.
  • Eating foods that are optimal for us in this phase of life and how it can smooth out the fluctuation of progesterone, oestrogen and reduce heavy periods.
  • Cortisol and insulin as master hormones that set the tone for everything else alongside the food we eat and how we feel about our health.
  • Sarah now supports other women in their 40s as they navigate through the perils of perimenopause with her program, The Chaos To Calm Method. To find out more please visit
