Michelle was sixteen when she started dating the man who would later become her stalker. At that age, she didn't yet recognize the warning signs—his criminal record, his extreme beliefs, the way control already threaded through their relationship. After one argument, he told Michelle he was going back to jail "because of her." That same night, he violently carjacked a man. He was arrested and sentenced to eight years in prison. It should have ended there. Instead, it became a countdown. From behind bars, he wrote her letters, promising he would find her when he got out. For years, Michelle measured her life in time remaining—until the day the countdown finally reached zero.
