Welcome back to the daily gratitude minute. This is Scott Colby. And had a question for you. Do you feel like there is a lack of appreciation in your workplace? You know, research shows that 79% of employees quit their job because they don't feel appreciated at work. And even if a company does have an employee recognition program, most are doing it wrong.
You see, during an employee recognition program, a company recognizes an employee for a job. Well done. But as humans, we'd rather be appreciated for our heart. We'd rather be appreciated for who we are as a person. We don't want recognition to be tied to our performance all the time. The other things that most companies don't understand is that each individual employee likes to be appreciated in a specific way.
So a company-wide employee recognition program where you might get a thank you and a certificate or a bonus for a job. Well done. Won't work very well. Now for some employees that might be fine for others that might not be meaningful to them. It's up to the leaders to find out how each individual team member likes to be appreciated.
And then appreciate each team member in their preferred way consistently. I learned this in the book, the five languages of appreciation in the workplace. And I've been fortunate enough to interview one of the coauthors Dr. Paul White, about this very topic. When you appreciate each team member in their preferred appreciation language on a consistent basis, you'll have employees that perform their best and stick around for the longterm.
Resulting in cost savings for the organization. I'm scott colby was say it with gratitude and this has been the daily gratitude minute cheers
