368 - Low Cost (Yet Effective) Marketing Ideas For Small Business With Jasky Singh From K2AV

Listen Later

Effective marketing doesn’t have to be expensive. In fact, some of the best marketing ideas I’ve seen to help small businesses grow, have been incredibly cheap. Sometimes all they cost is a little effort on behalf of the owner.
Jasky Singh of K2 Audio Visual in Western Australia (a business that installs state-of-the-art audio visual technology into homes and offices), has embraced low cost marketing in a big way … and it’s working.
Here’s an email he sent me a few weeks ago:
Hey Timbo …
I'm one of those listeners that have been with you since the early days. I’m a big fan of your show.
I’d love to be a guest on one of your shows if that's of value to you. As I'm someone who directly applied tips and tricks from your episodes to take our business (K2AV) from a $500 investment to $15M in sales in <5 years.
Just thought I'd put it out there. No stress if it isn't something that works for you mate.
Keep up the great work :)
So I asked Jasky to send me a list of the ideas he’s specifically implemented. He did and it’s a ripper. And that’s what we’re going to work our way through in today’s episode of your favourite marketing podcast. BTW, you’ll find Jasky’s complete list of low cost marketing ideas further down this page.

But the marketing gold doesn’t stop there, in this episode you’ll also discover:
How to increase your business’s social media engagement
How to make affordable marketing videos fast
And we revisit a past episode where I chatted with a very old school marketer

Here’s what caught my attention from chatting with Jasky Singh of K2AV:
Find a way to enjoy your marketing. I’m probably preaching to the converted here, however, if you are finding marketing a struggle, then simply choose one aspect of it that you actually don’t mind and focus on it. That might be writing some blog posts, answering some FAQs, scheduling time to network or have lunch with some clients … whatever it is, just do it.
Curating the best ideas from his newsletter and turning it into a hard copy book. I’m doing this at the moment for my What Have You Got To Lose segment … I figure I’m already writing these ideas up as blog posts each week, and recording them as a segment in my show, so why not repurpose this existing content into a book?
Make as manyphone calls to prospects and clients a day as you can. In fact, can I set you a challenge? Starting tomorrow, I want you to call 10 prospects or existing clients per day for 10 days - then I want you to email me with the results - good, bad or indifferent. Go!
Here’s the complete list of Jasky’s business beliefs and marketing strategies that are helping him grow a business he loves:
Business Beliefs:
Be on the attack always. We’ve consistently fostered the mindset to search and keep looking for work/new clients instead of having an inbound strategy do the job for us. This has been the most important.
Bring value up-front, have enough in the value bank before going in for the ask. Early on, not applying this approach tarnished our reputation with a few clients and had we applied this approach it would have lead to much greater outcomes.
Niche is always better than broad, the more specific, the more pinpointed you can be when it comes to an audience, strategy, a pain point – the better the results.
Be the best. This is the greatest marketing on its own.
Low Cost Marketing Ideas For Small Business:
A weekly newsletter providing tips, tricks, and thought provoking ideas to educators – with 2,000+ subscribers, this has opened many doors without ever asking for the sale.
Compiling the best of the above newsletter and turning that into a physical book which we distributed to get into the door of clients – screenshot attached.
Developing win-win relationships with suppliers, as we rarely ever do “sales” or “discounts” as that doesn’t work with our brand. We use our suppliers and negotiate deals through them that provide a win win scenario for them and our potential client, and we get to sit in between as the exclusive provider for a deal. Our latest campaign “Smart Board Buy Back” was an example of this which lead to $50,000 worth of additional sales.
Before any presentation or pitch, we take a potential client for a visit to the work done for an existing client – the greatest sales pitch is to have an existing client in the same industry do the selling on your behalf.
Better headlines for emails, better copywriting for marketing  campaigns and online ads. Using the AIDA (Attention, Interest, Desire, Action) and WIIFT (What’s in it for them) strategies.
Currently – Facebook video with niche targeting has been quite powerful to generate leads.
